It's disappointing that none of my questions are getting answered but shout outs keep coming.

I don't even know what you're talking about, actually.

Live commentary for the Blu-Ray BD-Live community event with Christopher Nolan. They can control when the film plays and pauses, and there's a chat box on the screen where Nolan is answering questions people are submitting via laptop.

Ah...interesting. Hadn't even heard about it, but then I'm at work so I couldn't watch it anyway.

Hey, that article misses lots of great info that came out of the chat, such as how Nolan considers the movie a 2 pee movie, and next time he'd make a shorter, bathroom friendly film. :)

They did mention that when the Joker gets arrested he has a potato peeler in his pocket (Ledger's idea). I'd never noticed that before.

I'm not delusional enough to think that out of 100,000 people able to constantly send in new questions that mine were likely to get selected, but I figured that my questions would often have also been asked by someone else or that others would be asking even better questions, but sadly that was rarely the case. There were lots of "Who came up with the idea to have the batpod turn around?" type questions, always answered with some combination of himself and his brother, or questions like "Why does the Joker wear makeup?" where the answer would be "Because we wanted add to the sense of realism". If an actor in the film had any name recognition with anyone whatsoever there would be a "I love Actor X. Why did you pick him/her?" and every time it was followed with a stock answer. "I am tremendously grateful that an actor of the caliber of Eric Roberts was willing to take a small part in my film." Really, you don't think Eric Roberts should be the grateful one?

It was an interesting idea, but the chatroom interface was cumbersome. The technology could be utilized more effectively. Being able to control everyone's experience would mean that they could do a live interactive audio/video commentary over the internet that we could listen to from our laptops Hopefully this would allow someone like Nolan to offer more in depth info when he was freed from the limitation of his typing speed.

They also have the ability for you to upload your own commentary track, and download any that others have uploaded. I'm looking forward to checking out the inevitable Kevin Smith one once he realizes there is yet another opportunity for him to talk for 2 1/2 hours.

Haha!
Kevin smith...oh, how I love you!

I agree, I had the same fears going into the BD Live event, that people would ask dumb question, and bog down the server. But it was still pretty cool. (at least for a while) It got to a point where I just wanted him to discuss things HE wanted to talk about. I.e. this is what it was like shooting here, and look back there and see a rig, etc. It just felt like he was answering the same questions from an interview. At one point he did mention he had to pee, and a user actually purposed to his girlfriend...sad. I was completely surprised at how well the technology worked. With very few hang ups, the event was actually very smooth.

They did the same thing with Hellboy 2 as well. I think the studio's are going to push this even more, but I don't think it will become a huge selling point except for a rare few fanboys.

And I did get a question to go through, during the hospital explosion scene, I asked if the delay in explosions was intentional. Yes it was, for actors safety...etc.

It's like we're best friends now :)

I think the idea of it is really great actually. It's disappointing that there isn't a commentary already for the movie. How cool is it that this kind of interaction is now possible? It even opens it up for even more say the composer, cinematographer, and such. Very cool idea, unfortunately don't have the Blu-Ray and heard about it after the fact.
