The 30fps version is the highest quality file. Slightly higher bit-rate and also runs, like ya said, at a higher frame rate. The other version runs at 24fps--that's so it can run on AppleTV. We asked Revision3 to host a higher quality version so that the gameplay footage doesn't suffer any more than it has to :)

Well I was a bit depressed cause you guys delayed Friday's COOP episode right before I went on a road trip over the weekend (that would've been a good use of time), but I can't think of a better excuse to postpone the show.. Rev3 has some sweet shows, and bringing COOP to Rev3 is the only thing I could think of that would make their lineup an even bigger buffet of awesome. I love COOP and love being able to relate to what things you guys have experienced. I have a couple friends that are gamers, but I really don't have anyone that I can get into an in-depth discussion with about some gaming-related topic, and on COOP (and formerly the 1UP Show), I felt at home. I wish you guys the best of luck, maybe one day I can stop out in SF and meet you guys--if you would be into it. Heh maybe I'll bring you some exotic liquor like fans of the 1UP Show and the other 1UP podcasts did.
Congratz to your new home here on Rev3 guys, KEEP THOSE SHOWS COMIN.
Peace,
TaylorH.
P.S.: And Matt C if you read this, I was that guy who talking about how sweet your hair was (to which you replied, "I don't even have any") and hammering out the YO MAMA jokes during the 1st live stream test you guys had up while you worked at 1UP/GV/etc. Hah. Don't take me for some kind of perv for that.

Matt! Great move for both parties guys, and amazing work on 1x01, but just one thing... PLEASE don't use that Squarespace mockup blog whatever you do! The design of the current Area5.tv with the gold and blue honeycomb is cool and original, and the Squarespace one during the ad brief on the show was just generic web 2.0 pastel color sans serif junk.

Oh man we'd LOVE to that! We've talked about it a bunch. That kind of show would take a TON of work to produce, so we'd need to find a way to make it make sense financially. Still, at least you know the idea is kicking around and we're behind it! At least with the RebelFM Game Club you can still get the same sort of thing in audio that Backlog was.

Haha! Sorry man :) ... I really appreciate the compliments, though, as I really did make our current site with me own two hands. Well I don't know about buring my eyeballs, I was being pretty facetious with my criticisms of it, I think it would be a great looking blog (the new logo especially) if it was the first one you guys had. It's just that in comparison to the one you designed I thought it was bland :). I think the reason why I like the header on the old one is that it gives me a sci-fi, Halo 2 "ilovebees" vibe.

i wanna talk about KZ2 for a moment. my fan-gasm for the new show was earlier on in the thread. tl;dr i jizz'd in my pants.
now i'm a student so my ass is on budget; tuition and partying come first (in that order?) so i'm the kinda guy who only picks up a coupla games a year.
should i get KZ2 or wait it out for Cod5/6? the reason i havn't picked up KZ2 to begin with is that i reckon its a bit too slow-paced for me, like you guys said on the video, the play style is different, and i kinda prefer cod.
i know it isn't necessarily an good representation but the demo really annoyed me with the pistol, the super slow one shot thing was a nuisance and the melee was pretty frustrating as well.

Well, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is probably coming out in 8 months, so if you can't find $60 by then to get that game, then don't pick up Killzone 2. If you CAN, then get both because Killzone 2 is a pretty damn good first person shooter (multiplayer especially). I don't think that any facet of Guerilla Game's design is near Infinity Ward's other than graphic fidelity, so if you can literally only buy one more game this year and you're a Call of Duty fan then I'd wait.

Congrats on the show guys, the HD looks amazing. Really happy that you guys found such a good spot for the show. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next. Next up the amazing work!
I never saw this show before, so I'll weigh in as a new viewer (I'm also an editor myself):
I think I'm going to like this show more as time goes, especially if the dialogue in the story scenes becomes less "dude" and more film worthy. Speaking of which, I love the 30fps and I highly encourage Rev3 to support it in more shows. Adding to your film cred is the beautiful typography. I was astonished and comforted by such a sudden surge of artistic talent, but it very much contrasts the low-fi nature of Rev3's "old-time" studio production quality. That said, I felt the lighting in many shots was very lackluster for the 30fps quality. I know you guys probably don't have a big budget, and I'm a choosy beggar, but as a fellow artist, I'm not going to fill you full of hot air and give you nothing to improve upon. My biggest fear is that people will misunderstand this show and complain about how long the discussions are, and the controlling heads of Rev3 will force the show to change into bite sized ipod downloads because that's all the rave, completely destroying the philosophical discussion about the fundamental aspects of video games that TRS sometimes awesomely touches on, but is better at movies. I don't say these things out of searing anti-establishment anger against Rev3, I eat everything they do up, but I am harsh in hopes that it'll douse those flames that could burn up an awesome show.
I look forward to more episodes.

Thanks man! This kind of feedback is actually extremely valuable to us. Our lighting, yeah, we know, kinda sucks :) ... in The 1UP Show days we simply worked around it by always shooting in the day time. We're not going to have that luxury this time around as many of our guests will be coming by after normal work hours. That means that when we can start making some money we'll have to get some better lighting gear. First, though, we need another HD camera. Just 'cause we're on Rev3 it actually doesn't mean we're making a ton of dough. We have a lot of audience building we'll need to do, first, and I think, to your other point, that we can do that without having to reduce our content into bite-sized nuggets. Frankly, I think there's enough of that out there already and that people are starting to get used to the idea of longer-format shows online.
Again, thanks for taking the effort to leave such detailed critiques! We take them to heart and don't take it personally :)

Can I just say that I really like the theme. I know some people are going to complain about it, but,
A) It's warm and memorable (not as much as the old theme, but it will be in time), and
B) I think we'd all be kinda depressed if Jane Pinckard (lead singer and originator of "The 1UP Show" and all podcasting at 1UP in 2005) wasn't involved somehow.
I kinda felt this warm and fuzzy feeling when I first heard it, like I was back with some old friends. It's better than most of the other stock Rev3 show themes IMO.

In regards to the Noby Noby Boy discussion and I'd like a compare and contrast with Wii Music, another non-game that got slated for being a non-game. Must say that the global co-op nature of the game sounded fantastic. I should also add that it's great to see in depth discussions like these. It's actually something that's been commented on a lot recently in regards to TRS, which seems to be suffering a little from the amount of content they cover in the time frame they have.

I never watched 1up and had no idea who these guys were.. This episode felt like it was in the "for fans only" section. How they seemed to get the "band back togeather" I could have used a different approach for the first episode seeing that I don't know these guys and I have no connection to them or care who they are.. The Blues Brothers theme just didn't work for me.
I had to force myself to watch the entire episode. Hopefully it will grow on me. I was only a casual view of TRS til about a year ago. So it took about a year to get me into that show. Even though I was a big fan of Alex's, I still didn't watch TRS regularly. But it grew on me.
Maybe this show will. Still to early for me to tell.
But first impressions.... I wasn't impressed.

I can't believe how much I missed 1Up Show, I'm happy to see it continue in Co-Op.
Great pick up Rev3.
And yes, I registered just to say this.

Fair enough! We were actually trying to make this first episode on Revision3 more introductory. The getting the band back together thing was so we could use everyone's name and simply introduce each of us to people that weren't familiar with us. It fell a little flat in my opinion, but that's just because setup/introduction stuff is hard to do in a compelling way--particularly when it's about 10-15% of the full program. Not a lot of time to work with. Still, we didn't want a kind of "Hi, my name is Jason and I used to work at 1UP on The 1UP Show, now I'm working with these guys on CO-OP!" lame exposition. I guess we're hoping that the show will grow on people, kinda like what you mentioned about TRS, and that those who watch will get to know the show and the people on it better in small chunks and over time.

The first show was very cinematic compared to other rev3 shows. I think it would have been good to make the cast very clearly defined and the concept or explanation for the show more at the front. I am definitely excited for a dedicated video game show and am super jealous I am not a part of it!

does anyone realize that there is a podcast called co op on itunes already? i don't think those guys would be happy with you taking their name. and what's funny is that they are a video game review podcast also.

Hooray! I always felt that the one thing that kept holding Rev3 back from being the next incarnation of Tech TV, was a videogame show (TRS sketches about games notwithstanding).
It's great to finally have one. Not only that, but to have a show that already has such a loyal fan following.
Looking forward to many more episodes.

Not that you need to become mainstream, but something of an introduction may help people get to know the format.

Guys, fantastic episode.
I'm glad that you're getting the chance to share your creativity and dedication to more and more people. I also hope that you keep the show inherently yours and avoid catering to the masses. The honest discussions that your show presents truly explore the ins and outs of video gaming, in an industry where it's all too common for a "review" to consist of a few paragraphs and some sort of grade. Shows like yours, Rebel FM, 1UP Yours/Listen UP, etc. undoubtedly push the industry forward and allow people to look at games more like they would a movie or book.
Keep up the great work. You have the great ability to make me interested in a game that I wouldn't normally take a second look at.

Keep up the awesome work Area5 and Rev3. This is truly the 3rd revision of entertainment.

Really liked this. All I used to do was read EGM, and I listened to one episode of Retronauts (they were talking about pokemon :-/) so I don't know these guys at all. But I liked, and I will be watching each week. Love that there is a lot of gameplay footage. Also, hot damn you must be using a lot of storage for all the footage from games and HD stuff.

Great episode, will be one of my weekly downloads from rev3.
eminemdrdre00: the one with 30fps is 720p i belive
1- the 30fps HD is solely to get the frame rate up. As the CO-OP guys pointed out when they came on board and we were doing testing, 24fps looks nice for a cinematic effect, but it's hell on video game footage. The reason we have a 24fps version at all is because certain popular devices won't do 720p30, but only 720p24. We will probably be rolling out the 30fps encode to more shows in the next couple weeks. The bitrate in the 30fps version was a bit higher, but we do tweak that somewhat from show to show - always trying to strike a balance between how it looks and how long it takes to download.
2- The issue someone had with the PSP was likely because for the first few hours of the show's release, we were sending the "large" files into the "small" feed. Oops. Try it again and let us know if it's broken!
3- The Area 5 guys have been *great* to work with. It's really nice to have folks who are both interested in the details, but also willing to compromise when it's necessary. I'd never personally watched the 1up show (I'm not much of a gamer anymore myself, though my wife has an unhealthy relationship with the Resident Evil series), but having seen two eps of CO-OP, I'm kind of a fan now :)

Thanks for clearing this up. That might explain why iTunes wouldn't transfer the podcast to my iPod telling me that this video format wasn't supported.

Why are there 2 different HD versions? Whats the difference? (Other than the obvious "one is 30fps")
One is 30fps, the other is 24fps =)

I had no idea who Revision 3 was until Co-Op joined. I was kind of worried after seeing the intro video posted at 1Up.com. But thankfully, they kept the unique style and didn't change it to be more like the other shows on here (which I'm sure are still great, just not for me)

Matt, Ryan, I've been watching Rev3 shows for a good while now, but it took the announcement and debut of your latest show to push me over the edge and finally sign up here :P
I'm a big fan of yours from your work with The 1Up Show and couldn't be happier with where you wound up. Once I saw the news break on Twitter, I was all over it.
As for my thoughts on this week's show, it's a very solid debut. I'm actually astounded that you started the new season with Noby Noby Boy since its proven so divisive amongst both types of gamers and even Takahashi Keita fans themselves (even manifesting itself in the show segment). Personally, I love it, but I can see what there is to not like about it since the game (and I'm using that word very loosely) challenges you to remember what it's like to have no rules and make your own fun.
The Killzone segment actually moved me more toward wanting the game again since I've been on the fence about it for months. The segments on your shows always had a way of describing a game's shortcomings while emphasizing that it's still a great experience.
Your production values are still freaking ace despite a few shortcomings that can slide for now because of obvious reasons. And no offense, but get Rob some acting lessons. :)
Now, I know ads are necessary, and you handled the product placement in this episode pretty well, but I can't see you being able to keep it up for too long without adding an unnecessary amount of work, so, in the future, a simple "blank was brought to you by blank" would suffice. You probably already know this, but I'm, you know, just sayin'.
I really enjoyed this week's episode and look forward to next week's inevitable RE5/? (if it's MadWorld, I'll love you [more] forever) episode.
There's so much potential in all your efforts, and I find it inspiring. I'm glad you've found a new home.
Peace out.

Yeah, the Noby Noby Boy segment turned out to be much better than I had anticipated going into it, but we knew it was a risk putting it in the first episode in front of a new audience. Still, I think it did a good job of pointing out our "range," if it can be called that, when it comes to games coverage.
The ads thing is going to be tricky, definitely. We're open to integrated advertising (a la Squarespace) but it's absolutely true that we can't do a full, edited segment for every advertiser we have. Most of the time the "The following segment is brought to you by..." will suffice, but we've been given creative license to make that stuff funny/relevant as well so that we can have fun doing it and people might want to listen/watch just in case something funny happens.
And yeah Kajika, Jane and Jonathan's new theme song was a very big deal for us! They pulled it off SO well :)

Sweet new podcast, guys. Been a faithful Diggnation-viewer since the sun was born and felt at home with Co-Op right away. I like how you thoroughly analyze the games both objective and subjective - The last part often being forgotten by many reviewers, yet has a massive impact on gamers choices, depending on previous experiences and general preferences.
I suck at explaining these things, but keep up what you've done so far and I will keep loving it!
EDIT: OH.. And are you guys on Twitter?

Matt, Ryan, and all the Co Op crew, great great lead off performance on rev3. Ive been a faithful 1up show/co op fan for quite the while, and im glad you guys found a nice solid home after the little (or big) speed bump a few months ago.
Rev3 is an awesome fit for you guys, and im extremely happy that all of you have a bit more "stability" now.
Noby Noby boy wasnt my favorite segment (as im personally not a fan of the game style) but you guys did a bang up job on it, and as Seithe stated, the Killzone seg put me over the edge, and i ended up nabbing a copy of KZ2. Great game.
I might add, that for sponsor clips/segments, i thought the blend in for the squarespace plug was awesome, but if you want to use a bit less episode time, maybe try what diggnation/trs show do, and toss up quick sponsor plugs done by you dudes through out the show, or all at once... maybe into one big skit?
regardless, keep up the stellar job boys, i look forward to every time i see a new unplayed episode in my itunes.
Cheers!
All I can say is that I'm so freakin' happy right now after watching that show that I'm going to go be nice to someone. Mouth full of awesomeness.
