Hey, I'm wondering which screen recording program you guys use to record the YouTUBE videos when you show portions of it on Diggnation. I'm trying to record some streaming video from some other unknown site and all the ones I've tried only records black. Also tried going through the source code to try to find some file to download or some URL I could use to dump the stream with VLC or something, but no luck. Thanks.

I don't know if you are a Mac user, but iShowU for Mac OS X works well and it's cheap!

Highly recommended.

You can install the Video Downloader plug in for firefox and download the clip and the convert it with what ever you need to get into your video. At least thats the way I would do it...

In the episodes, you can actually see the Youtube page and not just the video. ;)

i use snag itSnag It is Camtasia's little brother. Snag It allows you to take screen shots, Camtasia allows you to record screen actions. See them both at http://www.techsmith.com/.
How about Prnt Scrn....Snag It is basically a fancy Prnt Scrn (or Alt+PrtSc) app ... Camtasia would allow you to see the YouTube playing, and not just the screen as it exists when you hit the button.

Yeah... That was one of the first things I tried. It works great for popular video sites, but not the unknown ones unfortunately...

Ouch... My finger would hurt from pressing it thirty times a second and then be just slightly pissed off that it still only black.

Thanks! Tried it and it works great! I think I may just need to disable display acceleration to make it work for other similar programs... It may even capture the frame when I use print screen. Maybe I'll try it later. Thanks for all the help, everyone!

for a Windows computer, Camtasia Studio 4 is the best!

My guess would that it uses overlay when playing the content. That would explain why normal capture apps as well as printscreen would capture only black. It simply captures what the windows GDI renders, a black square instead of what is overlayed in that position by the video cards overlay.
