Anyone want to start a pool on how long he will remain with TRS?
I'm not trying to be an ass, but come on. Considering what has happened with the other shows, things are going to happen. I think Dan is awesome for the movie "bits", but he doesn't match up to to Jeff or Alex in any way for the other segments. Most of the time its like watching a wet sock, hell, he still can't get the advertiser scripts right without fumbling.
I'm sure it was kinda "okay" at first, maybe even "cute" that he couldn't do it, but this last episode just pointed it out. Sorry. Sure, he can recite directors and actors names, but he isn't any fun to watch. His movie picks are wayyy of base lately, and I'd rather see some PoS movie than hear his ramblings.

I think the guys balance out well, each bringing his own flava to the table. Dan has pointed me to some awesome flicks and 90% of the time if Dan likes it I like it so I tend to side with him on reviews. Does anyone really care if he messes up the sponsor parts. You get the jist of it. I'm actually really surprised this thread even exist. I thought Alex was the one that brought less to the table as far as having his own opinion on everything. Usually he's all " i agree" or " yeah its like you said", but like I said you really can't take one person away from TRS without killing it.

That and he was so nice in person and what not.

What are you talking about Dan has loads to bring to the table. His Movie reviews are usually the most fleshed out. He also usually plays the video game that is to be reviewed more than Alex and as much as Jeff so that he has a proper opinion of what makes it good/bad. Dan is also a bit younger than the other two so some of the audience may relate better to him when it comes to what movies/games were coming out when they were growing up.
Also, im sure im not the only one that enjoys watching Dan do his sponsor, it's funny - picking on him for having a bad memory isn't a fair.

WTF? Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but don't expect people not to shoot you down when you come out and make ridiculous statements about a member of a show on their own forum.
a) I'm pretty sure that while Dan takes the lead on the movie section, that everyone gets a say in what movie they see.
b) Dan contributes as much as any of the other hosts in the other sections. He always gives games a good run before talking about them. As games strive to become more "cinematic", Dan always brings a different perspective to games discussion.
c) Each of the hosts have their strengths. His "interesting" take on reading sponsor ads always helps bring some levity to what could easily be a very dry part of the show.
Yeah, I know, this is the kind of thing flamebait posts are designed for but really?....
TRS IS Steve, Jeff, Dan and Alex. Without them it wouldn't be TRS. In some parrellell universe there's a show with Steve, Jeff, Alex and some other dude but it sure as hell ain't TRS.

Dan has brought us some great LOL moments. He may fumble, but we wouldn't have such classics as Jack-Off or The Blacks. Just some great TRS moments that made me laugh so hard I nearly cried in places that looked really strange mainly in public.

Oh Waxxpaper... you're an idiot.
What happened to the other "shows?" You're talking about geekdrome, where we really never knew what happened. And that's one show. Notice the lack of an s in the end.
Moreover, even if it was true that Dan weren't any good outside of the movie section, like you suggest. The movie section takes up almost half of the show a lot of the time.
I think Dans great, in movies and the other categories. I actually think his strength is in the gaming section, since his view often differs from Alex's and Jeff's.

Yeah, you are.
I agree that the OP knows enough about the show to just say this to get us riled up...but I offer this in response...what if Dan offers MORE to the show than the other guys???
Hear me out...the show is about movies, TV, games, comics etc. All the guys have experience watching/reading/enjoying them. Yet, none have written a comic. And none have created a video game. Yet Dan has directed both TV commercials and a movie and has worked on many other movies.
Sure, Jeff and Alex have acted in TV shows, but so has Kelly Ripa. :)

This is dumb...
I mean this is recockulas. The other shows on Rev3 were shut down because their viewing numbers didn't justify their cost, TRS is wildly popular (as it should be). Not because Dan is deficit. I love me some awkward Danism, its a highlight not a low point in the show.
Whats next? A thread about how Steve gets like zero face time. How he's barely mic'ed and half the time all he does do is throw pictures up on the screen?

Like you could read a sponsor right, I know I couldn't.
The one point someone brought up that I find has the biggest impact is the fact that he is slightly younger, and alex and jeff have moments sometimes that he can't get in on. It's not Dan's fault, and it doesn't take away from the show.

Congratulations on bringing this child up to be such a fine participant in society and provider of meaningful entertainment to such a substantial audience. Dan not only is the star of the Movies segment, which is arguably the heart of the show, he also has good views on the videogames they play. I'd also say that his different taste on comics keeps the Comics segment from just being about superheroes. There's so many comics I never would have heard of if it wasn't for Dan! :D

the odd thing is that Dan has being been the center of some of the funniest moments of trs (i.e. Blacks). It's a team, even when dan says something like Pianist and the guys mistake him for penis, it's just a way a team works. Look at diggnation, kevin isn't all that entertaining but alex plays off of him and it works.

12-04-2008, 11:50 PM
I agree with everything everyone else has said. Dan has been responsible for some of the funniest moments on the show (like "So you're about to be raped, you just jack off.")
So what Dan screws up every once in awhile while doing sponsors... its what makes it entertaining. I don't think I would watch TRS if they all just said what they were supposed to, like they were reading off a teleprompter.
If thats the kind show you are looking for, I suggest watching like...Entertainment Tonight or something.

The real problem is - and this is to you Dan and Alex and Jeff - are that you're never on these forums which I don't get. It's why I stopped posting.
Although the active users keep this forum alive, I think it's important for the TRS crew to be active as well. That also goes for the TRS website which has trailers from the beginning of the year, while having new news from RSS feeds from other sites.

I agree with Dan the least out of the three but still love him on the show. How boring would the show be if they all agreed on everything all of the time? As far as him messing up on the ads, I'm sure the sponsors like it. Which is more memorable to you, Jeff reading through an ad copy in a way you constantly hear ads many times a day, or Dan struggling through a Netflix explanation? In the end, he gets all the important info out there, and he is the only one that ends up being entertaining during the sponsors.

Yeesh people. Try not to act like such fanboys.
Anyhoo, the more I watch TRS the more my opinions of the hosts change. When I started watching, I was coming from Diggnation and I thought Alex was the focal point of the show for me, and I got really frustrated when Dan would fumble to express his thoughts, and Jeff was just kinda there.
It's been over a year now, and now I think Jeff is an amazing personality, Dan has really grown on me, and if anything, my liking of Alex has taken a dive with the way he just can't seem to give a shit about anything in the video game segment.

When cutbacks are made it is to a whole show. The fact is that Dan has been on with the guys since the beginning. People are comfortable with the trio. I can't stand his verbal fumbling and I think he needs to take a deep breath, slow down and talk like a mature intelligent adult instead of like a kid who just saw the trailer for SW at age 7. That said if the show had a bunch of guys who always agreed with each other it would be a boring show. You need a well rounded ground to have a balanced viewpoint.
I think Dan should join the Toaster club so he can develop better public speaking skills and he will be just fine.

Dan is an interesting character. It's a complicated story about how the guys first came together to do TRS that means Dan will not be leaving the show, ever. The best thing about the show is how out of 3 people, there will almost always be 1 person that disagrees with at least one other person, which makes the show interesting. If there was just Alex and Jeff talking they would always either agree or disagree, which would not accomplish anything towards constructive conversation. Dan is the wildcard that makes the show. He is the free radical that keeps the show interesting.

That's my 2 cents.Dan and Jeff post more than almost any other hosts on this network. Alex isn't around (posting, at least) much, but I don't blame him. I'd imagine he's substantially busier than Dan and Jeff since he has three shows on the go. These are not guys that don't care about their fanbase. All around friendly dudes who, at this point, could probably keep this show going without ever stopping by the forums or stopping to talk to people they meet elsewhere. Still, they do it.
If you'd like them to be on hours a day, you're just asking too much. Otherwise I just think you're wrong.
You also have to keep in mind the things they can't talk about here. Have a game they''re reviewing in upcoming weeks? Not a good idea to drop by a thread and discuss their feelings on it.

When I signed up earlier this year in the summer and was pretty active while finishing up my thesis, I never saw posts from you guys personally. And I'm not making that up or being mean, I just never saw posts in the conversations so I drifted away from the forums.
That's a relief to hear, Jeff, and I like that you're always watching the forums. But to me, there's a difference in someone telling me they're watching and someone actively participating. Again, not being mean that's just how I see it among forum communities everywhere.

Alex pops in occasionally, and while I wouldn't exactly say that Jeff and Dan were particularly active in the forums, they definitely contribute ... as does Steve.
Having said that, Jeff has 3x the post of Veronica (a notable and visible contributor in the Tekzilla forum), and both Jeff and Dan have a post count that would have them labeled as a Senior Members if they didn't have a host label.

If anything his flubs are funny and charming, and a reason to watch the sponsors rather than skip past them.
I also enjoy that he tends to speak his mind more, Jeff and Alex seem to be wanting to wrap things up too quickly as of late. The show has become more professional, which I don't like as I enjoy the unfiltered, unrushed natural dialogue, and of course the off topic stuff as well.

I also don't think Revision3 has much say in the matter beyond whether or not they are willing to carry the show. As long as it remains independently produced and the advertisers are still there Dan will still be around me thinks, that is if he wants to still be around.

First off, I really enjoy TRS and the community here enough to keep watching the show and reading the forum. I think all three hosts contribute interesting perspectives to the show, but the fist jabs just drive me crazy. It always seems like one person is trying to finish their thought while the other two are ready to move on, or one host extends his hand while the other two are still chatting and then awkwardly pulls it back. This awkwardness/bad timing always makes me cringe a little.
