Streaming Audio over a network with VLC

I'm trying to stream my windows sounds, the sound from any application, from one computer to another. Its from XP to Vista. I'm using version 0.9.8a. I've tried many online tutorials without success. I don't know if its my network, or if I'm just doing something wrong. Could someone help me or at least point me in the right direction.

I stream all my sound with Firefly. The latest windows media player detects it as well as itunes players and there are no directories that have to be shared. Firefly is available for all the major platforms including mac and mswindows.
