I thought this was pretty interesting, found it over on the Revision3 blog when reading about the live diggnation.

San Francisco, CA – January 7, 2009 – Internet television leader Revision3 has named Ryan Vance, seasoned television executive, executive producer and show runner, Vice President of Programming and Production. Based in Revision3’s San Francisco headquarters, Vance will spearhead production and programming efforts across Revision3’s wide network of shows. The announcement was made by Revision3 CEO Jim Louderback.

Prior to Revision3, Vance was executive producer at G4TV, where he managed all aspects of production, budget and development on multiple series and network specials, including America Ninja Challenge, X-Play, Free Stuff!, Live from E3, Live from Comic-Con, Icons, Cheat and more. In addition to his work at G4, Vance served as president and executive producer at Advance Media Productions, LLC, where he developed new shows for the Sci Fi Network, Reelz Channel and various new media outlets such as Gamefly.com, Championship Gaming Series and MiniMovieChannel.com.

Vance was also a series producer at Edelman Productions, where he was responsible for all aspects of production and post production for shows on HGTV and DIY Network, and held positions at Tech TV as series creator/show runner for the long running program X-Play and producer on Gamespot TV and Extended Play. Vance spent his early career in production at WB20 in San Francisco, Calif.

“Ryan Vance has been a true leader in both traditional and Internet television, said Jim Louderback, CEO, Revision3. “I’m excited to bring his passion and creativity to Revision3, where he’ll be building truly Web-based entertainment—created exclusively for the Internet and geared to the Internet viewer. With his unique blend of experiences, he will be a great addition to our team, developing new programs and making our existing lineup the best it can be.”

Excited to see what he brings to Revision3. Been seeing his name for years at the end of shows that I have enjoyed, hope that continues here.

It worries me because I really don't need any more Spaceballs in my life right now.

Anybody who has seen Revision3 programs know that the hosts actually are knowledgeable about what they present. They probably take cues and get talking points from producers but they can carry the conversation from their training and just knowledge from being in the technology business. Teckkes appreciate and expect this from the people they turn to for information. I noticed G4TV was going to cover the CES show with 2 broadcast from Vegas. The host used were from their ‘Attack of the Show’ and other pretty adolescent programs on that network. It was obvious that they didn’t go to technical colleges, but rather acting schools and are in the business just to be famous. Every bit of information and even the in-between ad-libbing seemed to be directly feed to them from tele-prompters and IFB audio feeds. I have watched the few ‘technical’ shows on G4 and that’s how they all are.

What’s more, I went to the G4TV forums and posted comments about their talent and was warned by moderators that it was against the rules to post negative comments about the hosts. How funny is that. They have forums for viewers to give feedback, and you can, as long as it’s positive.

So this makes me wonder about the producer from there. Was he one of the reasons programs are so bad on that network (a lot of the shows are just old stale reruns from other networks and other crap that has nothing to do with technology), and will he start replacing the knowledgeable people here with wanna-be stars?

Why is that?

Same reason I was worried when they announced bringing Louderback on board...that the focus would be on being a TV-style network.
