This time of year, we set up goals that we hope to accomplish in the coming year. 2008 has had its ups and downs and only a few hours remain. So, for all those of you out there, who made resolutions for 2009? Anyone willing to share what they hope to accomplish in 2009?
My one and only resolution for 2009: Improve as a person, a friend, and an adult. 2009, BRING IT!

I've been tweeting them today as they occur to me:
So far,
My New Year's resolution is to learn that cool slo-mo turn and swagger exit that Angel uses.
2nd nyr: stop obsessing over unimportant things--like the GIFT SHOP in the Hall of Justice !
back pain! NYR 3: invest in the cyborg body. No pain. + My mind, Mjr Kusinagi's body=never leave home!

I never make new year's resolutions. I basically stick to the same philosophies that guilde me from year to year. I work out 5 days a week, eat fairly healthfully (with some exceptions), try to think positively even in the face of adversity, and be a good person (most of the time). :)

Have sex with someone other than yourself??
alaskalonewolf

Hmmmm.... sleep with someone,
...other than myself....
...uhm, er, uhhhh.... no.
Already got that covered, more often than I care to...
...not to mention, sex isn't the new toy it once was. Just lately... no.
At least for me... Don't get me wrong. I love it. I really do. I like to explore.
Especially in public elevators, backseats of small unlocked aircraft, and on
the edge of any hardwood surface, up along the wall in a resturant...
But lately... hmmmm... dunno. It's not really hitting the very top
of my list these past couple of months. More worried 'bout food.
...going to new, cool places with new cool people,
...and drinking beer.
http://www.agoraquest.com/personal_icon/file_1296463903hot_beer_girls.jpg
Everything kinda falls into place when you
get the priorities straight. But I'm still missing something...
Too much beer? Now if you've got the St. Pauli Girl's digits,
please lemme know. I'm still looking for her in twitter.
...oh, I got it:
Travel more.
http://scottthomas.us/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/oktoberfest_3.jpghttp://www.beerinfo.com/images/uploaded/SPG-Poster_thumb.jpg
...add to list some possibilities and variations:
Learn to speak, read, and write another language before this year ends...
Sleep with someone, other than myself, in every different country on Earth,
Drink a beer with someone, other than myself, from every country on Earth,
Get sh!thammered in every significant historical city on Earth within a year,
Collect last remaining pieces to fill the gaps in my epic comic book collection,
Wear a fur coat to a PETA convention while smoking in a non-smoking area,
Hack something huge and not get caught for it, add to my hack scrapbook,
Go to Disneyworld on President's day while tripping on some magical mushrooms.

Hahahahahaaaa... y'know Alaska invented the circle jerk.
Just remember it's not actually gay as long as it's just
with your (close) friends. :)
...[B]other resolution(s):
Run a website that sells crazy-sexy-stupid Alaskan calendars.
...with a dog-lover's set, and maybe one or two of just flowers.
Build a rose garden and get another bonsai tree to go with my herbs.
Design a portable backpackable rig with dish to retask satellites on the go.
Geocache my plans to colonize the moon somewhere in North America.
...oooooooh, and get some formal cunnilingus lessons from a lesbian.

i gave up my last evil habit i was a big time coca cola addict
i really doubt i would have gotten through college without that red can
i haven't watched real tv in years
oh yes i think i'll study theoretical physics
(since it is all theory anyway who's to know if mine is right or not)
alaskalonewolf
01-09-2009, 03:48 PM
Exactly. It goes with this other theory I have
that they actually do have a lot of things already
figured out, but who'd be stupid enough to actually
tell anybody... I mean, you saw what Oppenheimer did
with Einstein, and Edison did for Tesla. I imagine they had
both already "figured it out", but went to their graves upset,
even disgusted with the remainder of humankind, knowing full well
they better not go givin' anyone any more "good" ideas or else we'd
all end up dead. I imagine, that someone on the planet is already
trying to deal with their own new year's resolutions knowing that
if they shared their research, the world would change in an instant...
...not necessarily for the better...
...since not everybody is as nice as Warren (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Buffett) and Richard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Branson).
I wonder what their resolutions are this year....

I don't make new year resolutions, but since early summer 2008 I've officially lost 40 kgs (~88 lbs) by working out (mainly during last summer), eating less and cutting red meat from my diet.
I'm damn happy about it and this post was just made as a pat on my own back, because I deserve it. :p

Damn hippie.
There is nothing wrong with red meat, the problem is with excess.
LEAN red meat (and the key here is lean - ie less fat) is a source of fatty acids that are essential for lowering heart disease risk.
Having said that, I have cut red meat in my diet right back. I'll have the occassional burger, or steak if I am out, but at home it is generally low fat, high quality proteins such as chicken, turkey, or pork. I eat fish occassionally as well ...
My New Years Resolution was 8MP. I am hoping it will be 10MP or higher by the end of the year.

Not eating red meat was a "Hey, let's try this out" kind of thing, and it just stuck. I could put a little red meat in there without any problems, I think, but I'm feeling good the way it is right now, so I'm probably not going to bother. :)

Don't think I could give up all meats like chicken, turkey, and tuna. Red meat yea I could do that probably.

you would be surprised what you can give up
when i went to live with my now ex bf (and his parents if you can imagine that) his mother said: he will never be a vegetarian
but he was and still is
in fact after awhile he took over the cooking and even thought of going to the american culinary institute
he used to hover over me while i was cooking dinner and it really annoyed me so one day i just walked away from the kitchen went to the bedroom lay down and picked up book (i was big time annoyed)
shortly after there was a knock on the door and he hands me my dinner on a tray
so i thought 'if he wants to cook who am i to deny him'
after that he did all the cooking
everyday we had for dinner: fresh squeezed vegetable juice
fresh green salad with chopped vegetable olive oil vinegar dressing
either brown rice or whole wheat pasta with fresh cooked veggies
we both took ballet and yoga classes
we lived on a five acre waterfront estate (went with his father's VIP job)
we had a pool
life was good
in fact life was so good and so easy by comparison to now i feel like crying
i know i am better off because of the degree of independence i have gained and the opportunities that are open to me due to that independence but
it was hard won and difficult
but still way easier than most people on this planet have it

Is hard when everyone thats around eats meat.
Is hard when everyone thats around eats meat.
i know it is
when i was first on my own i used to hang out with all the health food types who were into yog and spirituality
that was very very very helpful
i became a vegetarian for vanity (i noticed vegetarians just looked better especially their skin)
then i came to realize the ethics involved
there is heartbreaking cruelty in the meat and dairy industry
i want to live as cruelty free as possible
there is a book everyone should read called skinny bitch (http://www.skinnybitch.net/) it lays it all out
of course living on south beach everyone is into looking good we have whole foods (some real beauties of both sexes to be found there) and a lot of produce is grown just south of here
one habit you can get into to start is always have the first thing you eat in the day be fruit any kind any quantity

I grew up around farms. Indeed we are looking at a 5 acre place to move to with a barns and stuff :)
I know the reality of the farming industry. It doesn't make me queasy.
Part of the attraction of the 5 acres is that we can have some sheep on the back paddock ... and there is nothing better than spring lamb ... served medium rare ... with fava beans and a nice chianti.

Seeing as this is where I posted about my weight loss in the first place, I'll update it here. I'm now 50 kg (~110 lbs) lighter than I was last summer and this will be my last official pat on the back in the matter. :)
I now weigh 72 kg (which actually makes it 51 kg), which is ~160 lbs.
