Regarding men getting the "pill" or shot. ( a thread from diggnation that got a little heated)
I think it would be much simpler for a vasectomy to be added to the infant boy's circumcision. When he grows up and wants a little "DNA LINK" he can get it reversed.

Or else, put birth control in the water supply.

But, always wear a condom with "strangers".

Vasectomies aren't always reversible.

You know, you've got to get a license to drive, to marry, to give legal advice, etc., but not to parent. And parenting is one of the toughest, most important jobs in the world.

No. THE most important.

I wish people didn't take it so lightly.

You may want to edit that one part about needed a license to parent, your point will be missed.

Holy genital mutilation batman!

The trouble with that idea is not all parents choose to get their boys circumcized.

I can't express how monsterous I think this idea is? Prophlatyc sterilization from birth? Have you ever seen a newborn nut-sack?

I would imagine that carrying out such a procedure would not be simple, I expect it would be an unwarrently risky procedure for newborn boys as their immune systems are not yet fully functional.

Teaching our children about sex and personal safety is the answer. Mutilating newborn boys at birth is not?

No thank you.

Just wrong, I hope you were joking...

I was joking. I actually wish I could have had a hysterectomy at 12.

I have two beautiful children. Spent 10 years of it as a single mother with very little child support.

I had no idea when I was pregnant what was going to change in my life and how hard it was going to be. I was ignorant about the hardships and reality of parenting especially with no family around to help - grandma, aunts, uncles, etc. Both my parents past when I was younger and siblings live in other cities and countries.

One daughter has made it to 18 and she's turned out great. My 10 year old is full of energy and drains every drop of energy out of me.

Thankfully, I've taken many parenting classes and keep up with the latest parenting literature. It's been a lifesaver.

There should be a program in school that makes a teen live alone with a child for one week. Have to pay rent, call in sick when kid gets sick, risk losing job, figure out how they are going to pay childcare, wake up with the kid leaning over you while throwing up on you, waking up because child wet bed again, etc. All the loving parts of parenting.

Knowledge is power.

Well, god bless you.

One of the by-products of being an awkward geek was the complete lack of sexual contact before the age of 20. By then you've learned about contraceptives and babies.

My wife and I waited until I was out of grad-school before starting a family. Since we both work in academia, it was possible for us to arrange our schedules so we don't have to get childcare.

I can't imagine what a pain it must be to do all the things we need to do with our two and be single. My hats off to you.

Ah so the yolks on me yet again.

I figured altering babies was just a shocking type statement to get attention.

The only problem is that it sounds like something they'd would do to women in the middle-east.

You know, circumcision itself isn't that far off from it. We're cutting genitals still. But the difference is that, for boys, the intention isn't to decrease sexual pleasure later in life.

Although, that is an effect.

Although, that is an effect.

So it does have an noticeable effect on pleasure for men?

I know originally it was done for sanitation purposes though.
