Alright, so I'm an old fan from the Geekdrome days. I listen to both TRS and Geekscape (while definitely leaning to the TRS side). In episode #109, Jonathan's newest guest (who also claimed to be a former Dromie) was saying how he prefers Geekscape because he thinks "TRS sucks" especially because there's "no sense of community."
Anyone care to STRONGLY disagree? I know my hand is up.

I haven't watched that episode yet (not this week's TRS either, busy busy). So I don't know the context of the comment. But as an active member of both forums I can say there is a big difference in the communities. Even though both are born from the 'drome they have differing personalities.
He probably likes Geekscape's type of user more so than TRS'. Also that Geekscape is more interactive with the community. The hosts post a lot on the forums and they have forum members on the show among other things.
One isn't better than the other, it's just different. Unfortunately the Geekscape guest host apparently interprets that as sucking. I totally disagree with him. I definitely do not think TRS sucks.

Jeff and Dan post here on an almost daily basis. TRS actually hosts community members in meet-ups and live shows. Through these I've met Alex, Jeff and and Steve personally. So have thousands of other TRS fans. How many "scapers" have met Jon London anywhere but in a creepy irc chat room?
There was a huge sense of community here. I'm friends and share interests with many other TRS fans that I met at meet-ups. Saying that TRS is not interactive with a community or they don't foster a sense of community are simply not true and provocative.

I never said TRS is not interactive, I just said Geekscape is more interactive. And I don't know where you got the idea that I said TRS doesn't "foster a sense of community". You are putting words into my mouth. And many "scapers" have met Jon through his live shows and meet ups.
I had no intention of getting into a huge argument here or anything. I was just trying to say the communities are very different. And the way they are perceived are also different. I personally feel Geekscape is more interactive than TRS. But that doesn't change the fact that I love TRS.

The only time we've ever mentioned Geekscape on our show is when we've RECOMMENDED it to people.
It is sad and unfortunate that Jon wants endorse any of that negativity, but I'd really appreciate if the people in this community don't participate. If people on any other show or forum are having a great time and finding like-minded friends, I think that's awesome. It is not a zero-sum game.

I think it's the tigerdirect of the entertainment review podcasting world, TRS is the newegg in this simile.
or keeping with the Rap theme I guess we are the East Coast taking a Bigy Smalls stance on the whole situation. Let the West Coast run their mouth 2pac style, we got bigger games to play and review.
hey Geekspace, who shot ya?

I have been unfortunately unable to attend any meet ups or live episodes of either show. So my opinion stems from the both shows' interaction through the boards and episodes. So no, I am not wrong. I personally feel (hoping not to get attacked after the following statement) that Geekscape has better interaction with its' entire audience. Not just the lucky few who can attend live shows.

As many of you know I'm an old time Dromie as well. To be honest I like both podcasts equally. they're very different in format and I think I like that. As for the communities I would again say that I like them both equally, but again the communities are very different. I don't want to articulate how they are different as I don't really want to offend anyone, but suffice it to say while both shows came out of the ashes of Geekdrome I think that both shows are great and both communities are great... why do I have to choose between mom and dad... don't make me choose!!!!

ok, I just watched the offending piece on Geekscape and while it makes me sad that they couldn't of re-shot it, it wasn't Jon that said the offending remarks. In fact he does his best to distance himself from the remarks. It looks like because there are no camera breaks ever in Geekscape they didn't cut it, and perhaps decided that it would be better not to censor a guest. Still, as someone from that community as well I just want to stress that I don't think most folks think that way over there. I'm honestly kind of sad that this happened and mostly agree with the east west rap thing that was brought up earlier. There is no issue here, it's one guy said something stupid.

seriously go watch an episode of geekscape, it sucks and is boring as shit. Who the hell is this douche Rob Walter? He said that TRS sucks just to kiss some london ass. The whole episode he was just sitting there looking like a moron and when ever he had something to say it was just like shut the F*&k up your canadian.

FWIW - I *LOVED* the Geekdrome. With the split, I tried watching TRS and Geekscape. Then with the early forum/hosting issues Jon experienced, I drifted away and just felt more comfortable spending time with Dan, Alex, and Jeff.

thirdly yeah, the hosting issues are a bitch and they're back again and annoying as hell, but I know they're trying to deal with them.

Just figured I'd chime in here again as someone who watches both shows (although I am only really active with the Geekscape community).
Neither Jon nor the show as a whole endorsed any TRS hate. It was one comment by one guy who happened to be this week's guest. There was no extended talk about TRS being bad, Jon tried to distance himself from it and diffuse the situation by joking about how Dan was going to attack the guest (who backed off his stance and admitted that he liked Dan).
Jon has never made an inflammatory comment about TRS on Geekscape.
This is really a non-issue.

*looks around*
Woah, I'm a mod?! Sweet! Moving on...
Yeah, this is less like gangsta rap and more like Trekkies vs. Star Wars Fanboys. It's allllll the viewers. The person who was a guest host was a viewer, and just for the record, we've never said anything negative about TRS, cause frankly, we're not the audience and also...why would we?
On Geekscape we have one rule...we never cut. The whole point is that it's a conversation between friends for an hour...we've even adhered to this to the point of threatening our jobs and relationships if the right people saw the show that week (dear GOD do I hope my girlfriend's parents don't listen to, or watch, the show!) Candid is priority #1 and if someone wants to say something bad about a media they consume, then that's fine, we never cut anything. Also, the point of the rotating co-hosts is to provide a different perpsective every week. We see no problem with constructive criticism/preference of TRS/Geekscape than we would someone who preferred Star Wars over Star Trek - it's an open forum! We've even had people talk smack on our own show ON the show! Nothing personal to anyone, just opinions, they're like assholes, everybody...is?...one?...and god knows we have said some SHIT about our close friends on the show.
Anyway, the guys over at TRS are our buddies and we're not spreading any negativity...we actually made jokes about Dan kicking the dude's ass in an effort to lessen his blows. So yeah, no feud or anything of any kind. We SHARE a space, biznotches! This ain't no battleground! This is a space! We're like neighbors, and we're geeks, so it's not like we're throwing any parties!
BTW, the guy also shit on Star Wars, Tyler Perry...and I think black people(?)...so yeah, validate his words for yourself (0) ! :-)
Anywho, carry on. No Shit-talking was done on our part, sir, but on the part of a guest host!
Love,
Brian *"Diplomacy" Gilmore

Everyone knows you use the lube FIRST. Us Canadians are nice like that. Even when administering a dildo beatdown.
To chime in my own worthless opinion, I would like to point out that this thread is pointless. One guest voiced an opinion on Geekscape about TRS. This opinion does not reflect the opinions of the rest of Geekscape or it's host. If I were to judge The Totally Rad Show Show based on the posts of some of it's forum members, that judgment would probably include a death sentence. Lets face it, some of you, even some posting in this thread, are criminally retarded.
But really, that's true of any large group, geekscape especially. Ultimately I can only stand so much of TRS because it has my least favorite parts of Diggnation and Geekdrome letting their powers to irritate me combine. I respect TRS's production value, but ultimately I prefer Geekscape, because whether I agree with it or not, it's more candid, opinionated, bawdier, funnier, and feels more accessible...

Sorry to post in this thread again, but it's so near the top that I thought one last post would be ok. So to put this thing to bed the guy who guest hosted on Geekscape asked me to post the following on here:
"I have a ton of respect for TRS. It's not my forte and my words may have been a little bit harsh. I didn't mean it to be offensive. I think people need to relax a bit cause honestly, I don't even take myself seriously. "
So I think that caps it right from the horses mouth.
