I watched Hulk Vs. tonight on DVD. The Thor part of the movie was so very crappy and uninteresting, but the Wolverine part was very good. All I know is that Marvel has a long way to match DC's animated movies.
New Frontier is already a god among all DVD's. I dont think any animated Marvel DVD can top that. Let alone the other fantastic DC DVD's. At least DC is doing a good job on that front....now if only they can do more then just great Batman films.

REALLY REALLY REALLY looking forward to Green Lantern: First Flight. DC made a wise decision in getting Bruce Timm involved in these movies, since the animated shows were almost flawless. On an unrelated note, doesn't Bruce Timm look alot like Dwight from The Office?

Watched Repo! The Genetic Opera yesterday......fantastic!
My girlfriend fell absolutely head over heals in love with that movie, whereas I unfortunately couldn't stand it. Going in I thought it was going to be a slam dunk cause I love bloody B-movies and Rocky Horror Picture Show, though for me this was unfortunately a perfect storm of poop. I think the songs were the final nail in the coffin, especially that annoying Graverobber song, mainly cause it gets stuck in your head! " The zydrate goes in the little blue vial..." arrrg!

Exactly how both I and my girlfriend felt. We had tried to see it while it was still in theaters but the last night they were showing Repo they decided not to because that was opening night of Twilight and used the theater for that instead. So we were pretty stoked when it eventually turned up at the video store.....till we watched it. It was pretty excruciating. It looked good, sounded good, but the lyrics/plot left soooooo much to be desired. I was almost heartbroken. But in keeping with the themes of rock operas, this weekend I plan to watch Tommy for the first time since my gf was apalled that I'd never seen it before. She says its much better then Repo.

Tommy is fun, I definatly recommend it (especially if you're a Who fan. If you are and haven't seen it, tsk tsk). Roger Daultry looks a bit doofy when trying to act blind, but I wouldn't want anyone else in the world to replace him singing in this movie. Keep an eye out for Jack Nicholson doing a rare singing performance! In fact, let us know what you think of his singing, its always fun to hear peoples' reactions to that!

I've not heard much Who, but I enjoy what I have heard. Its my girlfriend's father's favorite band, so I need to increase my knowledge base to impress. I'm excited to see it though.
One movie I caught recently on TV was Confessions of a Superhero. Any one seen it/has this been covered? It was intense, and really interesting. Its about people that dress up as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Hulk on the Sunset Strip for a living. Its crazy stuff, kinda like Ellis' Ruins. The former career of Batman..... I highly recommend it.
Star Trek is easily the best Trek movie ever and probably better than any 2 hours of Trek TV also.

Watched Casshern on DVD last night...from a technical standpoint the movie is amazing. It has fun effects and CGI, the cinematography is beautiful, and I loved how the shots are filmed with an anime style. In that respect, it's the best anime adaptation I've seen yet.
The story drags a bit sometimes however, especially one of the B-stories involving the Chairman and his son. For some, the entire story may be a bit dizzying to follow, but everything ties up pretty nicely at the end, so I'm guessing most people reading this won't have a problem (we've all read our fair share of dizzying and hard-to-follow storylines before.)
I remember casshern.
it was really cool looking but it lost me like halfway through the movie.

Interiors wasn't that good.
I caught a showing of Angels and Demons last night. It's a far superior product to The Da Vinci Code, and they did a better job of building tension. While I still prefer the book and it had some plot holes, the movie was pretty enjoyable. The people I went with really, really liked it.

Saw an advanced screening of Drag Me To Hell last night, and as a Sam Raimi fan I was completely pleased. Alot of classic Raimi techniques were used and the little CGI there was is done well and doesn't make the film seem stupid.
That being said, there was one critical plot element that was missing from the film, one that would have made it into a tight and solid movie. In other words, WHERE THE FUCK WAS BRUCE CAMPBELL?!?!?!
My dad and I went to a late show of Terminator: Salvation. While its no masterpiece, I really enjoyed the movie immensely. I thought it did a nice job of perpetuating the storylines of the previous movies, and the action and effects were both excellent. Two thumbs up.

Dude this is just the start of the trilogy. We're gonna see this war from beginning to end so I wouldnt fret on that.
Was it the best story (or more importantly a great script), hell no. But for me it was fun and entertaining. Plus the last hour really kicked in for me that this was a good summer blockbuster. I'm excited to see the next installment cause McG is floating ideas around on interviews....and they sound badass.

It must have been Christain Bale's easiest script to read. Most of his lines were either single sentences or just yelling stuff out. "HERE! CONNOR! ONE!"
It was ok, a good waste of time if you're with friends. Loved the robots, also liked the fact that there was 60% less screaming at the sky than in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

It was a bummer that Memorial Day weekend didn't have more big movie releases out. I had a 3 day weekend and I would have loved to catch a flick but I sure wasn't going to pay to see Terminator: Salvation.
I really looking forward to 'Up' this weekend. Except for 'Bug's Life,' Pixar has never done any wrong by me. Heck, I even liked 'Cars' although it did feel like a Deamworks movie. Has anyone here seen Up yet? How does it compare to the other Pixar releases?

I can't think of one thing I enjoyed about it. I guess the robots looked kind of cool but the story, acting, directing, all of it really was bad. I've heard nearly nothing but good things about Up, and it's probably the only Summer movie I've really been psyched to see. I'll likely be seeing it Saturday.
I've only heard one negative review for it, from someone on another message board I frequent. He vehemontly HATED it, said that it sucked.
His reasoning was that Pixar have gotten too full of themselves/pretentious, didn't bother to make a movie kids could follow by throwing in a lot of stuff they wouldn't understand ("What's a court summons?", etc.), and that instead of building up to one big sad moment they just had a bunch of sad moments, supposedly "sometimes just for shock value" (not sure what he meant there). He said it's the worst Pixar movie yet, that he's "done" with Pixar movies, at least in the theater, and he was no longer looking forward to Toy Story 3 because they'll "bog it down with too much melodrama".
Though to be honest, I've not exactly fond of the guy, so I'm not gonna let him sway me from seeing it and will likely tell him I felt completely the opposite from him after seeing it.

Ignore that guy. Up was awesome. That reviewer is ill-informed when it comes to writing for kids. The court summons wasn't overly technical and if a kid doesn't fully understand the plot point, it's not on screen long enough to pose any kind of problem. The movie is also intended for all ages and not just children.

watched both "Fired Up" and "He's Just Not That Into You" today...now, despite having heard terrible things about both, I was still really excited to watch both. However, I was let down by both as well, and for the most part, the negative things I've heard I would agree with.
Fired Up was probably the lesser of two evils, and I found a couple of moments where I laughed out loud, but overall there just really wasn't anything unique or creative in there, and the characters were not likable either which really is the make or break of these movies for me.
He's Just Not That Into You actually looked like the intellectually superior film between the two, but I actually found myself more annoyed with it than Fired Up. There just really wasn't anything interesting going on, and it seemed to be extremely slowly paced for a comedy/drama type movie of this caliber. The movie could easily have had 20-25 minutes cut and I don't think it would've hurt the film in the least.

He's probably just mad because the movie made him weep like a little girl. There's nothing worse for a human being filled with spite and rage.
I actually liked the bits of sadness sprinkled into the movie. It makes them more manageable and grounds the characters more. It's more realistic to see characters dealing with their emotions in the moment than all at once, you know? It's not like I schedule my "bummer time" for every Tuesday night...

I saw two movies this week that made me cry.
Up and The Hangover of course one was tears of laughter.
There isn't anything new I can add to whats already been said about Up except just go see it. And for that guy saying kids wont get a "court summons" then he must think kids are idiots. I am not genius but I am pretty sure I understand that when a character has to go to court its never for a good thing. Of course I also had Night Court to teach me such things. Also I could have taken at least two more hours of those dogs in the movie.
The Hangover was a blast mainly because all three of the leads were perfect in the roles they played. All three are hilarious, great characters. It delivers really really really well.
I also watched The Brothers Solomon. It actually surprised me a lot more then I thought it would. Its not a good movie but there are some jokes that did cause me to laugh. I don't think I would recommend it, but watching it really late at night makes it work for some reason. Will Forte is so strange though, both writing and acting wise.

Went to see Away We Go this weekend and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a big barrage of cuteness and wittyness, but it doesn't feel too forced in the way Juno was, and all the actors had great comic timing (especially John Krasinski...although he was very "Jim" in this movie. I hope he doesn't get typecast.). The breakout star of this though was Maya Rudolph, as this SNL alumnus shows a great acting range that we rarely see the former actors of the show do well. If we're talking about the original film concept, Megan Fox could work in the role. The character development in the series aside, the basic pitch for Buffy is "The cheerleader runs towards the vampire." The buxom eye candy who normally runs away from danger only to be slaughtered in the first reel actually fights back.

Brothers Bloom... from Rian Johnson (Brick)
Good stuff.
Not perfect but a good follow-up to Brick, which I friggin' love. I was worried that it wouldn't live up to my expectations.
Good con movie.
Rachel Weisz was fantastic. Mark Ruffalo and Rinko Kikuchi were damn good.
Adrien Brody was good as usual but I think he was kinda outshined or something.

Here's a random film I just saw:
The Brady Bunch Movie
You know where it's a spoof of the tv show, and how everyone is living in the 1990's while the family still thinks it's the 60's. Gary Cole as the dad? Perfect casting. Hell I am not a fan of the tv series but the references and jokes here are spot on. It might look stupid at a glance, but it's really hilarious. Same for the sequel.

i watched Toy Story and Toy Story 2 back to back. i love love loved the first one. a classic. the 2nd was a good movie, but it lacked the magic that made the 1st so classic and special. but a good movie none the less
i watched The Kingdom and was sorely disappointed. i went into thinking it would be an awesome action movie. it was not. besides the opening set piece, there wasn't a single action scene until the final act. until that, it was just a dumbed down Syriana. Peter Berg has gotten better since this movie. there was no geography in the direction. he was just a Michael Mann wannabe in this

Did anybody see it? What'd you think? I think compared to the book, it was extremely rushed and the Half-Blood Prince thing was more of a passing afterthought near the end than something that actually drove the plot. Please share.
I know this isn't based on a comic, but I figured with the fantasy element I could get away with it.

I didn't see it, but my wife is a Harry potter nut, so she went and said pretty much the same thing. She felt some things were rushed, things were in that didn't need to be and important things were either rushed or left out. She liked it, but felt others in the series were better.

"Transformers 2"- 2.5 hours of visual/auditory vomit. There is no reason that a action movie should be mindless. "Terminator 2" is one the best movies ever made and it's a big Hollywood effects action movie.
"Away We Go"= the best movie of the year so far.
"Harry Potter 6" easily the best of series. Nice to see some decent acting from the kids. Movie shied away from typical special effects battles for more ground character interactions. Beautifully shot.
Next movie: "500 Days of Summer" I don't care for Zooey Deschanel, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt is probably the one of the best actors of his generation.

Star Trek is easily the best Trek movie ever and probably better than any 2 hours of Trek TV also.
While on it's own "Star Trek" is a fine movie, it captures none of the 60's hope for the future that permeated the original series. It had the facade of the show (ships, uniforms, etc.) but none of the heart.
I'm not the biggest Star Trek fan but I think the optimistic bent the original Star Trek had helped to separate it from the horde of Space Operas before and after it.
So, yeah, I have to disagree with you.

It's good, it's really good in color. They took their time and if you think the film is trippy in b and w, see it now. With b and w, you have to keep in mind they did that for budget reasons, not for artistic ones, so this color version takes nothing away, it adds if anything.

Waltz may get nominated, but it'll probably be for Best Supporting Actor. Pitt will probably get the Best Actor if Basterds gets nominated.
As for best movie...well...with some exceptions, its rare that a movie as fun as Basterds wins the award. The winning movies usually have serious stories and acting. Even though everyone in the movie was a blast, it doesn't seem like the type of thing the Academy considers as Best Movie.

The Room...was...AMAZING!
So the entire theater was packed, I think it was a sold out show. Everyone around us were either drinking 40's or smoking pot. It was a great atmosphere, the crowd was obviously ready for a good time.
Before the movie started, there was a short intro from some of the actors of the movie (acting like crazy, of course). And then the film started...and boy was it a doozy. People were yelling shit at the screen, calling out the many memorable quotes, and even throwing hundreds of spoons at the screen whenever the inexplicable framed pictures of spoons came into view! There was even a live band in the theater playing the music during the sex scenes.
Overall, it was a pretty amazing movie going experience. I know in NYC, they do this like once every month, so definitely make an effort to go see it and get tickets as fast as possible. I know I will again.

I guess I just went to watch Halloween 2 but got a crazy Clockwork Orange version of what I had hoped to see.

I've watched a few blu-rays recently:
The Wrestler - quite good. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would but that's not saying much because I thought I'd hate it but it really didn't live up to the hype for me at all. His daughter annoyed me - thought she over-acted. And one minute she hates him (fair enough) and the next minute they're out having some nice father-daughter time together and then she's screaming hate at him again cos he forgot to turn up to dinner. Anyway, it was watchable, not bad.
In The Valley of Elah - I thought this looked like it would be a bit boring but I'm so glad I gave it a try. It's one of those films where the dialogue and acting really make the film. One of the better films I've seen this year.
Valkyrie - *yawn* turned it off
Watchmen - only just got round to watching this!! loved every moment of it. The characters were cast so well. Dr Manhattan and Rorschach were perfect. Loved the comic, loved the film.
Angels and Demons - I did manage to watch this all the way through somehow but it was ridiculously predictable and... meh, it just wasn't a good film.
I haven't been to the cinema in ages but wouldn't mind seeing Inglorious Basterds (I think... might hate it) and Hurt Locker, and maybe Up - looks cute.

Wrestler is a beautiful movie. I don't know if bluray enhances anything but it is a must have.
My wife and I watched two flicks tonight.
The first was the original Taking of Pelham 123, which was a really good old movie. The ending isn't all that exciting, but the acting is good and the pacing of the story is really nice. It's also interesting to see how everything with the subways and such worked back then.
The second was Taken with Liam Neeson. Both of us thought it was an excellent thriller as it had some tense moments peppered with really good action. There's no over the top violence, and everything that happens serves the story. It was definitely a great movie.

Aww man I had no idea they were doing this. That dude was great as Rorschach but... Robert Englund is Freddy. Nightmare on Elm Street was one of my favourite films as a kid (thank you mum for letting me watch it way before I was 18 :D). I'll be interested to see how it turns out.
Is it meant to be some kind of remake of the 1st film? I see Nancy is in it but I don't recognise the other names. There's a bit in the trailer that looks like a remake of the scene where Tina gets killed in the 1st movie - at around 1.40 in the trailer. And the bath scene too.
Damn I'm kinda excited but I shouldn't be should I?

Ya its a remake. New Line aka Warner Bros. announced the remake of this a little time after the Friday the 13th remake announcement.

Go see Zombieland. Seriously, it's the most fun I've had watching a movie in a long time. It's also one of the best zombie apocalypse movies out there.
I watched Push tonight. It was very 'meh.' One of those "if I think about this too much, I might just go insane" kind of flicks.

It turns out I basically don't like films that most other people think are great. Recently I watched State Of Play, Seven Pounds and Shrink. Didn't like any of them. On my to-watch list are Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, District 9 and eventually Zombieland. Awesome films right? I'm prepared to not like them then :(

Um, those are weird films to chose for comparison. I think most people would tell you that the movies you did see were not as well liked or created anywhere near the same amount of buzz as the movies you haven't yet seen.
State of Play (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/stateofplay?q=State%20Of%20Play) - 64
Seven Pounds (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/sevenpounds2008?q=Seven%20Pounds) - 36!
Shrink (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/shrink?q=Shrink) - 40!
VERSUS!
Hurt Locker (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/hurtlocker?q=Hurt%20Locker) - 94!
Inglourious Basterds (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/inglouriousbasterds?q=Basterds) - 69 (not great, but still better than the others)
District 9 (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/district9?q=District%209) - 80
Zombieland (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/zombieland?q=Zombieland) - 70 (shouldn't be that low!)
Anyway, these numbers are meaningless in the end. I'd certainly rather see any of the second group of the movies instead of any of the first group, so I wouldn't be so concerned. District 9 and Zombieland will be a hell of a lot of fun, so go check them out.

It shouldn't be that low. Cause it's the most awesome and action packed zombie film since....well since Shaun of the Dead. Technically there wasn't a whole lot of action in that though.

Meh, I don't really trust the scores and ratings in general. Boiling a movie down to just a number or even worse a "yay" or "nay" vote really does the movie a disservice. That's why I love that the TRS guys don't assign any sort of value to their movie reviews.
That said, I saw 7 Pounds, and was really disappointed. ***spoiler alert!!*** I didn't expect much, didn't get much, and ended up watching a two hour PSA for texting-while-driving.
ps- is there anywhere on the website that mentions the films they'll be reviewing the following week? I don't know where it is after the redesign. Did they say it at the end of the last show? If they aren't reviewing Zombieland or at least seeing it they're missing out...

It's at 89% now, which for any genre movie (especially a goofy comedy like Zombieland) is pretty monumental, IMO.

Yeah, that's at Rottentomatoes.
On both sites I checked out the negative reviews, and frankly most of them didn't seem all that negative. Rottentomatoes had one review marked as negative, when the reviewers gave the movie a 'B' on their scale. I don't think that sounds like they disliked it.
Anyway, just more evidence that these sites are sort of worthless when evaluating a movie. I usually use them as a launching point to find positive or negative reviews.

I loved the 1st SAW film so much it just made me fall in love with them all even though none of them have really been that good since the 1st. In fact they've got progressively worse as they've went on. But I'm still really looking forward to VI and will be there on halloween night ready for more Jigsaw and traps! I can't help it.
I watched a couple of flicks this weekend with the wife.
First one we watched was Reign of Fire. I think she hates me after watching it. I thought it was good, popcorn fun, but she hated it. Oh well.
Next up was The Killer Elite, which was recommended in the latest issues of Criminal. It was pretty good, but I didn't really connect with it like the author of the essay. My wife was pretty ambivalent about it.

Alright, just got done watching Paranormal Activity.
First off, I had a horrible audience. They would literally talk like they were in their living rooms and would repeat what would happen on the screen. A shadow would move across the door and someone would say "Oh My God A Shadow Just Move Across The Door." It was completely annoying.
Ok, so the best way to sum this movie up is 30% of this movie is scary & 70% of it is annoying characters giving exposition and beating over your head what had happen last night and what is to come. This movie could also be summed up by saying its that e-mail that makes you stare at the screen and then something jumps at you or screams at you. Instead of 30 seconds you wait 1hr30 for it to happen. So this movie is ok. If I had watched this in my house alone with the lights out I might have had a better time.

I watched I am Legend on Blu-Ray with the 'controversial' ending. I really liked the alternate ending the other felt tacked on and the hints that monsters were human had no relevance to the theatrical ending.
*SPOILERS*
The alternate ending had the monster crack the glass door and then smudge a butterfly with his hands on the window. Will smith hears his daughter say. "Look at the butterfly." he looks at the infected he has tied up and heavily sedated, has a butterfly tattoo he gets the woman and her son to open the door. he wheels out the infected woman who is heavily sedated the monster go for him but the ring leader yells and they back off. He grabs a needle and wakes her up with an injection he apologizes and the infected leave. He falls to the fall and sees a wall of photos of infected he killed trying to cure them, only that they were still human all along. It finishes with them leaving north, with a radio message saying they are alive.

I felt the opposite! I liked the ending where they hint the creatures are not as far gone as Smith thought. The fact that they set a fairly well thought out trap for Smith would suggest the creatures can still form a thought or two. I also liked the idea that Smith is the monster in their eyes because he has killed so many of their numbers.
Plus, who wants to see the lovable Will Smith killed? Not me!

There seems to be a decent audience for it. I saw it last night and for a wednesday night the cinema was reasonably full. It seems that there are a lot of people in the "please no more saw movies!" camp but when they're released they rake in a good amount of money.
Anyway, I enjoyed it. It was better than II and V, which are my least favourite of the lot. I just think they made a mistake by killing off Jigsaw so early because they've had to involve him now from 'beyond the grave'. I absolutely love the Jigsaw character. None of them will ever come close to the first one for me though. It just blew me away, even with the crap acting, lol. If anyone tells me they predicted the ending for the first Saw I WILL NOT BELIEVE YOU! :D
Roll on Saw VII :D
I thought the trailer for Paranormal Activity looked pish.
I'm going to see the Michael Jackson movie on Saturday. Can't wait.
I just finished The Dark Knight for the billionth time, but it was my first time watching it on Blu-Ray. It's not too huge of difference on Blu-Ray, but it's still an amazing movie. Those last two minutes with Gordon's speech always give me goosebumps.

I have never seen any of the Saw movies, or Hostel, or any of the 'torture porn' flicks. Maybe I'm the last person on earth who isn't turned off by extreme gore.
But the Saw films are the type of movies that have a built-in, reliable audience. Studios know that if they can make them under a certain budget, they will be profitable.
Looking forward to catching Fantastic Mr. Fox and Ninja Assassin over the next few days.
I just got back from Fantastic Mr. Fox. It was...fantastic! One of Wes Anderson's strongest movies yet. It's got this wonderful vibe to it, and is perfect for any and all age groups. The only hurdle I see is if people don't like the animation style, but it has this wonderful charm to it. The detailing the puppeteering is really amazing.

ninja assassin was ok.
I'm not sure if it's really worth seeing in the theatre.
i'm just a big ninja fan so I would've gone to see it either way but while the action scenes are the best part of the movie there's still some problems with the close ups on the action.
i'd give it a 3 or 3.5 out of 5.
