I would say this website is costing me a fortune recently. Buying lots of Trades I wouldn't have looked twice at (Asterios Polyp, Essex County, Strangers in Paradise etc) and loving them all.

This week I picked up Gi Joe Cobra and surprised myself that I actually enjoyed a GI Joe book.

Is that out in a TPB or HC?

It was the TPB.

It had the regular issues of the mini series + the special (Which was a areally cool mirrored story - pretty clever).

Just went from Preacher to the Invisibles(v1) and then Scott Pilgrim. Not sure what I'm going to read next yet but I'm sure a quick trip to Borders will solve that problem.

Last month, I won an ebay lot that included 5 trades of Astro City. I've read most of them from the library, but that was years ago. I'm glad to report that these are still amazing comics. I just polished off the first volume and have The Confessor (which I recall being one of my favorites) up next. Lovin' me some Astro City.

I read The Nobody by Jeff Lemire. Really enjoyed it but not as much as The Essex Country Trilogy, which I also recently finished. It was awseome. I loved everything about it!

I also read American Jesus by Mark Millar and thought it was ok. If another volume comes out I doubt I'd pick it up.

The NOIR Anthology was really good particularly the stories by David Lapham and Jeff Lemire.

Next, I'm going to get back on to Scalped, The Losers and also Goodbye Chunky Rice.

This will be a big week for me. I'll post impressions as I finish them instead of waiting till I'm done with everything as there seems to be less traffic in this thread lately.

Nextwave: Agents of Hate Vol. 1 - The art in this book is simply fantastic! I'm really enjoying the irreverent take on the traditional super hero team formula. Ellis' work usually hits or misses with me with no middle ground so I wasn't going into this with the highest of expectations. After finishing it, I can safely say that this comic is my favorite work that I've read of his (though I still need to read Planetary.) The dialogue provides the same tongue in cheek quality as an issue of Deadpool, but in a much more subdued manner. No fourth wall being broken here. The actions starts up right from the first page and the characters' relationships are explored while they are on a mission together which serves as a very engaging introduction. After finishing it I immediately ordered the second volume. I remember hearing murmurs about this series when it was an ongoing and feel guilty I didn't give it a chance at the time and recommend it to my friends because it really did deserve the attention. If you can track this down it is definitely worth the time to read.

I recently reread the first twelve trades of Fables (I have a lot of free time on breaks from school, apparently) and I really do like it. I was kinda surprised since I figured it wouldn't hold up, but it actually is quite good.

Also, read the majority of Dynamo 5 in trade (again, I bought it in trades only for awhile) and DAMN, the early issues were really good.

I've read recently:

Essex County Trilogy - seriously great collection. I'm in love with Jeff Lemire's storytelling and art, and these stories are some of his best.

The Nobody - Again by Jeff Lemire. This was another good read but not as good as the essex county trilogy. I'd still recommend it though.

American Jesus by Mark Millar - This was an ok story, basically about a kid being the modern Jesus. Some bits were interesting, some funny but I don't think I liked it enough to buy another volume if it's ever made.

Burke And Hare - I think this is only released in the UK but I wouldn't worry, it wasn't spectacular. It was about the true story of 2 murderers in Scotland who killed people so they could sell them to a doctor for cash. It was interesting since it was a true story and from an historical perspective but nothing that will blow you away.

FreakAngels Vol3 - This is getting even better! I really love this series. The conflicts between characters are really starting to come out more now. Ah, it's just really good. The least you should do is go and read it online for free at freakangels.com

I'm sure there's more I've read but can't remember just now.

Next up are are a few Jason books, Gotham Central Vol1, The Losers Vol1 and The Surrogates.

just finished 'spider-man: reign', 'walking dead' book 4 hc and 'camelot 3000'.

- 'reign': i really liked the story. pretty dark. i also dug the art, although it got confusing at times. it's all pretty dark colors with a lot going on.

- 'camlot' - man, this is pure 80's. from the story to the art and especially the coloring. if you like knights and/or artus, give it a try. i didn't know, that this was the first ever maxi series.

- 'walking dead' - this is quickly becoming my favourite series of the last 2-3 years. the story gets better and better and there is quite an unexpected twist/shock in the end of book 4. can't wait to see, where kirkman goes next.

next up: 'eternals' (gaiman) and 'great and secret show' (barker).

not sure what to order next. i have two full pages on my amazon wish list :))

i also found some boxes with floppies in the basemant. a lot of image (anyone remember 'arcanum'?) and chaos stuff (i really liked 'evil ernie' and 'lady death' at the time).

i have to take a closer look, but i think i have an almost complete run of 'razor: uncut' (1-30-something). two of them signed by the artist and writer (can't remember their names right now). fun times.

Just read CANCERTOWN and it was awesome! I bought it randomly from amazon and man am I glad I did. Any review or description I give here wouldn't do it justice but the originality and imagination in this book is incredible. As well as that, the dialogue is of some of the best I have ever read and the art is both dark and beautful. This was amazing and everyone should read it. http://www.cancertown.co.uk

Superman - Superman for all Seasons - I've heard good things about this. It was ok, nothing great. I liked the quietness of the book. It's not something I would ever re-read.

Notes for a War Story by Gipi - Aside from The Killer from Archaia, this is my first venture into European comics. I tend to enjoy mob type stories so this was ok, but I wasn't overly impressed and won't really strive to seek out other works by the writer based on this.

I dont remember if I already mentioned SOUL STEALER in this thread... but it's a series written by Michael Easton and drawn by Christopher Shy. The second book came out a few months ago. First book came out in 08 and the third is scheduled for 2010 :] It's simply AMAZING. The first is admittedly a slight bit clunky but the second book really solidified this series as being one of my absolute favorites. It is not serialised monthly, just the paperbacks. Look at this gorgeous splash page :3

As part of the reboot of Powers this month, I decided to re-read the first 8 trades through my local library. While the series as a whole was good, I don't think it really found its way until the fourth trade as that storyline really took that comic to the next level. I thought trades 4-8 were spectacular. I'm excited for the reboot now.

I've not read any. I'll check it out... probably another to add to my wish list though. Woop. Thanks :-)

It's started as a lot of one page stories mainly being Jimmy Corrigan and Quimby the mouse. Jimmy Corrigan became an on going story that ended and was collected, I take it it's the collection you have. There is a collection of the Quimby stuff thats in a lovely over sized book that is worth getting but is only one page strips. He is now working on two on going stories in the acme book Rusty Brown and Building stories that I would imagine will one day be collected but since they haven't been finished that could be years off. It's worth gettig the book because it's like a graphic novel every year and has more going on than any other book out there. Even the legal stuff at the bottom of the opening page as jokes in it.

Yeah it's the jimmy corrigan collection I have. I'd no idea it was part of Acme (or part of anything). Is it "The Acme Novelty Library" I should be looking at getting? On amazon I also see no.18 and no.19 and a couple called datebooks...

It's is called Acme Novelty Library. Go after the books as the date books are sketch books he has done. I don't own them but maybe one day cause they would look good on my comic shelf.

Well i was out at the mall shopping with a friend when i noticed that the malls Waldens was closing. There i thought i would walk through and see what deals I could get and boy did I find some. I ended up picking up Thor Volume 2 Prestige Version(Straczynski's run) and due to the fact that I hear Josh talk about it alot,i also picked up The Deluxe Edition Book One of Fables. The part that made the deal great was due to the sale i got both for around 23 dollars. The Fables was more than 29.99 and the Thor was 24.99. So i walked away with a pretty good deal.

That is a pretty good deal for a mall price. But you could have gotten the Fables Deluxe on Amazon for 19.99. And given the iFanboy team a little bit of dough in the process if you used their link. Not sure about the Thor book, but I'm assuming it's a similar deal.

Just a heads up: I know money is tight all around these days (you should see the huge hit my pull list has taken over the last 6 months....) Amazon really has great prices on most comics TPBs and hardcovers. If you want to stretch your comics dollar, it's a good place to look.

One a Side question: Walking Dead Tpb or HC book?

The hardcovers are very nice but they only collect up to issue #60 including Volume 5 that's coming out in a couple weeks, but the trades collect up to the more recent #66 and come out much much more frequently. I bought The Walking Dead Compendium Vol. 1 on Amazon for less than $40 and that collects up to #48 in one book then I got trades 9-11. It really depends on whether you just want the story for a bargain or you want to display them on a shelf.

Also, the compendium is sort of hard to read without damaging the spine.

I sat down the other night and read 3 Story. As was mentioned when it was book of the month, it's a really great, emotional tale. I love the way that Matt Kindt tells a story, even if I miss the emotion of a panel here or there. He's just so unique with his story telling. It's definitely a book I can see growing better and better with each read through.

i've finished 'the hunter' this weekend. i really liked the art and overall 'feel/mood' of the book.

i must say, though, that i liked the story of the movie a little better. seemed to have a little more depth in the relationships between the characters. that said, i have not read the actual novel.

apart from that, i recommend reading it if you like crime/badassery.

Just finished Osamu Tezuka's Apollo's Song and all I have to say is DAMN! Seriously Tezuka is crazy good, saw his influence on Scott McCloud in this book. The story was way ahead of its time and presented a form of "manga" that differs quite a lot from the modern state (which I'm not the biggest fan of).

Hey, aren't we in 2010?!

Recently read the first volume of Fear Agent. Awesome!

Also, DMZ vol. 5. I'll be honest. This trade, just like vol. 4, did not have much of the main character, Matty Roth and...well, I liked them a WHOLE lot better. I really just don't like the main character much, though I do like the storytelling and concept.
