Dear misguided REV3 management . . .

First let me tell you I'm a faithful viewer of Diggnation, TRS and Techzilla and a fairly frequent viewer of several other REV3 productions. (Bought Jinx Tee shirts - Adagio tea - Michelob craft beers . . . all directly as a result of seeing them advertised on REV3 podcasts.) But I gotta call you out on how you blew it big time giving up on Martin.

C'mon you gotta be able to find something for Martin to do. . . OK maybe his instincts regarding new show concepts are a bit rough. Perhaps if you had someone to produce his show that understands Martin and his sense of humor and his view of the world . . . instead of a what is likely a 3rd year college intern . . . It could make a huge difference. Someone experienced in focusing talent in ways that retain Martin's uniqueness but but at the same time making it more palatable to a larger cross section of viewers and sponsors. His ruthless sense of sarcasm may rub some people the wrong way. But it just needs refinement because underneath that roughness is a very quick and funny wit and a hilarious ability to take an off-center view of just about every issue. It's that edginess that sets him apart from every other techie-centric Rev3 show host. . . . . Not that I have a problem with the other Rev3 productions - but Martin's shows are (were) a nice departure into something on the weird side of fun.

Well that's what I think . . . for what it's worth.

Cute - but I already knew who produced it. I just said that to kinda poke you guys with a stick to see if anyone actually read these things. But my point is still valid. . . . Like I said - Perhaps - it would be better if someone ELSE produced the show. It's rather obvious that his shows never had the production investment / support that several other shows have received. (I understand - it's managements right to do what they want - it's also my right to tell them when I think the screwed up - even if I know it will likely be a waste of time.

and back at - "the wrong place to post" guy . . . done intentionally . Smaller audience better chance of it being read - as the 2nd reply showed and the fact it is listed on the main REV 3 page right now.

Again . . . my opinion for what it's worth .

Again . . . my opinion for what it's worth .Al new threads get posted to the front page of the main site ... so where you posted made no difference whatsoever.

You'll also notice the thread was moved to a more appropriate area.

Suggest you take it up over at the sargeworld.com forums.

Again . . . my opinion for what it's worth .Not much.

You kind of sum up how I feel about Martin with that. I agree, very few people understand his "sense of humor" and that is probably why he left. It's hard to make a popular show when the audience is already so small, then add in the fact that not everyone knows about Rev3... it amazes me he even got a show.

and that is probably why he left. He?

Dunno if I really want them to reach out to the masses...
...next thing you know, there'd be a bunch of people leaving
their regular party (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=966922) to hang out here to be 'popular'.

Would like to see Martin (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Martin%20Sargent&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi) do something...
...anything at this point:

...even if it's just him sitting in front of a slightly
out of focus fisheye lens on a webcam ranting,
while wearing a red white and blue dress,
a bong gently smoldering in the background,
and Jay (http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&safe=active&q=Jay+Speiden&btnG=Search+Images) roaming the room among chaotic shadows in a
rather soiled adult diaper, precisely although randomly
squirting mustard at the walls with a nouveau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Nouveau) flair,
continuously swearing a blue streak, off-camera...
...swilling whiskey from a jug, occasionally breaking stuff
for no visible reason, unless you freeze-frame the feed
to see the not-so-visible ninjas. Throw in a few off-colour
man-jokes and a couple cut-aways to parody's of
things that "suck-monkey-balls" versus "things-that-rule"
while incorporating some sorta trivial pursuit contest where
much like a cross-word, the answers come the following week...
...and there's always a "winner" even if there's no "superstar".

I'd even suggest since the lackluster promise of trying to get
people to 'watch' the show, Martin should rather, try to actually
piss off as many people as possible, in one go, with economical
efficiency akin to binge drinking entire cases of cough medicine.

That's just me though.

Actually, Martin has become almost a regular on the (audio) podcast This Week in Media. Including this weeks episode. (http://www.pixelcorps.tv/node/644) Get your sarge fix there, It's a good podcast in general.

Data, since almost everyone else has "meta-posted" (posted about the posting instead of the post), I will reply to the issues you addressed.

First, I like you, am a fan of MS. I think he has a unique point of view and a good set of skills for wringing humor out of it. I do have to disagree with you on some other points. First, being "Someone experienced in focusing talent" was supposed to be HIS job. He wasn't just a show host he was in charge of comedy on REV3. So if anyone should have refined his presence it should have been him. Like it or not, while he was at REV3 he was a one-trick pony. He found weird people on the net and made fun of them. That gets old fast. He was at his best in two situations: when he did segments on The Screen Savers that constituted a break from the regular flow of events and when he had a co-host (whose name escapes me, I am embarassed to say) on his late night talk show.

The best thing for MS to have done would have been to pop up in other shows--like the male voice on PopSiren for instance.

Second, while you did not directly say this you imply that REV3 didn't give him enough resources. I don't know much about TV budgets, but it strike me that the travel he did for his first show must have cost a lot more money that the budgets of others. And the set for IS seemed at least as "lavish??" as any other.

Oh, and don't demean third year interns as a group. They are pretty smart people.

What he should do now is develop a scenario in which he is part of the mix--commenting on the focus instead of being the focus. A good example would be the game show format I suggested a few weeks ago. Martin isn't the sitcom dad; he is the wacky uncle.

That said, like you, I hope to see him again.

Martin has mentioned several times (on TWIT, TWIF and TWIM) that he still has a production deal with REV 3 and is working on a second season of Web Drifter.
