Today I was stuck in class, after taking the Writing-FCAT(if you don't know what that is, it's basically a manditory test that you have to pass to graduate and whatnot here in Florida.) So anyway, me and this kid Chris were playing games on a piece of paper(ie: Tic-tac-toe, tanks, and that connecting the dots one), and I thought it'd be cool to play NIM, but I didn't have a bunch of toothpicks or anything. So I designed a version that you can play on paper:

You draw 17 small circles, and then each person takes turns filling 1, 2, or 3 in.(Just like Nim, only you fill them in instead of 'taking them.' This is where the problem arises.

In normal NIM, if you go first, you have to cheat, but on paper you can't exactly conceal a drawn circle...So I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on how you could win if you go first in this 'new' version of NIM?

By the way, I'm new here...I watched every eppisode of Scam School*after watching Brian's SSS seminar), and so I finally decided to joing the forums.

You couldn't cheat but that's a great idea for a cool way to play Advanced Nim when you're short on supplies. No cheating required...technically.
