Cover Flow makes anything better. It's a nice graphical way to see the sites you go to the most. It automatically adds your most viewed pages to the "top sites" area. And you can see your bookmarked websites with Cover Flow.
Pretty cool.

Okay I have a number of complaints with this. First, why can't I set my own top sites? I don't want anyone going on my computer and see XXX as one of my "top sites" simply because I visit it often. I want to be able to set my own top sites so I know exactly where they are. Yes I realize some might want to keep it as it is but at least allow the options.
Second, the tabs above make it more of a hassle to switch over to each tab because you have more real estate to cover. I guess thats just what you get when they give you more screen space, you lose the ease at which you used to switch tabs.
Third, does anyone look for a blue loading bar to see if its loading, fail to see it and think its not loading and then remember a little circle only spins in the corner. I know I do.
Anyway, it's fine. I will still use it but I am hoping for some updates, and maybe some customization options at a later point.

I can't help you on the coverflow topsites issue - I like the concept, but wish it was more like Operas "Speed Dial" page.
For everything else, plus a number of other useful hacks (if editing a config file is considered a hack  ), this article is a great reference.

This will rtell you how to put tabs where they belong, and how to restore the blue progress bar.
I like the direction Safari 4 is heading (on OSX, not used it on XP), but still find myself using Opera (10 Alpha) on both Windows XP and OSX more frequently.
(BTW - Welcome back).

Wow...excellent. That fixes two of the problems. Very thorough article as well.
And BTW to your BTW. Thank you.

I hacked my safari to put the tabs back, put the progress bar back, (which puts the reload button back in the "customise toolbar" options) and had to redownload/reinstall the cooliris plugin button I use frequently.
Now it's fine.
You er, edit the Topsites by clicking the little "edit" button on the topsites page. You click the little pushpin icon to keep it, and the x to make it not stick. You can also drag and drop them into a certain order. And choose to have fewer or more. Also changed pages (that use RSS) will have a little star to let you know they have changed. You can leave some topsites unpinned, and they will be populated from your history, so always use "safe browsing" when doing the XXX sessions.

But come on....you are telling me I have to like continuously go to a site just so that it shows up on top sites so that I can then "push pin" it into place? I think there is a clear need for an "add top site" button. With that said, you can tweak it right to set it up how I would like as it currently is and I appreciate the advice. Hehe.
Yes! That was another thing....silly reload button in a crazy place. Back to normal now. w00t. Old safari under new version number FTW.... :-/

No, once you push pin it, it sticks there til you x it.
You can also populate your topsites by draggin and dropping URLs from another window while in edit mode. So Make a second window with all the site you want topsited in tabs, unpushishpin all the pre-populated topsites, then drag them to the topsite window, pushpin them, exit edit, and the same sites will be there everytime.

My one main gripe with Safari 4 is just how it minimizes so easily if you click anywhere other than the exact center of a tab. That bugs me to no end.
Apple needs to update the Safari beta.

I'd help, but I don't know what you mean. "center of the tab"???

I guess it's really if you double click anywhere on the bar it minimizes and its annoying

Oh, that's universal with all mac aps, unless you change the default in prefs.

Just joined the forum - Hope I'm posting in the right place
I'm running a Mac Pro quad with a Verizon Fios 20/5 connection and all was well prior to the latest update of Safari. By well I mean that I'd click and the site would instantly appear. But after the update Safari takes up to 60 seconds to load a site. Often it will load a site's text but not the graphics. These will follow after the pause. Oddly when I look at something like the Google Image browser Safari will take about 60 seconds to respond but then I can move through multiple pages with no delay or reloading.
Anyone else having this kind of response? Or is it possible some kind of bot has gotten into my system?

What happens in Firefox?

tehBoris,
Thanks for responding to my post. With Firefox the delays is not quite as long but it is there also.
