Simple question: What music do you listen to when you code?

I listen to Keane when doing GUI or CSS, In Flames or similar rough music when doing my raw py-work, and Coldplay + Trance when doing C#/Obj-C things.

Has to be acoustic or ambient (Tangerine Dream), or silence. Can't code to anything else.

If i haven't slept in a while and im working on a project nothing beats trance for me, if its good i cant fall asleep. some radio stations that play it are ah.fm or just search shoutcast.

What kind of trance do you listen to?
Armin van buuren & Paul van dyk (giggidy) or something "harder" such as angerfist?

I'll listen to pretty much anything while coding, but I usually prefer something without too much speech, or where the actual lyrics are secondary to the instrument of voice. "Enya" and "Sigur Rós" are good examples.

The reason for this, I suppose, is because I don't want to concentrate on the music when I'm coding. I'm usually looking up the lyrics for everything I listen to, because I sort of have to know everything that's sung in a song. With singing that's not as reminiscent of the way people usually talk (i.e. Enya's vocals laid out over 8 tracks or whatever) I care less about what's said in the song.

Listening to "Enya" or "Sigur Rós" brings another good thing for me, personally. Both keep me calm and collected. Usually when I encounter a problem while listening to one of them I can just keep cool when I get frustrated.

I did have a phase in which I pretty much only listened to "Misfits" when coding, though, because it helped me stay sharp for late night coding.

I think it's a given to alot of coders that when you listen to music while programming that you can't always have lyrics, because then you start to listen to the lyrics instead of focusing on the coding.

Having said that - I can't stand techno. I tried, and I can't. About the closest thing I've managed to stand is the soundtrack to the movie Pi; but that's about it.

As such, I find myself listening to breakbeats, or some sort of jazz.

For example, I'm listening to "Greyboy Allstars - Unwind Your Mind"

I like stuff that's kinda chilled out...like Thievery Corporation, Mouse on Mars, Nightmares on Wax...but I also like listening to Ska and Dub Reggae when I code.
