I was recently looking at the new hardcover collections of Grendel that Dark Horse put out and I am interested in picking a few up. I know that the Archives HC has the first appearance/story, but where do I go after that? I haven't read any Wagner stuff before, but I am intrigued. I look to the IFanbase to steer me in the right direction.

I'm glad you posted this because I'd like to know also.
I believe the best place to start is with Grendel: Devil's Legacy.

It's the first full on comic arc within the Grendel world. There is the story of Hunter Rose which is in the Devil by the Deed before this, but it was originally a series of backups within Mage.
If you like Devil's Legacy then you're free to go back and check it out to get more history of Hunter, though most of that is covered in Devil's Legacy.
Plus Devil's Legacy is freakin awesome.
:) I hope you like it!

Devil's Legacy is excellent. However, I would start at the beginning with Devil by the Deed. After that, I'd probably read Batman/Grendel (the first two issue mini, featuring Hunter Rose vs Batman) which was one of my favorite Batman stories ever. Then, if you want more Hunter Rose, check out the Black, White and Red trades. Then I'd start moving forward with Devil's Legacy and go from there.
