I so have to get back in shape. I have to spend a month traipsing around the Rockies this summer for my recently changed major (Fish and Wildlife Conservation Biology). Apparently I have to also make a resolution to not change my major again.
Oh, and I am going to order the Harry Potter books in Russian and read them. I have some more of the language to learn, but I figure I can start on the first book and I will be fine by the time I get to the end. I haven't read any of the books before so I don't really have something to compare them to, but that's okay with me.

Pat Hingle, the veteran character actor best remembered by fanboys as Gotham City's Commissioner Gordon in Tim Burton's Batman movie and its three sequels, has died. He was 84.
According to his family, Hingle suffered from myelodysplasia, a type of blood cancer, and passed away at his home Saturday night.

This year I really have to be more committed to the work I do. Like a lot of freelancers (or at least Remender and Sturges) I feel the need to say "yes" to any projects coming my way.
I end up saying yes so much that I over-commit and then I freeze, getting no work done which exacerbates the situation.
I need to budget my time better, and actually do more work, I could probably get about twice as much stuff done than I am now, earning (in theory) twice as much money.
Morning all.
One of those days already for me, my scraper broke on the frost on my windshield, so there I am with two halves of a scraper saying "Well what the hell do I do now?"
Luckily I was still the first one in the office, however the stress I felt made me realize I need a new job.
Heh heh I rule the forum this morning...slow day for me at work.

I wasn't sure quite where to post this, but I had a really cool comic-book experience this week.
As I mentioned elsewhere, I visited a friend at (the school I'll hopefully be at next year) Furman this week. While there, I saw three copies of Watchmen, two of V For Vendetta and one each of Persepolis and Maus. Each discovery led to a really great conversation about GN's in which I plugged Sleeper, Criminal, and Queen and Country heavily. It was just really great to see our beloved medium embraced by such awesome people outside of the ifanboy circle.

Gotta say I wish my library would get it together.
I browsed their archives a while back to see what kind of comics they had there (among other things). They seemed to have a pretty good collection. Except they have this nasty habit of having one (or multiple) volumes of a certain comic series, but not the first.
They randomly have the 4th volume of the Morrison run on Doom Patrol, numerous volumes of Hellboy but not the first.
Most annoying was Strangers in Paradise. They have volumes 10, 12 and 16 of the TPBs, but they also had the pocketbooks. Volumes 2-5. Why have the pocket books if you don't order the first and last volumes? More annoyingly, I tried to order the first volume of the pocket book, got a reply that a book I asked for came in... and it got this other volume of the early comics, so I was confused until I realized what happened.
This is especially annoying because their very good about keeping up with manga. One series had 18 straight volumes all in a row, nothing missing.
Ugh. It's tough trying to get into comics when you're broke all the time.

I've had more of problem with people getting bored and doodling in them. I just finished reading Leave in to Chance Vol. 1 by James Robinson. Pretty solid book. Shame someone felt the need to add googly eyes to anyone wearing glasses... you know, the kind when you can't see their eyes. Thankfully it wasn't too bad.
Worse was the Watchmen. Book was in okay condition, but there's was lots of stupid crap like people draw fart noises next to Dr. Manhattan, plus lots of things related to his nakedness. Plus drawing beards on Silk Spectre and large erections on Night Owl during the whole chapter when he and Silk Spectre sleep together. Lots of stupid garbage like that.

Nah, I doubt it. There are some books that I think this might be the case, but while most of the missing books are still listed in the directory (with MISSING or a huge due date that has long passed next to it), there are just a few random volumes of a series with no indicator that any of the prior issues were ever bought. This is annoying since Hellboy is a series I've really wanted to read, and they have a bunch of issues, but not Vol. 1. Strangers is another I've been interested in due to Ifanboy hype, but I want to read from the beginning.

Oh god dont get me started on stolen property, especially with Manga!
We have to put security tags on every single freaken book because people steal crap all the time. Surprisingly GN's dont get stolen, probably because they are 4x bigger then manga's. I should ask and see how much dollar wise of stolen magna has been taken. Shockingly; it's not Naruto books at all, some random shit.

I am so fed up with ordering from amazon. They do not package the books well enough for shipping via media mail. I always get my books with dented corners and ripped dust jackets. I am switching to IST exclusively, they are usually cheaper and even for the few books that are more expensive it is worth an extra dollar to know the package will be secure.

That's weird. I almost always use Amazon with the free shipping option and I've never had a problem. Maybe you are serviced by a crappy distribution center and I get the one where people take pride in their work?
Either that or I have just had some bad luck. I am very picky though especially with oversized HCs.
