Cool, I will probably get this for the gf for her birthday as she normally enjoys these type of games. Any sports games that are really interactive that are worth the money? Any shooting games that are worthwhile?

Zelda is a must own.
Zack and Wiki is a great game, and criminally over-looked.
Resident Evil 4 is the best shooter, Metroid Prime 3 is good too.
Most sports games on Wii are pretty bad, but I heard Tiger Woods is solid.

I just beat Prince of Persia. Took about four sittings, which isn't bad. And if you're an Achievement/Trophy whore (which I'm really not) it does have some moderate replay value. It's probably the best installment of the franchise, even though the combat could be better. It's pretty scarce and kind of simple. If it had happened more often and been a little more like The Warrior Within, the game would have been aces.

Prince of Persia and Fable 2 are going to be my next purchases.
I want Rock Band 2, but I'll probably wait until that Beatles disc comes out.
I'm just about done Fallout 3 which was great and have been playing some Left4Dead which is fun, but not that great since I usually play alone </3 and the real fun is had teaming up with friends over Xbox Live

Given the shortness of both games, you might want to get on one ASAP, play the shit out of it for a week, and then trade it in for the most you can get towards the other. I liked PoP, but I didn't think I was going to keep it, though with an inevitable sequel coming I kind of like having all volumes of these things laying around so I'll probably talk myself into it.

I always like to go back and play games again so I usually never trade anything in, plus it is almost always a big rip-off.

Wario Ware is the best game to play with the gf and/friends. Resident Evil is the best shooting game. I would bypass zelda because the first puzzle annoyed the hell out of me. Basically any game that is like Wii sports is a good game to get

So GameTrailers put down GTA4 as their game of the year. And that would be yet another place I lost a little respect for. So shoddy physics and a cover/combat system at least three years out of date aren't good enough to knock it down a peg? Because I sure think they are. I had fun with it of course. It's a fun game overall and beautiful to behold, but when 2/3rds of the gameplay mechanics are kind of shitty and it's getting GOTY accolades over stuff like MGS4, LBP, Fallout 3 and on and on, it's time to call shenanigans.

I think GTA4 is the game of the year because of the community that has evolved around it. The game play isn't much better that the earlier GTAs, but the multiplayer unlike any other game.

While I'm here, My early 2009 buy list (based on what we know/predict is coming out so far):
Exclusive:
InFamous
White Knight Chronicles
Killzone 2
God of War 3
Uncharted 2
Rachet & Clank title (I don't think it has a name yet)
Twisted Metal
Heavy Rain
Multi-platform:
Resident Evil 5
Batman: Arkham Asylum (hopefully it turns out as good as it looks)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
BioShock 2
Ghostbusters
Tekken 6
Final Fantasy XIII (though I understand rumors are of a Feb. 2010 release now. Way to go on going multi-platform Square Enix. You just added another half year to your time table on something already a year overdue. Ugh)
Undecided:
The Agency (possibly. I'm not a big MMO guy, but it looks fun as hell. Depends on what the monthly fee is).
DCU Online (see above)
L.A. Noire (trailers I've seen have been cool, but I need to get more idea on the story and what the gameplay is like).
And I thought my 12 purchases this past year were overwhelming. Ugh and double ugh...

Agreed. It was a fantastic game, lots of great design, and technically sound (for the most part), but it just wasn't enough to make it better than the things you've listed.
I haven't plotted my whole 2009, but with my wedding happening this summer, my spending on games is going way down. Some early things I'm looking forward to:
Skate 2
Street Fighter 4
Resident Evil 5
Madworld
House of the Dead: OVERKILL
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

Sadly, if anything ever changes on my anticipated list, it's that I get more than those I expected too. Out of all 15 "definite" titles I listed, the only one I may not get is Arkham Asylum. I'm going in good faith on that one right now. Other than that, I'm pretty much set on buying everything I have marked down. Fucking ugh... :(
I never stick to my lists either, but I always make a "will buy, regardless of reviews" list. For this year, my early entrants are Street Fighter 4, Resident Evil 5, and MadWorld.

Here are my top 10 most anticipated games of 2009, please note that all of these games have been announced. This is an important distinction because, to be perfectly honest, my most anticipated game of 2009 is the currently unannounced project that Infinity Ward is toiling away on.
1. Heavy Rain
2. Bioshock 2
3. Dragon Age: Origins
4. Alan Wake
5. Halo 3: ODST
6. Uncharted 2
7. INfamous
8. Killzone 2
9. Alpha Protocol
10. MadWorld

Honestly, my hope is that Infinity Ward is working on a new IP. Activision will destroy the CoD brand if they put one out every single year.
So, I'm finally home and tonight I'm going to be investing my Xbox and Wii points into the The World of Goo and Super Street Fighter II HD Remix. Can't wait.

IW is definitely working on a new game.
Also, Activision can keep putting out as many COD games as they want just as long as the quality stays where it is. The only COD game that has even remotely dissapointed me is COD3, World At War was quite good and whatever IW touches is gold.
Plus, I'm a sucker for war-FPS's
So, Super Street Fighter II HD Remix is 1200 points. That's a lot of dough. I'm not sure if I want to spend the money on it.

Loved the podcast, hated EGM so bad that even when I was getting it for free for a while I called them up and told them to stop sending it to me. But I haven't looked at one in something like three years, so obviously it could have gotten better.
It's showing of the times with what happened to the 1up staff. I truly loved the podcasts that they put together. Hopefully, those guys will land jobs in the field so they can continue doing what they love. And hopefully, the capital was in place so that they could have a severance package. Getting fired suddenly like that without it sucks hardcore style.

Not a big fan of Nick Suttner, i didn't like that guy very much but it still sucks he lost his job. Six recommended the 1up podcasts when i first joined this board and i've loved them ever since, i really do hope they keep them up. As for EGM, i haven't read gaming mags since the internet really took off, why pay for something that i can basically get for free (plus, in some cases, the pictures actually MOVE!). but out of all the magazines, i did enjoy EGM the most, it was always a fun read and im sad to see it go

If you're in need of some 1up Replacement podcasts I have two awesome suggestions.
1. Gamers with Jobs- This podcast is the ifanboy of videogames. Their formats are almost identical and their site is also the videogame equivalent to ur favorite comic cast.
2. Giant Bomb- Giant Bomb is basically 1up Yours with a bit of 1up FM thrown in.
So, I've been playing through Mirror's Edge the last few days. It's a pretty interesting game, and its design is excellent. There are some flaws here, but in terms of total FPS immersion, this title nails it.
My hope is to beat it before I have to return it to my job, which I think will happen because 3 hours of gameplay and I'm already to mission 6.

Well there was owning the spot where you take turns hitting the same area to see who can get more points. There was also races and other point/trick based modes. I just wanted a fun free skate where me and some buddies could just cruise the streets and BS while we hit some tricks. It was just too laggy for me though.

Does it only happen in GoW2? If it does, it's probably something with that game and not XBL. I don't do a lot of party chats, so I don't know for sure. My experience in playing GoW2 online is that the game is broken as hell online, so....

No it happens in whatever game I play. Its just the new party chat option they added with NXE drops people randomly. Gets frustrating considering it is a great feature that I like to use often.
Anyone play the Skate 2 demo yet? I have been busy so I still havent had a chance.
I just finished Mirror's Edge. It was an interesting game. I really liked the immersion and the different mechanics for getting around the environments. I especially enjoyed the way the game made you think about the environments, looking for places to jump and cling to.
That said, the combat is HORRIBLE, and the fact that the game has designed specific parts where you have to use it is a serious knock. It would have been better if there was always an option for circumventing the fighting.
Next up is the Skate 2 Demo. As to when that will be played, no one may never know.

Afro Samurai looks interesting, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it will probably be solid but not memorable. Like DBZ and Naturo games, I'm thinking its for fans only.
Luckily, I'm a fan. :)

Played the Skate 2 demo and it is what I would have expected. Unfortunately the demo is timed for 7 minutes. The in game graphics do look more refined, but the cut scenes actually look worse to me. Good thing that isnt important to this game. I am very excited to get a hold of the full version.

So, I'm hoping some of the people here can help me.
After my initial 2 games on Fallout 3, I'm going to start doing themes. The first of which is: Batman.
I've been throwing builds around in my head, and right now I'm thinking this might be good:
Strength: 5
Perception: 8
Endurance: 5
Charisma: 6
Intelligence: 7
Agility: 6
Luck: 3
GOAT: Sneak, Melee, Speech.
Perks:
Lvl 2: Intense Training
Lvl 3: Thief
Lvl 4: Child at Heart
Lvl 5: Iron Fist
Lvl 6: Toughness
Lvl 7: Iron Fist
Lvl 8: Strong Back
Lvl 9: Iron Fist
Lvl 10: Night Person
Lvl 11: Finesse
Lvl 12: Silent Running
Lvl 13: Strong Back
Lvl 14: Cyborg
Lvl 15: Adamantium Skeleton
Lvl 16: Better Criticals
Lvl 17: Light Step
Lvl 18: Paralyzing Palm
Lvl 19: Daddy's Boy
Lvl 20: Ninja
Keep in mind that I'm going for a mix of theme and usefulness, so I realize that some of these might not be the best choices, and some others might not fit the theme exactly. I'm probably going to be going for unarmed/melee/explosives, etc., and I'm not going to use any guns (or at least try not to).
How does that sound? Have any of you done theme characters?

Y'know, anyone that knows me knows that I don't really get excited about FPSs. Sure, they're fun, and can occasionally be nail biting like COD4 was, but for the most part I think they're alright games. If you want to get me to care about a shooter, really you need to give me one that's more an RPG but that just uses the First Person perspective as a means more than the way, like BioShock or Fallout 3. But, all that said, GODDAMMIT I WANT TO PLAY KILLZONE 2!! Fuck that game looks gorgeous! And I doubt it'll be any sort of improvement on the genre. I'm sure it'll be just as fun as, say, paying Resistance 2... BUT IT LOOKS FUCKING AMAZING!... I'm so weak... :(

I've never played it, but I don't usually find games that get universal 8's across the board to be containing material that's terribly "revolutionary"... though I'm also usually of the opinion that if you want to make a FPS "revolutionary" you make it either a third person game or an RPG like Bioshock or Fallout 3... :)

The structure of the game is pretty revolutionary for an FPS. It's not driven from point A to B. It's an open world structure. I haven't spent too much time with the game to get all dough eyed at it, but it is a damn refreshing experience for an FPS nut like me.

It's a really revolutionary game, but it fails to do certain little things that would have made it pretty much untouchable as far as reviews go.
I'm about five hours in right now though, so my opinion may not be completely valid as of yet.

Since the Skate 2 demo doesnt have time restrictions on multiplayer I have been having some fun with it. My friends and I really like the Hall of Meat game where you try to damage your character as much as possible. The only issue is that the characters can glitch out and drive the score through the roof. Hope that gets fixed before the final version is released.

The new DSi has a few things that make it a better product than th DSLite. 3 inches of added screen space, more internal memory, SD card slot, two cameras and an added media player. No need for Moonshell homebrew anymore.
The DSi is everything the DSLite was done better. If you don't already own a DS, I get the DSi. The DS is actually a very good system.

Funny you should say that I just sold it. It was fun but didnt have the staying power of CoD4.
It is CoD4, except I'm shooting Japanese soldiers. There's just nothing exciting about it and nothing fresh (although the flame thrower stuff can be pretty cool). Also, in this day in age, is it possible to program computer A.I. that stays the hell out of the way?
Also, I'm getting a bit sick of CoD's difficulty coming not from the improved skil of their A.I., but it's massive and constant stream of bodies. I stood in one spot and killed a 1000 soldiers because I didn't get across the "trigger" to end the enemy spawn. Major lameness for a modern game. (And it was in CoD4, which I griped about when that game came out...).
While I'm thinking of it, I wanted to add some quick thoughts about Far Cry 2:
The Good: The games overall aesthetic and set up is revolutionary. Who knew an open ended FPS could be so much fun? I loved the choices given to me, the openess of the mission structure and how the game completely immerses you in the world itself. The engine is gorgeous and the controls are pretty nice.
The Bad: The random enemy spawns while you're driving are flippin' annoying, and to that end, it's annoying as fuck to have to drive everywhere. This game would have benefitted from a jump system (ala Fallout 3) or at least a way to get across the regions of the maps faster. The shooting in the game is pretty tight, but weapons just don't feel very powerful, and for a game that's trying to provide realism, it's pretty dumb to have to shoot somebody 7-8 times to get them to drop. While I loved the way the weapons are earned/purchased, I never found much better about one weapon over the other, which makes earning the weapons a bit silly. Also, respawns at areas that I've already cleared out brings the game to a halt, especially when they're areas that you have to drive through.
Overall, it is a really solid title, and I enjoyed myself a lot while playing it. I think if they can improve on the things I've listed in my bad column, they would have a crazy awesome game on their hands with the next one. The possibilities are exciting.
I finished CoD: World at War tonight. It was a whole bag of 'meh' and I felt it was very overrated by the press (at least from the single player perspective).
The game was glitchy, the A.I. is spotty at best, and the constant stream of enemies is pretty freakin' annoying. Also, it's CoD4 in WWII. Major lameness. That said, the game is purty, and the controls are tight.
This series needs a shot in the arm. Here's hoping Infinity Ward's next project does just that.

I disagree. The game isn't great, but the few hours that it lasts were pretty enjoyable, the equivalent of a mindless action movie like Transporter. Of course I was disappointed in light of COD 4's awesomeness, but judging the game on its own merits, World At War is on par with a game like Bad Company IMHO.

It just didn't speak to me. If I'd of reviewed it, it was a strong 7. It's a completely competent game, and one of the better FPSs out there. It, however, was not engaging, refreshing, or all that entertaining.
For me, Battlefield was superior because I enjoyed the MP more, but when the single player is compared, I agree with you.
I haven't had a chance to get my skate on because I checked out Prince of Persia from work, and it sure is a fun game. I've really been enjoying it. I probably will wait for a price drop before I pick it up, but this is definitely a game I will buy.

I agree with the clipping, but the only control issue I have had is when I get off of the board. If you get a chance Neb check out my vids, I really enjoy that feature it is so fun making a 90sec skate vid.
Hall of meat is definitely fun (even my fiance can play and win it - she is xbox challenged) I have an issue with the scoring. I feel like some bails look 10x worse than others but only get half of the points. Also there is some glitchy-ness after you stop moving where your character can twitch and rack up some serious points. All and all it is the best skateboarding game until Skate 3.

Nothing... NOTHING! Will beat the first THUG. Ever. The perfect amount of challenging (maybe even a little too difficult), slightly over the top scoring and multiplier system, very innovative with the additions to keep the combo system going, and it was before they started all the Jackass influenced bullshit that started the decline of that series. Great level design too. Man that game was awesome. They need to forget everything they've been doing for half a decade now and go back to that one.

It's probably the reverse of why I can't get into Skate. I loved the over the top comboing and all the thumb blisters that would come with it. I loved the frustration of trying to land a million point trick and was proud as shit that my sense of timing and fast fingers would enable me to hit multipliers that were sometimes over 100x's. The thing about Skate, and mind you I don't think it's a bad game or anything, is that quite frankly, if I want to go through the trials and tribulations of hitting these moves, I'll go outside and try and fail at an Ollie Kickflip. If I wanted to get good at hitting these things, I'd be a damn skater. I play(ed) the Tony games because it was more video game than "skating simulator". It's the same reason I don't get into most sports games. If I want to play football or something, I'm more inclined to get 9 people together and go play some damned football than anything, instead of sitting in front of my teley playing simulated football. Just how I roll...

I love Bam, but that's definitely when that series took a huge slide is when they let Jackass type stuff influence it WAY too much. That's why I like the first THUG so much. The levels were huge and had some great variety, the scoring was toned down a bit from TH4 to the point where hitting a million point trick was actually nothing to sneeze at again, and it had fun objectives and some challenging Sick Scores.

No. It's merely an expansion that explains the background behind the nuclear war. On the plus side, it does have a new perk, a bunch of new weapons, and new armor that can be used in the game itself.

I cant stop playing the game!!! It's just so good! I mean the graphics and NPC AI is still pretty piss poor, but I cant help it!!!

Is it possible that you couldn’t see the forest for the trees?
Videogames are holistic experiences. I cannot tell you how many times I have written a scathing review on a game, one in which I butcher the title on its many flaws, game that I actually love. But when I read the review, I have to just scrap it and redo the whole thing.

I still stand by my review though.
The NPC AI is piss poor, the graphics are clunky even if it is beautiful, the game has froze and crash on me several times, overall the leveling is poor and it should be hire then 20. I know they are raising it on a DLC but damnit it they should've realized how easy it was to get to 20.
But I keep playing this.....it sucked me in and I just cant stop.....oh god I've become everything I've hated!!! *cries*
I just beat Operation: Anchorage for Fallout 3, and it was a blast. I had a great time with it and it was definitely worth the Microsoft points. Also, it adds a new weapon and a crazy awesome new armor set for the game. Of course, there's nothing to repair these things with (or at least I haven't found anything yet). I'm stoked for the next two packs in February and March.

Drakensang is at the top of my radar now. For all you RPG I'd definitely recommend checking this one out...a huge hit in Germany when it came out last year and the previews for the US version have been glowing too.
They have a demo up on their site, which is definitely worth playing:

Random video game question:
Do we know for sure if Ultimate Alliance 2 will be coming out on the PSP? It's listed on the available consoles on GapeSpot and the like, but I've also seen some conflicting reports, and the PSP support for the original game has dried up since the PSP version was discontinued.

From what I understand, its going to be on the PSP. It may not come out as a mirror of the consoles though as they may tweak it in some way. If I remember correctly, the PS3/360 versions are going to be different from the Wii one, which is probably what will make it onto the PSP.
I could be/probably am completely wrong though.

Okay, I finally DLed the RE5 Demo and played this to see if the gripes ppl were having with it were baseless or not and... fucking ow. My head fucking hurts from all the viewpoint shifting and having to jerk around so much to take down targets. I think I know what an epileptic feels like now. And that, that kind of scares me. Maybe I'll get used to it, and it IS just a demo, but shit. I spent half the time feeling like I was fighting the controls to twist around, aim, shoot, repeat. That is not a good sign.
And yes, you can now put me firmly in the category of peeps that, despite not minding it when RE4 came out, can't grasp the stupidity of not even being able to walk forward with a weapon out and slash someone with a knife and back off. Sigh, at least Sheva wasn't that bad. In fact, quite Johnny on the Spot with healing items and going out into the fray to grab items and ammo on the ground. But this, this doesn't really fill me with excitement. In fact, it's definitely more of the opposite.

After playing something as elegant as Dead Space, it does make RE5 feel a little bit like a dinosaur. That said, I've read that there are supposed to be two different control schemes in the final build, so hopefully one of those will be better.

Oh no, I'm not talking about the control scheme itself. There's four in the demo, including RE4's, and those are pretty standard now. It's not the controls themselves, it's the overall mechanics. The controls are still base Hold a button to draw, press this to shoot, this to reload etc etc. Fairly basic now because RE4 set the standard for modern controls if you ask me. The problem is, they're too slow for the kind of game that RE5 has become. There's way more enemies now, they're much more vicious, and the inability for me to back away while I take shots at them is, well, inexcusable. Like you said, Dead Space took their controls and modernized them to where they needed to and should be. RE5 is about two years out of date. Add to that it felt like I was fighting with the camera to get a bead on exactly what all was coming at me, and it really just gave me a headache and made me feel a little helpless, and not in the good say that a Survival Horror game would. But that's the thing, obviously RE5 isn't Survival Horror anymore, it's an action game with horror elements. I have a feeling I'll overall enjoy the final product, but I don't see this finding it's way into my Top 5 of the year or anything. But maybe the storyline will be just that amazing. Guess we'll see in a month...

You bring up good points here, and this touches a lot of the concerns some journalists have had with the early builds of the game. I'm going to definitely buy it, but it will be interesting to see how much I like it in comparison to a game like Dead Space. I fucking loved that game.
Did anybody else download the Halo Wars demo? I thought it was pretty good, but RTSs on consoles just don't work. From what I've played of the demo, it seems Ensemble has made the best console RTS, though, I don't think its saying much. The CG is pretty awesome, and the mechanics are solid. I just don't know how much fun its going to be when the battles get really complex. We'll see...

Dead Space I now have a love hate relationship with. I loved it for the first 6 chapters. I liked the atmosphere, the updated progression of the control scheme that they took from RE4, and loved what they did with the no HUD. But by chapter six, I started to not want to bother to turn on the game anymore because I got sick of the basically repetitive nature of the missions. This has gone wrong now, so go here, get this part, now get this part, now go fix this, and along the way we'll throw 2-3 killzones at you designed to test your patience and ammo supply. Lather, rinse repeat. I made it to Chapter 8 before Fallout 3 came out and I started playing that instead, and now I just don't ever feel like putting it back in because I know as soon as I start, I'm back in the middle of another "fetch this and fix this" mission. It's like Assassin's Creed to me now. Some great mechanics and smooth controls, but I feel like I've been playing the same mission for eight hours now. Add in that I asked my buddy who did beat it what happened, and before he explained it to me, I pretty much guessed everything, which was depressing, but not unexpected.
I think I'll end up rating RE5 about where I put Dead Space, which is around an 8.5. For everything DS did right gameplay wise, they failed for me in level and story execution, and I have a feeling RE5 will be the opposite. I'm going to begrudgingly trudge through some shitty controls, but the story twists and turns and scenarios they'll undoubtedly come up with will probably bring it back up to an overall positive experience for me.
Right now, I'm just glad to have stuff to be playing considering this is usually the dead period for games, but I'm still looking forward most to what I was at the beginning of the year: InFamous and Uncharted 2 and now Killzone 2 (fuck was that demo impressive).

Your criticisms of Dead Space are spot on, but I guess I was so sucked into the atmosphere, the world itself, and the smooth gameplay that I didn't mind the repetitive structure of the game. I actually appreciated that it was longer than 4 or 5 hours.

Alright. Here is my opinion of Mirror's Edge:
This game is a masterpiece. I love it to death. I see the gripes that a lot of the reviews had with it, but if you're playing for 45-60 mins at a time and not trying to marathon a play-through for a review, the flaws are easily disregarded.

I agree with you.. the game isn't fully baked, but what it does is so remarkable, that I gave it a pass on those things.
I just got done checking out the Tom Clancy's HAWX demo. It's not too bad. The graphics engine is amazing though. It not only does a regular flight game, but then it allows you to pull the camera out all the way to get a perspective of all the combat in real time. It's pretty amazing. The controls are pretty good too. I just wish there was a way to keep the game automatically locking on to enemy targets. If you're a fan of flight games, this may be up your alley.

I just played Fallout 3 for a little while. Colored me unimpressed so far. It looks like they took Oblivion, slapped a new coat of paint, and sent it out the door.
I haven't played too much, so I may still be swayed. I did enjoy oblivion. The only annoying thing I can say is that I really have problems seeing stuff in the game because of the colors. As soon as you're out of the fault everything is brown or at least all my eyes see is shades of brown.
I also got Left 4 Dead, I have yet to play it as I've been playing all sorts of other stuff at the moment.

I downloaded Flower today, hopefully that will get me through a week, then it's just six days til I'll get my shooter fix in for the year.

Fallout 3 is far superior to Obilivion. It's missions are way more complex and its world is far more rich. Give it some time to grow on you, then be ready to lose 60 hours of your life.

Browsing the Best Buy site it looks like you can get a Samsung LCD at 46" for $1199. 3 HDMI's, 1080p of course, and a pretty high contrast ratio. It's not 120 Hertz, but that's mainly for sports watching in HD, not gaming.
Humphrey's got it. You just want to make sure that you get a 1080p compatible TV for your PS3. Just make sure you invest in a quality, name brand. A lot of the cheaper TVs are cheaper for a reason.
The wooden cellar doors shake violently and are thrown open, shattering the rusty chain and lock that for so long had performed their duty so diligently. Smelling like piss, feces, and leftover pizza, a malnourished and fully bearded MK emerges from the depths hunched over from months of bad posture. He rubs his blood-red eyes, squinting hard from a painful reintroduction to direct sunlight. MK looks around at the frozen yard and silent house looming above him. Clearly not surprised at the absence of sight or sound of any family members, he shrugs and scratches his ass, knowing they likely left him to rot with his PC months ago.
His right hand, ruined by hours upon hours of incessant clicking, twitches as it reaches into a black book bag and produces boxed copies of the World of Warcraft Battle Chest and Wrath of the Lich King expansion. MK throws the games to the ground and spits on them as he rummages through the book bag for a book of matches. He inserts strategy guides, spreadsheets, raid schedules and gear calculations as kindling and sets the last half of his 2008 ablaze, warming his hands, clearly relieved that the nightmare is finally over.
He shuffles off to get his life back in order and more importantly find something else to play.
:)
Ha! Welcome back to the real world. :)

Ok well I got to play about four hours of Street Fighter 4 and it is pretty amazing. I am definitely not a fighting game guy anymore so I will not be purchasing it. Although I will take every chance I can to play it with my bros. The graphics are gorgeous and the animations fluid. The moves are easy to pull off without losing the depth of play. I've played the beta test for DoW2, and i didn't like it. Half way through every game I played i just turned the game off, because I wasn't having fun. I might try the campaign when my brother gets the game.
For some reason the only RTS games i like are warcraft 3, and starcraft.

Well, I have a Dell, which means I can't really add any real horsepower to it to play games. When I had DoW, I had a graphics card in it that was actually capatible with the chipset, but it died after like two years. I play too many console games to justify replacing it.
I'll just live vicariously though you, taking the stories you share here as my own. That's not creepy or anything...
Alright, I have a gripe about Street Fighter 4. I love this game, but I'll be damned if the final boss is next to IMPOSSIBLE. Now, I'm a little rusty, but even on easy, I couldn't beat him with my best player. I seriously played about 50 times, and I'm surpressing hulk like rage to keep my heart from exploding. Damn Capcom for making such an infuriating boss that pretty much ruins the arcade mode of the game for me. Bah!!

I remember X-Play did a whole segment on the final boss of Dead or Alive 3 and how much of a bastard the company was for that boss.
I'm sure the boss as a playable character sucks right? That's what I hate the most. You take 50 tries to beat the boss (and get him to play as) and his moveset is just a copy of someone else.

I agree wholeheartedly. Seth is a cock sucker. Me and a friend traded off and managed to get to Seth on Medium but everytime he would teleport to miss supers/ultras, grab you in the middle of a combo. It is just so frustrating. Neb if you thought that was bad wait until you try and get Akuma and Gouken.

I think SF4 is too easy. I feel there are much deeper concerns re: Geif and Sagat at tournament level of play.
Seth is no problem if you play aggressively outside the corner. Turtle in the pocket and unload with an Ultra or hard counter vs. Seth.

Take my SF4 criticism as you will. I take the Street Fighter series very seriously and am only concerned with tournament level play.

Darkstalkers definitely (update those frickin' sprites though), but if were talking reviving Capcom franchises I'd love to see Strider 3, still in 2D with really nice, detailed, HD sprites.
That and I really want Capcom to get a hold of the Marvel license again and give us Marvel vs Capcom 3. Though if they do they need to keep whoever did the music for MvC2 AWAY from it.

Have you played/seen the "Accurate Mix" version of the game? Someone who hangs out at another forum I visit did a hack of the Dreamcast version of the game that replaces the in-game music with more appropriate tunes. He did the same for the Dreamcast versions of Street Fighter III: Third Strike and Capcom vs SNK 2.
Here's a vid of the MvC2 Accurate Mix in action:

This vid shows off the music choices a bit better, showing a few different levels. Apparently it's not up on Youtube.

Browsing the Best Buy site it looks like you can get a Samsung LCD at 46" for $1199. 3 HDMI's, 1080p of course, and a pretty high contrast ratio. It's not 120 Hertz, but that's mainly for sports watching in HD, not gaming.

Don't judge until you've played Seth. He's a rotten bastard. And Crimson Viper doesn't have a good "jumping into hit the opponent" attack. She's a very close quarters kind of gal, which makes fighting Seth difficult because his most powerful (and cheapest) attacks are close quarters.
Oh, and I suck with anyone except Ryu or Ken, and even then I'm still not great. I need more practice!

Whoa. This is surprising.
Gaming portal Steam is making wade of cash by copying content delivery models more traditionally used by software pirates, according to head steamer Gabe Newell. In his keynote speach at the Dice Summit, the Valve boss said that direct download services closed the distance between game creators and their audience and reduced losses to pirates. Unlike DRM copy protection that encouraged piracy, he added. Steam had created a succesful and lucrative business by working out that people who resorted to piracy did so mostly because traditional retailers were not serving them well. Newell said that the old way of reaching punters was dead and that Steam was trying to touch its customers every three weeks rather than every three months when a new game is released.
The service, which now has 20 milion registered users, has partnerships with every major PC game publisher and offers full game downloads as well additional content and services for more than 350 of the top PC games currently available. Where Steam makes its cash, is that each successive major update or special offer creates sales spikes for the original titles as new players are tempted on board. Every time a new update is announced for Team Fortress 2, sales of the original game spike by at least 100 per cent and Steam registrations have been known to go up by 71 per cent. And a recent half-price offer on Left 4 Dead led to an eye-watering 3,000 per cent uptake in sales. Any game exec out there who is pondering whether games are too expensive would be well placed taking a leaf out of Steam’s pricing policy. Newel reckons that the company has seen sales increase by 35 per cent with price cuts as small as ten per cent, whilst a 25 per cent cut can see the number of units shifted increase by 245 per cent.

Wrong system dude, I has PS3. And Yoshimitsu? Come on man, gotta do better than that. He's a poor matchup for King. All his moves drop him to the ground which means King's stagger kicks are the pwnzors. Man, I miss the days at college when I would play Tekken Tag at the arcade for 5 hours straight and would rack up 70+ wins in a row. Good times.

I can respect the block of wood, but that's only because back in the day I knew all the moves for pretty much every character (including at least one 10 hit combo) that wasn't Bruce because, well, he was terrible. Not saying the others were winners, but at least they had something going for them. Usually though, I just kind of hoped and prayed that Moku happened to be one of the, like, eight characters I was pretty much house with. If he wasn't, it was a crapshoot to say the least.

Now who wants to play Left 4 Dead?
I checked out the Watchmen game. It's...okay. As a brawler, it's pretty subpar and the camera is whack. The objectives and dialogue is soooo horrible.
BUT, it's still fairly entertaining, especially being able to knock the crap out of bad guys as the big R.
Not worth the $20 for sure, though.
Also played the Afro Samurai demo and it was okay. Has beautiful graphics but other than that, it's pretty standard. Nothing all that exciting.
