So, my wife got me some Mighty Mugs for Christmas and I am debating if I should open them or leave them in the package. Do you open your toys?

Why, or why not?

I vote yes, unless it's a particularly rare one. However, I open all my Marvel Legends to display.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't.

Some people are weird like that. The collector in me want's to keep everything sealed up. But at the same time, I want to take the things out and decorate with them.

I never leave the toys in boxes. Toys are sad in boxes. Don't you know that?

Unless you're planning on selling it down the line, open the toy and enjoy it! Save the box if you want for the Mighty Muggs because they're easy to put back into the box.

I just got The Doctor from Doctor Who with 5 Adipose figures and I can't wait to open it!

I never thought about it that way. When I get home tonight, my toys are being liberated! They have you to thank for that.

When we were kids, my brother's best friend had almost the entire collection of Star Wars toys and wasn't allowed to touch any of them. This always seemed like the saddest and meanest thing ever.

Yeah, he may have a small investment there, but memories of shining flashlights on the TIE fighters and Millennium Falcon we strung from the ceiling with fishing wire are SO much better.

YAY for liberating the toys! *does a happy dance for your no longer sad toys*

Clearly someone has forgotten the lesson we've learned from one "Stinky" Pete the Old Prospector.

I've found that girls like Mighty Muggs. And if you don't cluster them together, it doesn't look like a collection.

Also, I live with my parents, so, probably not my primary problem.

If you don't open your toys, how can they have adventures?

I dont open. I stopped after I started running out of shelf space. So it is a million times easier to just hang the box on the wall then to try and squeeze some more shelf space or put a nice figure in a high traffic area (coffee table). Plus I can never guess when I will be hard up for money (layoffs, horrible economy) so I like having the option to sell for the same or more money.

Who says girls don't like toys? :p

A couple toys sure, but a massive OCD indication, not so much.

It's good natured teasing!

Bah! Did you see MY collection? LOL And that's just the Star Wars. Some girls would find Paper's collection mighty impressive. ;) I'm just sayin.

you gotta open up toys and stuff, it's like an unwritten rule of life! I had a friend who used to buy legos and action figures and stuff and never open them, he would just put the boxes on display. What's the sense in that? (Unless, of course, the box is cooler than the thing itself, in which case, leave it in the box)

Keeping Legos in the box is pretty much the most idiotic thing I've ever heard in my life.

So is that a yes then? :P j/k paper. But holy crap that's a lot of mighty muggs. I always see them and think about getting some and then never do. I don't know why. I think I might need to get one for my Desk at work.

Also most of my toys are sealed. Some of it is for the collectors reasoning, but recently I've been opening and in fact have been thinking of opening a lot of my other ones. Currently I don't have the room to do so and it's easier to store them in the boxes...

Also being lazy has a lot to do with it. Really the main point is that I'm lazy in trying to find the space for them.

Do you have any of the custom Mighty Muggs I see on ebay every now and then?

Nope. I like that people are doing that, but I never saw a custom Mugg that was so good I'd actually want to buy it.

I'd also like to stress that I didn't buy all of these. Many of them were gifts. Many. My dad used to collect toy cars, and now we sort of collect the Mighty Muggs together. He likes asking me about the characters and probably enjoys the thrill of the hunt even more than I do. We went to the Baltimore con this year and he scoured the place looking for new Muggs and for obscure old comics my aunt used to read. So it's something we can do together.

Cool, I don't know if I would ever order a custom Mugg online beacuse I would fear the person would make 1 really good one out of a batch of 20 and use that picture for selling all 20. Some do look pretty cool, the TMNT I would buy in a second though if I saw them at a con.
