I bought a couple of old motherboards for 2 dollars a piece from the local electronics store. Had they been anymore the better half might have killed me. They may not even work at all, but if one works I will be ahead. The time spent with the family to see if they work will be more fun, educational, and cheaper than most any movie or other entertainment. Anyone else do the same type of thing?

Not really. I'm usually the shmuck selling. Notebooks get the boot after about 9-12 months, desktop about 18-24 months. I don't really do builds unless I'm hankering after something which isn't offered by the Tier 1 builders - I like reliable machines.

I easily chunk non-working after I scour it for parts or whatever that can be reused. I agree with you that one should not go after bad stuff. Once in a while you find a diamond in the rough. I now have a used newer 2.2ghz computer for all of 2 dollars and leftover parts from a crappy DEAD DELL computer I had.
