So I recently purchased and read Superman: Secret Identity, based on the reviews from the guys. It was my first comic and I thoroughly enjoyed, maybe a little too short. Since then I have purchased both Watchmen and V for Vendetta; and I have started Watchmen, so far it is good.

So my question, what are some good comics to read, I never read a true capes and cowls and was wondering if there is good series to read, so I can see if I like it. Also, is there a good website for buying comics, I have used tfaw.com and not impressed, I will try the local comic book store next time, but is there a good website for this stuff?

Okay so I went ahead and created a list of everyone's suggestions, I will add to it if any more suggestions are made.

I'd stick to stores if I were you. Even Barnes and Noble is pretty good for trades.

For some quintessential Batman, grab The Killing Joke, Batman: Year One and The Long Halloween. I also recommend Hush, but I know there's quite a few people who don't like it.

If you want a great series to read that's not capes and cowls, definitely check out Y: The Last Man.

I wasn't into comics much either and started with Runaways, and it sucked me into buying more and more comics.

Thanks for the replys, what is dcbs.com (http://www.dcbs.com/)? I definetely plan on checking out The Killing Joke since it is from Alan Moore. Also, Runaways sounds really interesting. Also what are some good comics from Kurt Busiek, I really enjoyed Secret Identity, the guys mentioned Marvels which I will check out, any others?

Preacher was another one they recommended and I really enjoyed it.

Invincible
Rising Stars
Batman Long Halloween
Batman Dark Victory
Batman Year One
Superman For All Seasons

And without the superheroes. Try Preacher, Transmetropolitan, The Sandman.

And I would actually recommend eBay, you can find a lot of great prices on there. Or maybe Amazon if buying TPBs.

Astro City is a must read. And make sure to start on Vol. 1. Same goes for Runaways, start on Vol 1. This can be confusing for a lot of people when comics keep starting over at #1.

I loved the new Joker trade that came out in like August or whatever.

Y the last man.
The walking dead.
Beyond wonderland(an return to wonderland) i might have these two mixed up.

Just tossing random stuff out.

You should check out the Punisher books on the Marvel MAX label. Pure uncensored fun and violence for consenting adults

WOW, thanks for all the suggestions, I will definetely be checking these out. This list should keep me busy for a while, I think once I have finished Watchmen and VfV, I will get Y: The Last Man or Superman for All Seasons.

With regards to purchasing, so far I have used a couple resources, the first being ebay for Secret Identity, I just bought a couple of NM; fortunately one of the sellers is located in Indianapolis which is 50 mi away, which means even the cheapest shipping will be really fast. I also used tfaw.com (http://www.tfaw.com), which was quick, but overall prices and shipping were a little expensive compared to what you guys have suggested. Any way I think I will try out the local shop and see what they have.

Lastly, I think I am going to just buy TPB for now, I am not really much of a collector of anything except junk, I might once I read something out of this world, but for now TPB. I am going to compile this list and add it to the beginning in case anyone else is interested.
