To get something of the quality of revision3, there are a lot of variables to consider in terms of pricing:

- Servers to hold large amounts of data with high bandwidth for streaming video

- Initial design and development of a site in a highly organized, easy to use format that also caters to the needs of video with streaming software/coding

- Constant maintenance and monitoring of site

- Various web costs such as domain name

- Marketing campaign costs

Also, if you are going to produce the shows, you need to keep in mind all the costs of scripting, producing and filming such as cameras, sets, video editing, music licensing, etc.

I'm sure there are many things I've missed (not to be a downer), but it's a start. Personally, I would sit down and really map out everything I wanted to do and then start pricing all the various aspects. Once you have the full scope, I think it will be easier to solidify a plan to really launch a great site. Hope that helps!

You could just shoot your shows and then upload them to YouTube and then embed them on your website that you make yourself using some sort of WYSIWYG website authoring package (or hire someone to make the website). But the downside is that the quality of the videos will be pretty crappy since it's YouTube.

As mlobach said, there are many factors to consider. I just use a blogging software to post my videos/episodes and embed them from Viddler so it doesn't use much of my own bandwidth.

If you want your own branded videos and host every video posted there's going to be a huge amount of bandwidth needed for that.

Definitely hammer out all the details. BTW, are you the one that emailed me?

as far as videos are concened, you could use the companies tried and true method (granted you have a good hosting provider + upstream). Bitgravity is now offering a free player you could use to embed your videos to your site.

thanks a lot for the advice guys and it means a lot for me...
we did sit down for the past 1.5 years and we discussed and strategized our direction,
marketing,financing etc
the only major point we could not find a product we really wanted was the website itself
..we still need a website which is similar to revision3 and has some sort of same functionalibility
...webhosting for the site and buying a domain name that has been sorted..and we have a few cameras too
i hope we will find what we really want and i know that ..this is the only place in the world where i can get top class advice all the time

how do i design a website for an internet tv station like this one.
-we have cameras
-webhosting
-we have studio
-we have domain name
-we have marketing strategy
all thats left is to design a website to suit. but dont know whether to design from sratch and which software to use
dont know whether buying a php template will be enough and could play around with it.

You are looking for a Content Managment System..CMS
Like:
http://drupal.org/
http://www.xoops.org/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_management_system

Only think you need is a guy setting it up, and then you can add things yourself etc...

how does embeding a video works
how ...do i benefit
i supposse its free
does it need a web specialist to do
...does this mean i will get my videos hosted for free

They usually have live demos you can try.
You have to fix your own hosting..and do check if they have any bandwidth limits since you are going to run video...

You need one that have basic skills in web that can understand the documentation and design and create the templates you will use when you create your content.

And most of them are "free" or under some form of GPL license.

Defarri - seriously?

1. Learn to spell. Even just a little, with some punctuation occasionally.
If you are trying to communicate your intentions and what you would you like your site to be, it will really REALLY help.
2. Copying another site. Not cool. Coming up with an original concept is half the battle. The second half it being able to communicate it to someone that can make it a reality (see point 1). There is a lot more to it than grabbing a bunch of wordpress templates and changing the colours.
3. Kevin Rose was surrounded by personal friends who had the talent to build his vision for him. You need to find similar friends. People you can site down with a pint and talk to face to face. Because of 1 and 2, trying to do this online isn't going to cut it.
4. Advertising a competitors website is considered spam here. Contributing to the design of a possible competitors website is pushing the limits of acceptable conduct as well.

Good luck with what you are trying to achieve, but I really don't think this is the right venue for you to do it.

Token, Maybe this should be moved to Cry For Help? Seems more of an appropriate venue.

Also, I don't believe the OP has English as his first language. I think he has communicated well enough to get helpful replies.

(not trying to be a mod, just cutting a fellow Rev3 fan some slack)
