Have any of you guys been keeping up with Royal Pains?
I'm totally in to it, every episode has been better than before and there's so much they can do with a show set in the Hampton's I think it can keep going up.
I'm enjoying Royal Pains, but the new summer show I'm REALLY loving is Nurse Jackie. It's fantastic.

Season 2 airs September 8 for 13 episodes.
Sons of Anarchy is amazing, I've still got most of the first season recorded and I watch it all the time. Royal Pains is good but doesn't have anything on Burn Notice.

Apparently the third season of Mad Men is premiering next month, so they've put the previous seasons into the onDemand rotation on Comcast. I'm most of the way through season 1 and really enjoying it. Though it reminds me of Six Feet Under in the sense that there is a general sadness over everyone in the show.
All the comments about the production design are spot on though. You feel like you've gone through a time warp.

I'm a huge fan of Adult Swim's Frisky Dingo/Xtactles. I was so sad when the production studio behind it and Sealab closed its doors. But the team behind those great series started a new and has made Archer (http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/archer/) on FX. This show is very much a sibling to Frisky Dingo in the same comedy and animation vain except instead of superheroes its James Bond-esque spies. Great voice work and hilarious comedy watch this show.

Oh wow I didn't know anything about this!
Frisky Dingo was one of my favorite shows when it was on the air. Sucks they won't be able to finish it but this new show looks really good. Thanks for posting this, never would've known it's existence otherwise.

Is anyone watching Flash Forward tonight? I'm in the UK and it doesn't air til next week (so I'm downloading it now). I've been doomed to be disappointed by it ever since I saw it described as "the next LOST" but I'm still excited.

I'm worried that it's being called the next Lost. Cause that never ends well when they label that on a new show.
But I'm pumped for this series. It's an interesting idea and they held their lips shut to make sure nothing gets spoiled ahead of time. Kinda like Lost starting.....Anyways, it's the one show I was looking forward to the most this year.

Was Fringe ever called the next Lost? I can't remember why I was excited about it. Oh it's probably because it was JJ Abrams. Man was I disappointed!
Edit so I don't triple-post:
Can I start watching Grey's Anatomy from tonight's episode like the way you can watch any CSI episode or do you have to watch it from the start? I'm in a tv mood and I don't watch tv usually. I need a good drama like Lost or Flash Forward or even Life or Breaking Bad (though I kinda lost interest in that last one, dunno why - it's good)

I actually felt the same way about Fringe. I watched the first couple episodes and found the lead actress kind of off putting. I stuck with it for about six episodes, then it went on break and I never picked it back up.
Then for a gift a friend got me the DVDs for season one because she was like "you like weird shows like this right?" So I went back and re-watched it and it was like a completely different show and I've actually really started to enjoy it.

Really? I think I only got to the 3rd episode. Every episode followed the same (stupid) formula. It was flawed in so many ways. I hated that I didn't like it because there was so much hype around for it when it first began but watching it just made me cringe cos it was so bad. I can't see me ever trying to watch it again.

Sons of Anarchy is fantastic
Lie to Me is alright, Tim Roth is great in it everything else was a little cheesy to I dropped it last season
The wife and I watched FlashForward last night. I thought it was really good, and I like the potential that the show has in terms of storytelling. I'm thinking this is going to be another 24-esque show, and I'm confident that David Goyer and company can deliver. I'm really glad we DVRed it.

I thought it was a decent opener. The first twenty or so minutes really hooks you in this universe. Love the special effects with the destruction and how crazy the area was when it was happening.
My problem is, once we get into the meat of the episode, how on earth are they going to carry this for over a season? You could totally end this within a season so there has to be another hook to keep it going. I mean if they try and keep this series going after they find out who is responsible and why; it's gonna be tough to warrent another season.
But I'm probably thinking a bit too far with this. The effects (again) were great, the actors were good for the most part, and the premise is definitely original. Also why didn't anyone say Seth MacFarland was going to be apart of this show? Super cool.
deadspace
09-27-2009, 04:15 PM
It's not really that original. Lost already did consciousness jumping and "can you change the future?". It's like they took those parts from Lost and made an entire show out of the idea. I'm not saying that's bad though. I think it's a great idea to explore and I think the moral issues they're going to touch upon (ie if you can change the future - should you? if you can change something so that your life ends up better but you know it will impact negatively upon someone else's future would you do it?). That's probably the angle I'm most looking forward to rather than who did it and why. I really really enjoyed the 1st episode. Possibly the best pilot I've seen since Lost (and I'm a total Lost geek - best show ever yadda yadda).

They don't necessarily have to solve the mystery in the first season. There's definite ways to keep this going. If they do solve the mystery, the next season could still deal with the events set into motion from the first season. This should be good, but who knows? There's other TV shows out there that take a dive after a strong opening.

Well how about this. Once we get into the time everyone all saw when passed out (April 29th, 2010) what do we do after that? Unless something major happens, which I'm sure they plan something for after that date, then it could end it's first season on a fizz. Still I'm probably thinking too far on this idea.

I think there is a lot to explore here. Who did this? Why did they do it? How did they do it? How do we stop them from doing it again? I'm sure this has been thought out. if you could see where the show was going after one episode, what would be the point of watching? I think this is the kind of show that will keep you guessing. I enjoyed the pilot. I didn't think the characters were as engaging as on most shows, but this is the type of show i would be watching more for the plot than the characters anyway, so it didn't really bother me.

Really loved the first season of Sons of Anarchy - only the end was a bit to harsh for my taste. Seems like the 2nd season blows into the same horn, but I ll still be watchin it I guess.
Enjoyed first season Lie to me, too. Nice round characters and good potential for conflict.
Glee is fun. It's kinda High School Musical meets Friday Night Lights (without the sports). Dunno - I enjoyed it so far, my girlfriend was irritated by the singin and dancin (not me - the actors).

What do you watch now? I enjoy both Lie to Me and Glee. Tim Roth is great, as usual. I even like the rest of the cast. granted, none of them have his charisma, but then again, it's his show, not an ensemble piece, so it's fine that he definitely takes center stage. it's the same thing with House, where Hugh Laurie shines much brighter than the (also talented) cast.
I'm one episode away from finishing the first season of Mad Men. I've been hearing all the rave reviews for this show, and the iFanboy crew seems to love it, so I figured I'd give it a go since I'm on vacation this week. it's so captivating i ended up watching the entire season in the span of 3 days and have Season 2 coming on Tuesday. If the 2nd season is as good as the first, this really is the best show on TV. I'm just angry i didn't get into it before Season 3 was almost over! Now I'll have to wait until July of 2010 to get season 3 on Blu-ray and hopefully catch up before Season 4 premieres.

At the moment I'm watching Flash Forward, Lie To Me, Glee, Grey's Anatomy... umm, I think that's it. Lost when it comes back on. I've tried to get into Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy and Community but no joy. Fringe was one of my worst tv experiences ever. Dollhouse seemed meh. I'm not really into sitcoms/comedies either. Really liked Life. Watched the first 3 episodes of Breaking Bad and enjoyed them but haven't watched more yet. Bones didn't hold my attention. I've an episode of Flashpoint to try out. No idea if it's any good. I actually quite liked Brothers And Sisters but I feel way too far behind with that to catch up now.
A month ago I watched no tv at all other than Lost (which is the best thing ever shown on tv. I'm one of the Lost geeks that hangs out on Lost forums discussing the science of time travel and electromagnetism and reading wacky theories and looking at tonnes of screencaps taken by people even more obsessed than me showing loads of easter eggs and getting blown away by the detail being put into the show).
So... I'm not looking for anything like Lost cos it doesn't exist. :D Something more like Lie To Me. It and Flash Forward are probably my 2 favourite shows right now. Is there anything I'm missing? Yeah, I tried getting into Fringe, Dollhouse, and Sons of Anarchy but they didn't appeal to me at all. I like Community though. Basically mentalist is like Psych (which I btw like very much) on crack.

Oops. Just saw it and yep. Totally wrong thread. :( Dunno why that happened. Ok. Good series. Well... let's see.
I am generally a sucker for everything crime. Pop in a few interesting characters, some whitty banter between them, one or two love triangles and I am happy.
Bones - I am generally a sucker for everything crime. Pop in a few interesting characters, some whitty banter between them, one or two love triangles and I am happy. Emily Dechanel and David Boreanas (hundred percent sure misspelled) make a nice team and the sidecast makes for a few interesting fillers. Season 5 running atm.
Burn Notice - A bit of MacGyver and A-Team paired with spy anecdotes in a Miami setting. Midseason Break of Season 3 atm.
Chuck - Spy Comedy with a lovely main actress and a really sympathetic main actor. Season 2 over, waiting on 3rd one.
Criminal Minds - A team of Agents hunting down serial killers. The team is quite appealing, but all in all it's the serial killer cases that make me watch the show. There's no real mainplot I guess - which made it much more fun watching it from midseason 4 and seeing it backwards (episodewise). :)
Dark Blue - Deep down undercover cops... and I am still not sure if this is any good. First season, paused atm. It's kinda dark and gritty. A bit like Sons of Anarchy that way. The main plot / conflicts really do it.
Dexter - Apart from the first one every other season started pretty slow and I wasn't sure, if I would keep bein interested in it, but - they all got addictin pretty fast. If you haven't - watch it. Oh and... it's about a sociopathic killer. :)
Entourage - I don't know what it is about this comedy series, but I just love it. A few Hollywood friends... on their way through... bein - I don't know. It's 20 mins per episode. Just watch one or two and maybe you'll get hooked. Midseason break atm, season 6.
How I met your mother - Comedy again. I guess it's Alyson Hannigan for which I had the hots since... always? And all in all it's not about how anybody met anybodies mother. I recently read an article that stated HImyM is the Friends of this time - and yep. That's about it.
Hustle - If you can get around a british accent, watch it. Really. I so bloody love this show. 5 Seasons a 6 Episodes have been released so far and it's just awesome. A group of Long con artists (much like the Oceans stuff) con their way through London. Love it.
Leverage - Sometimes a bunch of criminals make the best good guys. The "we help innocents" principle, played with a band of criminals. You got the break and entry specialist, the fixer, the grifter, etc etc - everything you need for a good coup. Got a little weak the last Seasons start, but if you got some time, like Mission Impossible and Plot Twists, give it a try
Supernatural - Just recently finished watching the whole show (currently in Season 5) and the development is great. Starting out as two brothers looking for their father and killing the Ghost/Monster/Whatever of the week the plot changes into a whole new dimension when Demons, Angels and finally Lucifer and God get into the Game. If you like Mystery / mild Horror and a strong main plot presented by two really well played main characters and a nice side cast - go for it.
True Blood - Thank god this is no Twilight. Yes, it got Vampires in it - and the whole world knows they exist, but this series got something for everyone. Romance, Crime, mild Horror, Mystery. And main actress Anna Paquin (Rogue from the X-Men Movies) really does a good job in playing Sookie Steakhouse, a mindreading girl that gets drawn into a World of Darkness. I just have to keep myself from falling in to South States accent every time after watchin this show. :)
I guess that's bout it. I made it quite short and didn't recommend a lot of series I like but wouldn't actually call that good.
Btw: NCIS? Anybody watching this? Heard it's solid crimestuff.

I just powered through the first 3 seasons of Supernatural. I was pleasently surprise. I thought the cheesecake would be massive similar to Smallville. No, I don't hate Smallville. I watch it every Thursday (er, Friday now). Anyway, even though the 2nd season starts alot of the largely comedy filler episodes, its very entertaining if you can turn off your reality meter in your brain. So if you like to pick apart stuff stay away. I'm going to run through 4th season so I can be up to date with 5th and possible final season of this missed show.

I just watched the third episode of FlashForward today, and felt it was the weakest episode of the bunch so far. I have to say that I'm enjoying the show still, and the sense of doom and character driven moments are nice. I think this will continue to get better as the season goes on.

Heh, Flashforward with nazis and dead crows. Iiiiiiinteresting. I thought episode 3 was better than 2 though. Overall it's pretty good and I'm still interested in where the story might go. It might be a bit early but I think I can say with confidence now that it's not the new Lost.
I got round to watching the first episode of Dark Blue - I liked it - will watch more.
Oh, and a comedy I actually like and find funny - MODERN FAMILY! Seriously, rarely does a comedy make me laugh. I've tried Sunny, How I Met Your Mother (really didn't like this one) and obvious stuff like Family Guy. My sense of humour is just so... I dunno... either near to non-existant or not mainstream (whatever that means). But Modern Family is fantastic.
Do you american people ever get Little Britain aired? That was comedy genius for me. Or Catherine Tate?

I gave Bones a little (very little) try but at the start of the episode I watched they were investigating a murder of someone who had been run over and they said something like "our computer shows that by the angle of the marks and the breaking of the bones the car must have been one of these..." and pulled up a pile of different cars. I felt myself really not caring about it at all. I'm guessing the series is like "the stab marks on the bones show the knife was...." and that kind of thing? It just struck me as very meh. But I've little patience and a short attention span.

My new favorite T.V show has to be, and I never thought I'd say this about this franchise, Stargate Universe. This show actually has character moments and the great Robert Carlyle. Anyone else here watch the first episode?
I just got done catching up on my TV. I watched the latest episode of FlashForward and V.
Last week's episode of FlashForward was pretty rocking, and I loved the way that the episode ended. I'm glad to see that the writers are able to keep show fresh without bogging it down, and each episode seems to add just enough to keep you interested without giving away anything. Good stuff all around.
V's premiere was pretty good. The episode felt a little bit uneven, but I think there are some interesting things at work. The final 15 minutes definitely piqued my curiosity. I'll DVR the next one, but if the weaknesses of the show persist, I may drop it from my rotation.

"V" is ok so far. Watched the first two episodes. Are the going with an anti-Obama message here? They mock 'hope' and 'change'. The visitors are also going to bring 'universal healthcare'. Oooh, evil!
I'll continue watching it if they keep the political propaganda out of it.
Flashforward - Only watched the pilot. It has promise. Will check out more.
But don't you get the sense that all of these ABC 'mystery' shows are just trying to be 'Lost'...but just can't get to that level?

I'm really only following 4 shows on TV right now, and one of them's really close to getting the axe.
Flash Forward - so awesome. I think the episode before this one really cemented it as a good show in my eyes. My only issue is with the acting of the main character (Mark, I think his name is... everyone else covers for him so I'm cool with it for now)
House - still watching it, it's alright I guess, I would've liked a whole season in the mental hospital but whatever
How I Met Your Mother - funniest show on TV, that's really all I need to say about it
Glee - here's the thing... I really like the music for this, there has yet to be a bad song (in my opinion), I just really don't care anymore. Also, it sort of makes me sad every time I watch it since I don't get to perform anymore, so I think I'll just stick to the music bits for now.

Which show is close to getting the axe?
