Hi Guys,

Just finished watching a movie called 'Hunger' and I was so impressed I just wanted to recommend it to everyone. And also, discuss with those who have already seen it.
It's written and Directed by a guy called Steve Mcqueen (different dude). From what I can gather it's his debut in writing and movie making. He has however won a Turner Prize for his artist style of filming. (An aspect of this movie I really enjoyed).

Summary: Drama about the events surrounding the 1981 hunger strike by IRA prisoners, led by Bobby Sands, over conditions at the Maze prison.

The actor who plays Bobby Sands (Michael Fassbender) starved himself for 2 months in order to prepare for the part. I must say it is absolutely awesome! The first hour has no dialogue whatsoever and yet the movie completely sucks you in. I think McQueen's style of filming was amazing. For instance a scene of a cleaner swepting urine and bleach down a long corridoor within the prison. The scene lasts for at least 4/5mins and yet there is something about it which captures you about it. Almost therapeutic.
It's been a while since Ive found it an inconvenience to even blink while watching a movie.

Here is some words from the Director himself.

"When I was a child growing up in 1981, aged about 11 or 12, there were three things that influenced me: the Brixton riots, Tottenham winning the FA Cup - which was fantastic - and Bobby Sands.

"His image appeared on the TV screen virtually every night with a number underneath it and it stayed with me. That passion and that level of confrontation to die on hunger strike.

He said he initially contemplated having no dialogue at all.

"But then I started to think about there being, after a period of no dialogue, an avalanche of dialogue."

The film is almost without dialogue for it's first hour, before an unbroken 22 minute take of Sands discussing his proposed hunger strike with his priest.

Guys, I eally recommend this movie and would even deem it worthy of a review on TRS (?)
