I asked the two main guys via Twitter but they never ever answer their @replies.

Anyway I watch on an Apple TV and the 30fps file did not sync over saying it was incompatible. I can use the other HD file just fine, like all the other Rev3 shows I watch.

So I was just curious, is this special extra hq file only for XBOX users and on the computer? What about PS3? What is this file for?

Also is there really much difference in the two HD files? Is it noticeable?

Thanks in advance for your help... :)

Apple TV can only play 720p files at 24 frames per second. The 30fps video was created because the gameplay footage looks much better at the higher framerate. So if you want to watch the show on an Apple TV my guess is you'll want to download the 24fps vid file.

BTW, if you have an Xbox 360 or PS3 the 30fps file should play no problem.

The 24 fps is related to film industry standard of 24fps and to limit the amount of network traffic the unit will take up on a home network.

Fun facts (though some are still under scientific study and revision):
1. Many movies are still filmed and shown @ 24fps in theaters.
2. SD television has a maximum frame rate of 29.97 fps NTSC and 30 fps for PAL
3. 30 FPS is the highest frame rate the eye can see.
4. The reason HD is shot @ 60 fps is to hold the additional sound and tracking tracking data needed for syncing and surround sound.
5. The reason why newer games are best viewed @ 60 fps or higher is because of the frame drops from hardware lag so they become unnoticeable with the human eye. That FPS counter in the corner of games isn't really accurate to "real" frame rate because of the drop frames that don't get counted.

Yeah, the 24fps file, as we understand it, was created specifically for Apple TV viewers. We asked them to offer the 30fps version simply so our show and the gameplay footage could look as awesome as possible and they got right to it :)

And we "hungry for high-quality internet TV content" viewers appreciate it :D

No. And it doesn't take much to figure that out for yourself. If you have ever played a PC game you would probably have discovered that it isn't by now, but if you're console only just try jumping from something like Left 4 Dead (30) to Call of Duty 4 or World at War (60fps). I thought I read somewhere that the maximum the eye can see was somewhere between 60 and 70fps, but with mostly diminishing returns after about 45 or 50. Modern motion blur in games also makes it difficult to attach "realism" to a higher framerate as blur makes motion more realistic. 45fps playing Crysis with excellent motion blur probably looks better than 60fps with none. But I guess motion blur has nothing to do with film and video which was the topic at hand, so that's a bit of a tangent. :D

Actually, the human eye has no technical "frame rate." Since the image you perceive and sense of motion you detect is actually completely constructed in your brain. The motion on a movie screen or video game display is an optical illusion. The quality of that illusion depends on how well it is constructed. Thus, adding the blur you've mentioned fools the eye into perceiving more fluid motion.
