So I'm one of those people with no HTML knowledge and no real desire to learn it. But I need to keep my site updated more frequently than the bi-yearly pace it's currently at.

I use iWeb which came with my Mac. It's great if you don't want to deal with any coding and are willing to adhere to some rather uninspiring templates. You can get some original layouts if you take the time preplanning around the restrictions. But the code is sloppy & slow if you tweak too much. Plus you have to upload the ENTIRE site if you change one thing.

I really only have 3 desires:
- Clean and easy navigation
- Ability for a thumbnail to high res image that doesn't open a new browser
- Easily add new images & descriptions with newest being first.

I did try SquareSpace when it was being promoted. And I did like it (enough to recommend it to others). But I couldn't seem to set it up like my current one, with the features I want. So here's a link to what I have now, and if anyone knows of SS pages that are similar let me know.

I'm pretty happy with my hosting & domain service (DirectNIC) so if I can stick with them then more the better.

I think would think so. You can in the very least make a site that looks just like the on you have now with SS. The only thing SS fails at is good user-interface for members (forums, etc.), but that's much harder to handle. Check my site below to see what I did with SS.

Your link isn't working. Says the web address can't be found?

lol. Figures NOW you guys chime in 4 months later.

It was down because I changed my hosting options with my domain provider so it directed to SS. By doing so it immediately deletes your content from their servers.

So for that small window it wasn't viewable. But now it's pointing to my site that I've built in SS! Like it was said, I was able to get close to the layout I had. The only thing I wish I could change is to make the galleries list left to right instead of one long column (like Photography is becoming). They said it's not possible w/out some custom coding.

But feel free to check it out. Still putting stuff up. In fact, the only reason I'm checking this thread now is because I'm looking at the tracking data for hits and it pointed here. lol.

You should probably have a basic understanding of HTML. It's really not that hard to learn. You can have a basic idea of it down in about half an hour.

Coding a site from the ground up doesn't sound like it's the right thing for you, but I think you would benefit from knowing a few basic things.

Just an idea.

By the way, have you checked out blogging platforms such as Wordpress or Blogger?

Wordpress has thousands of templates to choose from and is VERY simple to use. You can literally have a nice looking site up in just a few minutes.

xammp (http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html) will run on most any platform and is an easy way to experiment with html or the like. there is a free version of wordpress that you can use with xammp.

There about ten zillion open source blogging programs that ill work with xammp.
I have Mediawiki, wordpress, and habari set up on my server to play with.

I've been using the free trial to see if I can use squarespace to make a site for a business I have planned.

As someone who hasn't used html since about 2005, I really like it and will probably continue to use it.

Some of it is confusing for me since ive been out of the loop for a while but they have some real-time tutorial videos for making certain types of sites.

edit: i just realized how old this thread is, looks like you are already using squarespace
