Greatness.
I did LBP but ah well, their movies though were pretty well chosen. Can't argue them beyond the DK and IM placement of Alex's... (*shakes a mighty fist*) How can that last battle trump the Joker...
Jeff should have totally started his trailer out with "And here we go."

Movies:
5. Tropic Thunder
4. Iron Man
3. Body of Lies

I have yet to see The Wrestle, Milk, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, or Frost/Nixon so I've left the number 1 out until I've seen the other contenders.
Games:
5. GTA 4
4. Gears of War 2
3. Valkyria Chronicles
2. Fable 2
1. Metal Gear Sold 4
TV:
3. Mythbusters
2. Lost
1. House
I could only give 3 because I don't watch a ton of TV but these 3 are the shows that I love watching every week.

Awsome episode :D I loved the intro(maybe best ever). Reminded me of Take On Me-video(A-ha)(couldn't link the video from YT), but I see now it was The Purple rose of Cairo.
Can't wait till The Wrestler comes to Norway, but because of a warmovie is screening, and everyone is seeing it instead of new movies, it isn't coming many new movies to norway. Loved Iron Man and The Dark Knight. The Orphanage came to USA in 2007, but wasn't availble on most cinemas before 2008.
In games, I would put WOTLK on my first, and Little Big Planet on second and Trackmania on third.
Horrible I can't see Dr.Horrible. Video on website isn't available, and I can't download it from iTunes. Does anyone knows how I can watch it?
I also wanted a top 5 in comics too.

Really? I think season 3 of Avatar was as good as 1 and 2, if not better because it was part of 1 and 2. The final 6 or so episodes were great pieces of the finale to the series.
I imagine that the boys may have included it, if it were a top 10 list.
The guys barely talked about Lost this year.

Dan, I thought you liked Burnout Paradise. Surprised it didn't make your list.
And Jeff if you hit 80 (and before Alex), I guarantee you spent more hours on WoW than any other game on your list, it deserves a position.
Kinda bummed about Lost being the TV show too, you guys still have your battered wife syndrome with it. One or two good episodes can't make up for the fact the writers are just making it up on the fly.

Movies
5. Role Models - hilarious - i love paul rudd
4. Pineapple Express - when this movie came out i was a regular pot smoker and saw the midnight showing high - had to go see it again to catch some parts because i was laughing so much the first time, i also love james franco
3. Wall-E - beautiful, pixar can do no wrong
2. Milk - inspiring, acting was top notch
1. The Dark Knight - amazing movie, its going to be hard to top this next year (harry potter and watchmen might)
I haven't seen the wrestler, doubt or let the right one in yet though, im guessing they would end up in there.
I was surprised Wall-E wasn't on any of their lists.
Also, cant wait for the new season of Lost, agreed for best show.
edit to add tv and games:
Games
5. SW: Force Unleashed - great story, a little clunkie but a lot of fun
4. Smash Bros Brawl - had a ton of fun playing with my little bro
3. WoW - quit before wrath but still played loads the beginning of the year
2. Rock Band 2 - sooo fun playing with a couple buddies
1. Fable 2 - great game all the way through (except the end "battle"), its only downfall is its shortness
dont have a ps3 so cant play LBP, but i assume its great
TV
5. Fringe - not the next lost like i thought it would be, but still a very entertaining and attention grabbing show
4. South Park - not as funny as some seasons but still hilarious and a great show
3. Heroes - a lot of fun, hate it sometimes but my little brother loves it and its great to watch with him
2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - funniest show on television right now
1. Lost - words cant describe how much i love this show

This episode made me realize that foreign films don't get enough respect here in the US, but it's okay we make good movies. But the animated documentary from Israel was super good. I can't remember it's name thought right now.
And...
JCVD and The Wrestler had very similar themes yet only one was regarded so highly. Which makes me wonder why that is.

Can I just say that the idea of Star Wars 3D is amazingly awesome? Because you know, I need to shovel more of my money into Lucas' pocket. This whole deal can't hit theaters soon enough!
Side note:

The movie picks weren't terribly surprising and I would say that I agree, but I haven't seen Doubt, Milk or The Wrestler yet. I've only played three games that came out last year (WoTLK, L4D and GTAIV) and they all did pretty well, so I certainly can't argue with that. I was, however, very surprised by the tv picks. I haven't seen more than one or two episodes of most of the shows that were mentioned (Lost and True Blood being the exceptions) and was generally disappointed with what I have seen.
My Picks
Movies
Cloverfield
Hellboy 2
Tropic Thunder
Iron Man
The Dark Knight
Games
GTA IV
L4D
WoTLK
TV
How I Met Your Mother
The Big Bang Theory
Mythbusters

I feel like such an outcast with my movie picks.. I'm more of an old movie kinda person...30's-50's (I do have a top 5 of classic movies I watched a lot in '08 if anyone is interested :D..)
I dont even have a top 5 pick of '08!!! I'm lame...
Movies
1. The Last Mistress (I think that came out in '08)
2. Twilight (Yes I'm a Twitard, so suck it!)
3. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Video Games
There can be only one.... World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King!
Tv
1. The Big Bang Theory

3. How I Met Your Mother
4. Project Runway
5. Two and a Half Men

Soo...I was there :p and let me say:
A. Star Wars 3D = like being a kid all over again. So incredibly fresh, like seeing Star Wars for the "second" time.
B. NO love for John Adams? I asked Dan and he said it was a mini-series...but then he put in Dr. Horrible.
C. The whole 5 minute (est) trailer for WOW WotLK on the big screen...EPIC!

I knew the comment would get somebody's goat up, but I completely see how this was more of a word-play issue (my spine hurts turning like this-I want to make a joke about a twisted spine or something like it-what is a spine based back problem-spinal...something..spinal..spina bifida!) insert joke here.
I did not see this as Jeff targeting spina bifida as a "funny situation" but more of a quick joke about "hey I'm gonna get a back problem from doing this, but I can't think of a good name for it." He could have said Scoliosis, would that have been less offensive? Or are back-problem jokes off limits?
Sorry you were offended, but its gonna happen.

C. The whole 5 minute (est) trailer for WOW WotLK on the big screen...EPIC!
.... and yet another weird revelation about myself (one of these days you're going to just start ignoring me), I'd never seen a single one of those trailers before. I almpst cried in The Wrestler one and a zephelin tried to parrallel park in my mouth during the WOW trailer . . . . (sigh, I'll explain just in case - my mouth was WIDE open the whole time). That was badass - pity it doesn't represent the game well.
Still confused and dissappointed with Lost. Just based on the TRS boys opinions of the show last year, they didn't justify #1 spot for it.

To be honest, I was a little annoyed by it at first (I have SB as well), but I knew that Jeff didn't mean any offense by it, so I got over it quickly. I was also a little perplexed (and highly amused) by the randomness of choosing SB out of all spinal disorders. Most people that I've talked to about it have never heard of it before.
BTW, I also give the guys permission to make spinal injury related jokes in the future. LOL

Not that it's directly relative, but at the live show, the trailers were MUCH longer than in the edited show, hence the reason he said what he said.

Choosing a best movie of 08 is actually really difficult.
The movie that affected me the most emotionally was clearly The Wrestler.
The movie that was the most though provoking was Doubt.
The move that I enjoyed most was The Dark Knight, which is why it gets my number 1 spot.
All excellent movies though!

Great episode guys! I adore the live shows, and especially the 'Best Of' shows. There were so many funny 'off the cuff' moments.
Alex, huge props to you and your #1 Game of the Year - how can anything beat Wrath of the Lich King? I SO agree with you! Blizzard really stepped it up a notch with this expansion.

Jeff, I'd love to check out The Shield but I guess it's very popular. It's been at the top of my Netflix queue for quite a while, but it has a 'very long wait' availability. Hopefully a disc will make it my way soon.
My tops for the last year:
Movie - The Dark Knight
Videogame - No More Heroes
TV - Dexter

My Tops for last year:
Movie: Wall-E
Videogame: Fable II (very closely followed by GoWII)
TV: Mad Men
I actually thought Mad Men as BETTER this season than last. It seemed to flesh out a lot more characters rather than purely concentrating on Don. It's funny also, that when my mates and I did our top 10's for last year, he had the same arguments over The Orphanage (IMDB says 2007).

Jeff, as an actor and Improv comic, NEVER apologize for your craft. You have nothing to apologize for. If more than 10% of the people laugh, you are funny. You were well above 90%. Never change your work to make people happy. Just make them laugh. Job well done.
Here's to hoping people let go of their own hang ups and laugh at reality. It is so funny.

My 5's
Movies:
Iron Man
Tropic Thunder
Hellboy 2
Zack and Miri....

Games:
Valkyria Chronicles
The World Ends With You
WoW: WotLK

Professor Layton
TV:
Chuck
Lost
30 Rock
Top Chef
The Office
(Edit: I can't bring myself to include Dr. Horrible, because it was never broadcast on television, and I watched it on laptops.)
Also, just have to keep saying it until he proves me wrong: Alex is going to hate Valkyria Chronicles. (Well, maybe not hate, but he's going to get bored with it and I'd be shocked if he gets to Ch. 7 before they review the game on TRS.)

Wouldn't have offended anyone.
It also wouldn't have been funny.
Listen, since this is still being discussed, I just want to say - again - that I am sorry you took offense, but you should be clear I was not cracking a joke AT you, or anyone with any medical condition. The entire reason what I said was a joke (as opposed to your chiropractor line, which is more of an observation), is that it is preposterous. It doesn't make any sense. OF COURSE I can't get SB. It bears no relation to the facts of the actual disease. The joke is all about how disproportionally serious the condition is with what is actually happening.
That said, I'll be more considerate in the future, if you'll concede that there really was no ill will aimed at you, or anyone dealing with SB.

I think we could do with a little less sensitivity training in this world and do with a significant bit more insensitivity training, i.e. teaching people how to have a thicker skin and not be so bothered by jokes and offhand comments that contain no malice.

I think we could do with a little less sensitivity training in this world and do with a significant bit more insensitivity training, i.e. teaching people how to have a thicker skin and not be so bothered by jokes and offhand comments that contain no malice.
yeah, have 'em go watch Gran Torino

Was There Will Be Blood not eligible or did they forget about it? Because I see no way it would be left off of all of their lists.

It did come out in 2007 but they didn’t review it until a week after their last year end show.

Great Episode and I look forward to checking out some of those movies I had not heard about like Milk and Doubt. And I'm sold on going to see The Wrestler.
I too was a very loyal Shield watcher. Epic series finale. I wonder if Jeff has caught any Sons of Anarchy? I found it help heal the gaping would the Shield left. The Shield was on another level, but SoA didn't stick around on the Tivo for long. "Dutchboy" guest stars in a few episodes.
Has Dexter made anyones top 5 in past years? Excellent show. If I could only recommend one show, I'd be Lost. But Dexter would be number 2.
Using Alex's "what moves off the Tivo quickest" rule to rank my favorite shows.
5. True Blood. Lots of potential.
4. Ultimate Fighter. Action packed. Real careers born.
3. Dexter. Every season consistently delivers
2. Lost. The best show on TV.
1. Shield. But The Shield's viciousness earns #1

I thought I'd start with TV cause I watch so much I had to think about it for a couple days. I also like Alex's "what comes off my Tivo fastest" method as that is usually how I can tell I'm enjoying a show.
10. True Blood
9. The Shield
8. Chuck
7. The Office
6. Lost
5. Eli Stone (this is the show I mourn for)
4. Life (Damien Lewis rocks my socks)
3. Psych (best buddy show on TV)
2. 30 Rock
1. The Mentalist
Movies
5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (funniest movie of the year)
4. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
3. Frost/Nixon
2. Dark Knight (best movie)
1. Iron Man (most enjoyable movie)

I have to say great show guys. I loved all the picks but I think you are most correct in that TV is a weird category. There are only so many movies or video games that come out each year but TV is 24/7. Even if you narrow it down to prime time there are still 200 channels to chose from. I can't say I agreed with any of you except for Jeff's pick of Sunny.
My top 5 TV picks:
5. Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!
4. Mad Men
3. How I Met Your Mother
2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
1. The Big Bang Theory
If you haven't seen "The Big Bang Theory" you WILL enjoy it. Seriously, you reading this forum tells me enough about you to let you know that you will like it.

i was quite surprised with the TRS guy's choices for their top 5s's. it wasn't what i expected. although Jeff and his love for The Shield was completely predictable. ;)
good show, and the intro with the audience was pretty cool. lucky~

I figured it must have not aired during 2008, but Internet has confirmed...it just ended 6 months ago. It was clearly the best show on television and probably the best series finale ever...dissappointed.

That shirt is a woot shirt. If it isn't still available from woot your options are Ebay or find somewhere that will make a shirt based on your artwork and copy the incredibly simple design and have them put it on a grey shirt. Or you can pay me an outrageous price for the one I have.
Check woot nightly at midnight central so you can get the shirts you want for only $10 shipped. That gameboy shirt sold out at $10 within an hour. I'm honestly surprised it's not still available for $15. It was at the top of the reckoning heap for at least a month.

What episode did the guys talk about the third season of Avatar? I don't remember seeing it, but I figure I must have skipped it since I saw it late and didn't want to be spoiled.
I was shocked that it didn't make anyone's top 5. The ending was beyond epic. I agree with Lost at number one, but on my list Avatar would probably be number 2.

Episode 71, they didn't get into it much, kind of just a quick 'loved it' comment on the finale.

"I'm gonna need a chiropractor by the end of the show."
Wouldn't have offended anyone.
I've got a tough skin, I can handle people cracking jokes at me (happened all my life and still does on occasion), but people need education on some things. He apologized, I'm over it.
does spinabifida turn you in to a pussy? because that's what you sound like. Im sorry for your problems, but the fact is that this is a common way to make jokes. You can't laugh at anyone else until you're able to laugh at yourself. Life has handed you lemons, make lemonade and laugh. The guy's banter should not be changed to accommodate one person bitching about ridiculous stuff.

LOL
i think he chose that condition is because of course is has the word spine in it, and second it is so random and obscure that it makes the "joke" funny. Also just a note, his comment wasn't making jokes about a serious condition, it was equating something minute to something extremely serious.

On Friday, me and my girl pulled a double header to catchup on some movies and saw Slumdog and Wrestler. Both were really good but the Wrestler was just awesome. Story, acting, execution... just perfect. Definitely worth the TRS movie of the year.
Slumdog was really good too, she actually liked that one better, but the wrestler I am still thinking about 2 days later...

I know the TRS crew did not enjoy The Force Unleashed enough to put it on their lists but it would definitely be in my top 5.
I just finished Dead Space on medium level and I loved loved loved that game. I had to take a break several times because it was scaring the bejezus out of me but the final boss battle was so much fun. The girlfriend story at the end did confused me a little.
I don't remember a full review of Dead Zone on the show. Was there one? I know Dead Space was a sponsor. I was surprised that no one is has this in their top 5 list. I think I would put it at the top of my list.

And Jeff if you hit 80 (and before Alex), I guarantee you spent more hours on WoW than any other game on your list, it deserves a position.
The list, as I understand it, is about which game/movie/TV show is the most enjoyable, there's nothing in that about time played.

Where's Steve's picks?
Anyways my top 5s (haven't played or watched quite a bit but I think my TV list is 100% unchangeable while I could definitely see some changes in videogames and movies)
Movies:
1. Dark Knight (everytime it's just OMGWTFBBQ)
2. The Counterfeiters (great true story and I love it's Shield-inspired camera work)
3. Wall-E (how did the TRS guys forget this gem?)
4. Iron Man (when the end credits kicked I was like FUCK YEAH!)
5. Slumdog Millionaire (the score is AMAZING)
Games:
1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (the best production I've seen in anything ever, totally fixed my qualms with 3, made me cry, WOWZA beginning to end)
2. Grand Theft Auto IV (awesome game, and my favorite GTA)
3. Burnout Paradise (Criterion is amazing, the amount of content and how awesome it looks, and the polish and...)
4. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift (this is the perfect sequel to a game that was nowhere near perfect)
5. Pixeljunk Eden (so much fun, I think the unique "arty" look scares people off but they should know it's just the best platformer maybe ever, sorry LBP!)
TV:
1. The Wire (best show of all time ends)
2. The Shield (2nd best show of all time ends)
3. Battlestar Galactica (3rd best show of all time begins its final act)
4. Avatar (best animated show of all time ends)
5. Lost (at least this one's not ending till 2010 :smileysadface)
I hate not having LBP in my top 5 but the online problems were just too much. Movies was really close and may change depending on time of day. Though TDK is a solid #1. I wish I could have Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Dr Horrible, True Blood or Spectacular Spider-man on my list as they were all great.

Tell me how it's not Shield inspired. I didn't see that kind of gritty shaky cam in non-action sequence camera work pre-Shield. I always thought it came from the Shield so if I'm wrong please tell me some other films that I can look up.
Unless you're exasperated because you don't like the style. Though if I remember correctly you liked the Mist's camera work which was done by the Shield guys.

French Connection, Excorcist, Die Hard, Bourne movies, City of God, Paul Greengrass movies, Saving Private Ryan, Lars Von Trier movies, Tape, Rodger Dodger, Serpico...
And I said I hated the camerawork because it feels as phony and "put on" as it does in The Shield, to me.

My bad-- I just readlized you specified "non-action" sequence. So omit the first 3 and Serpico...but there really is a long list...
And I ment to specify I hated the camerawork in THE MIST. Sorry for double posting, folks.

I've seen about half of those and I don't remember any of them having as intense camera work as the Shield or Counterfeiters (or anywhere near). But maybe I'm just wrong there. I've never watched Saving Private Ryan so I'll watch that and get back to you.
Anyways that style is fantastic in the Shield and in Counterfeiters. It doesn't feel unnatural to me at all though I believe it's all in the execution. I really feel that if the camera work was more plain jane the Shield wouldn't be my 2nd favorite show ever. Simple as that. The diagonal pan downward with a sharp zoom on a face is pretty much my favorite shot ever and I think the first time I've ever seen it is in the Shield.

Yeah, I was really disappointed with their "discussion" of the Avatar finale because they did it during the Comic-con show and as was mentioned, they just kinda glossed over it.
