The guy who wrote the letter about the IPA is both right and wrong. A traditional formulation of IPA is designed for extended shelf live. However, traditional formulations of IPA are nearly undrinkable by modern pallets.

Most beers marketed as "IPA" are actually extra-hoppy versions of Pale Ale that are not as heavily alcohohic or bitter as traditional IPA. Plus, unpasteurized craft beers of any kind other than wickedly heavy hopped and highly alcoholic old ales and barlywines go bad very quickly. The trade-off is that barlywines and old-ales must be aged in order to be drinkable.

Yes, traditional IPA was designed for a long shelf-life, what it wasn't designed for was taste. In an era where sanitation was poor and microbioligy was not well understood, most beers actually sucked pretty badly by modern standards. It was more important that the beer not be rancid when it reached the troops in India than actully taste good. Face it, if you're a British solder stationed in India, you'll drink anything.

The unpasturized modern versions of craft IPA are toned down and refined for modern pallets and to be consumed shortly after production. They are just as unstable as other beers.

However, when beer goes bad it effects only the taste. There's nothing that will grow in beer that will actually kill you. So, drink up.

Is it just me or is the HD Quictime version not HD? It seems grainy just like last week.

Compare it to previous HD versions and its pretty poor quality.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if there's a problem with the camera.

re:
Hey everyone -

If you pay close attention, you may notice that Diggnation this week isn't quite the full resolution that you're used to. We had a problem with some of the equipment (cough cough hippie glenn cough). Luckily the show still looks good and we apologize for the inconvenience. You'll notice the same thing for episode 193 that we just shot with the same equipment glitch.

Thanks in advance (read: we hope you accept our apology).

Prager

It was explained in last weeks episode thread...just fyi

Well it is kind of personal... you know some folks don't like to talk about their premature release issues.

Hope you understand.

This episode has a strange vibe... Like they are trying to tone things down and explain more things (about the show).

Guess they're trying to cater to possible new viewers that will find them on Fallon tonight? :\

This would make a lot more sense if it weren't paired with the giant penis destroying the cityscape at the beginning. "WELCOME NEW VIEWERS!"

i don't know if it bugs anyone else, but Kevin has been im-ing and otherwise reading/typing on his computer more and more during taping, and it is obvious that he is half-paying attention. seeing his im list during this episode made me think of the people in classes who type really loud while the professor is lecturing, and you can tell Kevin is not really into what is being talked about since he's tweeting/im-ing. just throwing it out there Kev, your show is half an hour, pay attention.

And they're not drinking. It was also very short.

I agree. Turn off twhirl for 30-45 minutes a week

I like the 45-60 min. Diggnations, these 30 minute ones seem rather rushed. The guys rarely go off on tangents like they used too, which was always pretty fun to watch.

I understand that time is an issue for these guys, especially when filming two shows in one day, but adding an extra 30 minutes to the day (15 extra per show) is hardly schedule shattering.

Worst. Episode. Ever.

Seen every episode ever. Never scanned before, never shut it down before. Did both this time.

This is the episode Jimmy Fallon fans are gonna find. 'Tis a shame.

Might be time to retire the show. Tired of them talkin to Hippy and Prager. Tired of half the show being sponsors. Tired of "moving on" because the two are ignoring each other and not having a conversation with either us or each other anymore.

They are just reading powerpoint bulletpoints these days.

Sorry. Loved you guys for ever.

But seeing that neither one of you interact here anymore, I'm wasting my bits.

Woah there... Although it felt rushed and yeah, wasn't the best episode ever, calling for them to retire the show is perhaps a bit harsh. Personally I found some good stuff in it, and I love the Hippy/Prager interaction.

They can't all be winners. But 15 minutes of free funny is better than no minutes of it. Or something more eloquent...

The Jimmy Fallon viewers are going right to Digg.com. Kevin mumbled "Diggnation" he never once mentioned Revision3. I don't think we have to worry about any unacquainted Jimmy Fallon viewers seeing this episode.

It does seem a bit odd now that you mention it. They were on the show to promote Diggnation, but didn't really talk about the show or Revision3. If they talked about Revision3 they could have mentioned TRS as well.

Anyway, this episode was also kinda just "eh" for me. Hopefully the SXSW show is better and sort of a throw back to the old days with lots of tangents. They shouldn't have to worry about time being an issue during a live show.

I am a loyal fan of diggnation from Kuwait , and I find it disappointing to have 30 min show. I mean even dlprager didn't edit this episode at the standards he used to show us before. I am talking about the low quality red question mark that appeared when alex was trying to explain the mountain time zone.

I demand the next show to be 1h 30min otherwise i'll unfollow all of u on twitter!

That episode sucked. It seems as if they don't want to do it these days. I think I'll give the show a miss from now on. Commercialism has ruined Diggnation

This episode was bad. If the show is going to be only 30 mins from now on, I don't think I will be watching anymore.

Despite it being shorter, I liked this episode quite a lot better than last week's episode. More interesting stories, and more engaging conversations. Last week's was horrible, though. It was just background noise for me. This week's was good.

Couple points about this story..

Kevin mentions Archaeology as one of the "dream jobs that would suck". But, he says it's because you would get sick of digging in the dirt all the time. Actually, the digging never gets boring because it's the suspenseful part of the discovery. The sucky part of is for every hour you spend in the field discovering things, there are 20 hours in labs and libraries researching, cataloging, filing, ARGH!

The other point: If anyone thought Brewmeister would be a dream job because all you'd do is sit around and drink beer all day...? WTF dude? You seriously thought that's what a Brewmeister did? OMG!

awww I'm telling .... LoL Great show...Has anybody dived down there in the ocean to see what it really was !?!? I mean Hippie may be the first if nobody hurry's up....The show was alright, but i have to agree with everybody else where they mention that the length of the show seemed to have restricted the random tangents that kevin & alex usually do..

Hmmm...I just went through and read through these comments and although I agree (Despite my "Nope" in the other thread) to some extent, I think we have to remember how long they have been doing this and how much they have made us laugh and entertained us...I think they deserve for us to give them a few freebies and not-so-good episodes once in a while.

I am sure we will all be satisfied this Wed. with the release of the live show. If you are really that unsatisfied, why not go back and watch a retro-episode about santa's cream or sheepmaster 2000's...
