***********Spoilers************

I have to admit I was a little disappointed. It was a great episode, but just that. There was nothing final about it. No one important died (at least not permanently), The city made it through in one piece and Earth was saved yet again. There's no reason why it couldn't have been a regular mid season episode. In fact, it they had extended it, it would have been an amazing mid season cliffhanger. IMO If they were going to end the series, they should have done it in such a way that the series couldn't continue.

I think I heard that they have the same movie type deal worked out for Atlantis as they did for SG-1, that's why they ended it like they did.

havent read the first post yet. Settling down with fire and wine and dinner first.

But just wanted to say that yes, they worked out a movie deal like SG-1. Stargate Universe starts in out with a 2 hour movie this summer, keep your eyes on http://www.gateworld.net/ .

Im stoked about universe. I dont know what to expect. Im really hoping they pull back from early atlantis, which was kinda like stargate lite for the mainstream and go a little more core. I think itll happen like that cause look how atlantis is ending. Im sure for me itll be good. I personally cant get enough of realistically portrayed future events. Like a imagining of what our real future could be like. Even if it does get a little out of hand in the at times. The ideas behind star trek and stargate to me really provide inspiration for sticking around and seeing what we get into.

I thought it was a fitting end to the TV series. I do though feel it needed to be a 2 hour movie, not a show cause a lot at the end felt rushed. It was like a event happened and boom its over, next scene. That happened on like 3 major points at the end and even the final scene when they are looking at that thing, it just felt rushed, like you didnt have enough time to take in what was really happening. A lot of epic stuff happened and it felt like " oh well such and such happens every week". Like when they went to get the thing that let the thing do its thing or how the thing got to where it needed to be at the end, those were all plot points worth indulging in. Sorry, i dont wanna spoil anything.

Over all it was a little underwhelming at the end, though the beginning was solid. But like i said, i feel it was a pretty good ending. Oddly though, i dont know if its cause its 3am or whatever here, but i dont have the pit in the stomach feeling that i get when i come to the end of something i really really love and know ill not see more. Maybe cause i know movies are coming. I dont know. I guess i never really got drawn into Atlantis like SG-1 or what Star Trek is doing to me now or Farscape and stuff. It had a rough start and i think that has had a effect on how i look at Atlantis to this day. I feel it really came together in the last seasons, but it was never able to fully lock on to me for some reason. In a way im glad its over. I like it a lot and would probably watch it for years to come, but part of me wanted to see it wrap up so that Universe can come in and bring back the glory and prestige of SG-1 ( to me ). I guess we shall see what happens.

I still stand firm in the belief that the SG reality has the potential to be as huge as Star Trek , if its given enough resources and freedom. I really hope universe takes it to the next level.

Oh well. Another solid show bites the dust. I will miss Atlantis.

Oh wow i didnt know Robert Carlyle has been cast in one of the lead roles. A interesting character to have on the show. And not listed as lead, but "a" lead role.

Judging from the notes & spoilers (http://www.gateworld.net/universe/s1/100.shtml) and the character descriptions (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2008/09/meet-the-stargate-universe-team/), Universe really doesn't look promising ...

They're trapped on the ship (that won't get old after half a season ). They can't get back to Earth, which means they can't dial any gates so every destination will be completely random (hello ... Sliders?) and the producers are trying to skew young and make it more intimate, character driven and intense (read melodramatic), like BSG (Stargate 90210).

They really need to give up the ghost and let the franchise die with the little dignity it has left. I liked Atlantis, but it was never as good as SG1 and Universe looks like it's going to be yet another big step down.

well, not sure about the random dialing. I heard it was they are trapped in another galaxy or alternate universe... but anyways, yea can't return home and is about trying to find a way back. Sounded very Star Trek Voyager to me...

Oh and about it dying out, I'd agree with that. I loved SG-1, I think mainly because it sucked me in with the earth Mythology, but it seems they moved away from it all. They did the King Arthur and Merlin stuff, and then slightly into Christianity and images of Satan/Devil/Evil. but it all kind of went to the wayside. SG-1 IMO was good up until the half season. Atlantis has had a bit of Mythology, continuing the Ancient stuff, but never went anywhere. Like in the first season they had episode after episode about how they found a new device in the city and what they thought the ancients were using it or making it for. but towards the end it became more of a "Oh Shit! Wrath, we need to do something" which didn't feel right to me. or the next to last episode which was set in an alternate reality and the only sci-fi thing about it was there was a wrath, hell it was basically a wild west/no country for old men style, just terrible. I don't know, I'm not expecting much from Universe, but I'll definitely watch the first few episodes.

SPOILERS BELOW!

Speaking of Voyager, the finale felt like the finale of Voyager, they make it back to Earth. Yea, they totally havn't started ripping off Star Trek.

I was very disappointed that the show ended like this. It felt rushed and just came too early in the show. I know Universe is coming this summer. But they could have had a couple more seasons.

This really should have been a two-parter, it just felt rushed. And I have high hopes for Universe, it makes sense for them to make the changes that they have, my only real concern is how are they going to shot the series? Stargate has a very distinctive visual style, and if they change that to something more like say Battlestar, it might turn off old viewers.

Well Stargate has shown itself to be a evolving story in each iteration of it so far. So i would take anything you hear about the shows plot with a grain of salt. Things will change in the show if needed, if its anything like its history.

.side note.

I just realized in my frist post i said " i havent read the frist post yet". I meant that i havent seen the final episode yet.

I was a little disappointed with the whole latest cycle. The fire seemed to have gone out of the series once the termination order came down.

Hopefully they can do something good on straight-to-DVD.

The finale should have been two episodes. I liked it because had things I wanted to see in the series like the Wraith finding Earth and Atlantis coming to earth. What seem a weird now that I think of it is what Shepard did with the fighter. The Wraith ship had a sensor that could detect a cloaked jumper and took little damage from earth's ships with advanced weapons but Shepard sneaks up on it by just having minimum systems on and then blows a whole in it with a missile.
