If I can be curious for a second....
Do you guys do or want to do a 'worst of 2008' podcast? Whether it's an audio or video podcast, fun times could be had with that if you want to do it.
Not like I'm forcing you or anything......*holds bat behind back*

Isn't this the fourth annual? Either way, I'm about 50 minutes in and enjoying it.

We usually do a "best of/worst of" article in the beginning of January.

$@%# You Guys!
@$%# You Guys right up!
Do you have any idea how busy I am? Do you seriously have any #%##ing clue? I have Profession registration to do, I have my Post Grad thesis to write by Feb, I have to plan to move across the other side of the country!
And now I have to watch all these films and tv shows that sound so great. You think your helping, but your not!
So just stop telling me of all the great stuff out there.
Every movie that you mentioned or TV show you said, it made me want to go out and see it....and I will, thats the thing.
(Fortunately I am already an avid viewer of Peep Show (Josh: that show is awesome, im gla dyou love it too, none of my firends are into it either)).
But I dont have time for this!
%$#@ you!

I always thaught that in Tropic Thunder
Jack Black = Eddie Murphy/Chris Farley
Robert Downey Jr = Russell Crowe
Ben Stiller = Sylvester Stalone
And I agree with Conor. Wall-E lacked story and is one of the only
Pixar films I have no interest in ever rewatching.

It sounded like Conor had a similar reaction to 'Wall-E' that I did -- I appreciate the artistry but I had a hard time being engaged with a story that didn't have dialogue, actors, or recognizably human/anthropomorphic characters for the first hour. I didn't think it was a problem with the movie, it just didn't connect with my brain the right way. By the time they got to the station, it was a little too late.

While I can respect dissenting opnions on Wall E, I really connected with the love story aspect of it. Walll E's desire for companionship broke my heart, but then I'm a softie. i thought that the ship stuff distracted from the main arch of the stiory. I wanted to see WaLL E and Eve explore a dead planet more.
What'd everyone think of Burn After Readung

I'm pretty sure that if I expound on my Wall-E opinions anymore I will have to change my name and leave the country.
So, yeah. . ."Burn after Reading" was awesome!!

Holy crap Gran Turino was awesome! I was totally expecting that ending when it happened. I told my coworker exactly how it was going to end before it did.
Tao's acting was kind of bad when he was upset, but aside from that this movie was amazing.

I watched Gran Torino totally thining it was Dirty Harry in his retirement days. I mean come on " You punks get off my lawn" i was rolling on the floor. But i turned out to be a much deeper character, and an even better movie than i expected. I had no desire to see Tropic Thunder although not its in the Netflix qeue. And burn after reading i watche simply for malcovich but actally enjoyed a movie with Brad Pitt. Huh go figure. as for WALL-E i thought it was adorable and funny. Not the best PIXAR film but compared the other animated dreck that was released this year? Fly boys anyone? it was head and shoulders above the rest.

so after listening to this. I went to itunes and listened to some of the songs from the band los campesinos that you guys were talking about. And they are a really good band. Just bought both of there albums. thank you guys for telling me about them.
Great show and thanks for the shout out, Conor.
It occurred to me upon hearing the discussion that the way they can end the show with the Superman myth intact is to have Clark use Kryptonian technology to change everyone's memories of him. It's almost like they used Chloe's mindwipe to set up the possibility. Why else do it to her now?
I think he uses the K tech to wipe memories, there's a flash fills the screen then cut to Lois at her desk. The new reporter introduces himself, a tall guy wearing glasses. There's an explosion outside, some catastrophe. Everyone rushes to the windows. Except the new guy, he rushes out the opposite way, toward camera, pulling open his shirt which reveals a red and yellow S.
But I still think they can't show him in full costume. The first thought would still be, "Why didn't he design a mask?"
Guys,
Just wanted to say thanks for another great year of podcasting [and vidcasting] goodness. I was late to the iFanboy party but am thrilled to be aboard.
Listening to the episode gave me some food for thought. On the movie front, I agree with Conor that Hancock was entertaining; probably deserved more cred from the geek community than it got. Was it a flawed film? Hell yes, but what summer blockbuster isn't?
Thrilled to hear you give Tom a shout out for his show. As a podcaster myself, I couldn't agree more with your point about the difficulties of doing a solo mic show and being funny consistently, yet Katers gets the job done time and again.
A lot of your TV show chatter sounded interesting, but I just don't ever seem to have the time to watch TV. Guess this is stuff to add to the Netflix queue. Of the shows I do watch that got mentioned, there's no question that Mad Men is a masterpiece. That show is not only well written, but it's beautiful to look at.
Happy New Year,
Jason

Happy New Year iFanboy!
Now I see you guys don't actually play too many video games. Can't blame you. But I'm just saying, Wii games and Mario are very cool, but did you ever try games that are based on their story mainly?
I would like to recommend two classics that I think are very cheap but they have story and characters that top any other video game: Broken Sword Shadow of The Templars and The longest journey. Maybe you or the iFanboy community could check those out.

They each scratched different itches. I'm don't really feel the need to rank them. However, I can say that with John Adams, I was hooked immediately, and with Generation Kill, it was a slow burn, like the Wire. It takes a while to get hooked, but when you do...

I was the exact opposite. But I had just recently read Gen Kill, so that may have affected it somewhat.

I was sad there was no love for Pineapple Express. I thought it was the funniest movie of the summer, mostly because of James Franco. I got the impression that none of the guys watched it and when Ron said that Franco, who couldn't act, was pretty good in Milk, I thought: "Pineapple Express, Milk, Freaks & Geeks are all very different roles and he's great in all of them, but yeah, he sucked in Spider-Man." Of course, humor is subjective, but I thought Pineapple Express was hilarious.

And while we're on the subject...
Comedy Films of '08
5. Get Smart
4. Pineapple Express
3. In Bruges
2. Role Models
1. Zack and Miri Make a Porno
... I've seen far too many movies this year. I could probably make a top ten. Or fifteen.

Ron definitely saw it.
From the show:
00:38:30 - "Pineapple Express was another movie that suffered from that. It was initially... as a stoner comedy it was really funny but then it became an action movie. And got... became too long. It was a half an hour too long."

I tried to see it before the show, but didn't make it. I think Franco can be a fine actor, given the material and the interest. I heard the most fascinating interview with him on Fresh Air earlier in the year. He's most certainly not a dumbass. He has chosen some abysmal films before though.

Must have been one of the interviews where he was actually sober

It seems like the theme song for the film (Paper Planes by MIA) is more remembered then the actual film Pineapple Express.
Which I like the tune of the song, or the instrumental version of it....But that chick can take a hike cause she is a bad singer.
MIA is awesome. Her voice is perfectly suited to her style of music. Paper Planes is FAR from indicative of what she normally sings.
Also I loved Pineapple Express, it was probably the best comedy I saw last year. I loved the action-movie spoof sequences and thought Franco and Rogen were great together and generally hilarious.

I wouldn't call it the theme of the movie either seeing as it was only in the trailer and doesn't even appear on the soundtrack and came out long before the film did.

I just caught up and listened to this show. I enjoyed everyone's perspectives and it was perfect to listen to while exercising.
As for Wall E, I have to go back and watch it again. I saw the movie in the theater with my 3 year old niece sitting on my lap so I didn't really see it from my perspective but hers. Her favorite part? When they showed a scene of space and she exclaimed, "It's gallup seas, aunt Lauren!"
That moment alone quantified the movie as awesome.

I like Franco, sure he has his ups and downs, but for the most part he's good IMO. Didn't I hear somewhere that he might be Jesse Custer in Mendes' Preacher movie. (That I doubt will actually materialate at all)
As for Walle, I didn't love it, probably because my expectations were so high. Sure, the first thirty minutes or so were great, but after that it became really lackluster. I mean, the plot had absolutly no twists or turns. Compare it to raratui or toy story witch both had great plot eliments that were introduced, and then came back, it was just a patheticly simple plot. That being said, the animation was simply gorgius, and walle is the cutest character of all time.

At the moment, Wall-E and Slumdog Millionaire sit at the top of my top ten list for 2008. In Bruges is up there as well.
It's interesting. A lot of people love either the beginning of Wall-E and are annoyed at the introduction of human characters, or find nothing to latch onto until the humans show up. I loved both sections and thought it was easily, easily the best Pixar film. It's a Buster Keaton or Charlie Chaplin style romantic comedy with great visuals and great visual storytelling.
I loved Wall-E but I think Ratatouille is still my favourite.

I loved Ratatouille as well, but it's subjectively tainted because I don't find Patton Oswalt all that likable. And the character's sort of a snob. I adore everything else about it though.

Damn you iFanboy! You broke my mp3 player (Samsung K3)! Halfway through listening to your All Media Year Roundup, there was a long beep and it turned itself off. Then, I turned it back on, and it froze at startup! After a few minutes, I reset it which then turned it off. However, I tried to turn it back on and it's not doing anything! So, DAMN YOU iFANBOY!!
