View Full Version : Diggnation Criticism

Okay, before I say my thing, I'd just like to point out that, not only am I a Diggnation fan (watched every episode, some twice) I was a SS fan and quit watching when Kevin left. Hell, I'm basically a fanboy. So please don't rip me up just because I have something critical to say about something we all love.
I saw the message by Alex and Kevin a few episodes ago about keeping it real and how they will not bow to their sponsors. But in the last few episodes I have been hearing plenty of Sony and even some Apple bashing but I have yet to hear anything critical of the Zune, Zune software or XBox. I remember a time when Windows bashing was a standard, especially from Kevin but lately I haven't even heard the littlest comment.
If there is something in episode 76 that proves me wrong, or if someone has already mentioned this then I apologize for bringing it up. Also, I am aware that Digg has been enjoying the PS3 collapse these last few months so those stories have been pretty much front and centre. I dunno, it just seems like a real pro-MS show these days, and let's face it MS gives a ton of fodder for the occasional negative comment.
I'm still a huge fan of course, and I'm sure they wouldn't actively cater to the sponsors, but it would sure be a load off my mind to hear Kevin tear up Windows like in the old days.

They kinda like the XBox, and I'm not sure there's really been a lot to say about the Zune yet.

Don't forget that Alex is an XBOX fanboy. Kevin has no love for microsoft, he's proven so on many occasions.

When alex's laptop wouldnt load gmail he said "you gotta reboot, it's windows" under his breath. I thought that was funny as hell.

Yea, not really much to rip on when there's no story to it. Zune? PS3? You can only drag out those jokes for so long :P I don't see it at selling out but more as passing up on old, dragged on jokes.
And I think they both pretty much said that they enjoyed playing online with friends on the 360. (BTW: What was Alex's and Kevin's gamertags?? Would love to play some gears of war with you guys, make it a live event!!)
Besides, the best part is couting how many tanjents they go off of in one story lol. That should be a drinking game in addition to "Here's the thing" :D

I kind of found it sad actually. Most geeks know that if a page isn't loading it's hardly the computer that is at fault, unless Alex has had massive problems like that where the only way he "fixt" it was to reboot. Otherwise, that is just stupid advice.

Judging for the level of crap that Window 95-Me were. Windows XP is a masterwork.

Very true. I don't like Windows but really, XP isn't that bad of an operating system, other than all the spyware and viruses of course.

And why wouldn't they? MS is making the very smart move of throwing their products behind Diggnation, which is going to solidify their market share for at least another generation. But at the same time Revision3 is working on the next-gen ad model, throwing out the old school TV system that we've been using since the 1950's and giving us content we can trust. I know there is no contractual obligation for them to steer clear of MS criticizing, but the pressure must be there.
By the way, why the heck does Diggnation show up as a misspelled word in the Diggnation forums?

Vista will have to sponsor them just to avoid being slammed.

I'm not even sure they've played with it yet. They may have their stuff stay about it once they do, though.

He was being sarcastic and making a remark about how Windows is never stable. ;)

LOL, take the funding then slam Vista and claim that they were getting the name out there! Does promoting always have to be positive? ;)

I haven't had any viruses or spyware for over a year now on XP, and the the stuff that I got was because I was being stupid and using poor p2p programs like Limewire.
Anyways, Re: original post:
I don't think that Kevin and Alex are being pro MS or selling out or anything now, I just think that they'll make jokes and rip on certain companies if there's something funny to say. I don't think that it's a big deal whether or not they're pro- or anti- certain companies as long as the show is entertaining and funny and somewhat informative.

My impression is that they do not like the Zune. Have you seen the Leo Laporte video ripping it?
I am not sure, and frankly am thinking about one, if it can work with a Mac.

I think for people who watch video the Zune seems cooler since it's got a huge screen. iPod is the standard though, so the next mp3 player I buy will be an iPod probably.
I saw that video, it was hilarious.

The reason it matters to me is that I want to see if this ad model actually works. If you start a business and run in the red for most of its duration, then finally start getting some serious customers (the advertisers) it's hard to take their money and then report things that would piss those customers off. Advertising corrupts news so it would be nice to see Revision3 set a new standard, but I can see it being really hard for Kevin to say "Thanks for this big bag of cash that keeps us afloat Microsoft. Anyway, people, this is why Windows sucks." (for example)
I know they've said that they will keep it real, but it's hard when actually faced with those choices. With 100 popular stories to pick from, why not avoid talking about the one that rips up a major sponsor? Plenty of entertaining news to go around. I'd just really like to see the proof of what they claim, I guess.

All right, I just saw episode 77. Forget every concern I've brought up.

Did you ever stop to think that Kevin and Alex don't have to hate everything Microsoft does? Maybe they like a lot of the current stuff? Just because you got kicks out of Microsoft ripping doesn't mean they have to do it. This goes regardless of whether or not they just did. Its the principle that they CAN have a positive 'tude towards MS if they're doing things right.
