I know of course that modern comics wouldn't be what they are today if not for him, but I can't think of what books of his are absolute must reads. Silver age books are fun for me to read, but I have never really dived right in and tried to pick up some great reads.
So I was wondering, what Kirby books do I need to read. I have read a few, Essential FF volumes, but other than that I can't think of what else.
Any suggestions?

OTFM.
This is Kirby as "King".

His run on Thor is great. It starts out slow with Thor as basically a run of the mill super hero, but once Stan comes back after leaving the book early on, they start getting into the cosmic and Asgardian stories and it's incredible. Volumes 2 and 3 of Essential Thor are just awesome. Volume 1, not so much, but, hey you might as well get them all…

I haven't read much of Kirby's Thor, and the 4th World and FF stuff are great, but my favorite run by Kirby was his Captain America stuff with Stan Lee. I'd recommend that stuff over the early FF stuff, honestly. It's really about issue 40 before the "classic" stuff is really classic. Still worth reading if you like Kirby. All Kirby is worth reading.

Thanks for the info guys! Will try to get the Fourth World stuff. I found the first two Cap Essentials today at an LCS for $5 each!! That will keep me happy for a while.

I like Kirby's work on Thor. But story wise (which is not entirely relevant to this conversation...), Simonson is my Thor.
Anyway the point is;
Jack Kirby = King Shit of Fuck Mountain.

You should find his grave and tape that to the headstone.
"No no, it's meant as a term of endearment!"

Only two men in history deserved such a title. Louis Armstrong and Jack Kirby.
Only one of them drew Captain America.

I think Elvis drew Cap on a napkin one time
