View Full Version : RE5 charging for multiplayer... wtf?

This forum needs something to talk about!... so I figured this was a good subject to go on.

"Capcom says Versus mode will be available "a few weeks" after the game's release and will cost 400 ($5)." - Joystiq

I for one think it's okay if they charge if the game comes out at a lower price point. Seeing as how the game is still 60 bucks... I'm calling shenanigans!

Buying this game used confirmed.

It's weird to me how we, as gamers, have become accustomed to being nickle and dimed like this. For one thing, I don't understand why they would bother with an RE vs. mode to begin with. It has zero chance of supplanting any of the other options we've already got. I cannot claim to know the mind of all gamers everywhere, however, so I shall gladly munch crow if it turns out I am mistaken. Though I'm not ;p

We're covering RE on next Tuesday's show. I feel bad that we didn't know about this at the time of the taping or it would have been part of the discussion :(

I guess I shouldn't complain too much.. I mean I don't have to buy it. I just hope no one else does either because I would hate for them to think this is how they should be doing things from now on.

Arg... if only I had hope in other people not being tempted!

Capcom to EA - "I'll see your horse armor and raise you multiplayer"

If you guys ustream again next week, you can use that to discuss stuff like this that comes out after that week's show but before next week's. So... we can talk about it on next week's ustream. lol.

About the topic at hand though. I think that the idea is really dumb. Especially so close to the release.

Capcom's been something of a double edged sword this generation.

Personally, I'm totally conflicted with almost every design, technical, and marketing decision they've made this time around. For every revolution in game design theory they've implemented this gen, there's a pratfall. Every opportunity for great, truly additional content is squandered on forcing customers to pay for content they've already purchased via ~120kb unlock keys.

Thankfully, I'm pretty certain RE5's Versus Mode will actually be DLC and not just an unlock that everyone has already bought. In this case, I can understand it to some degree. RE5's been in development ever since RE4 launched, and it has been nothing short of financially staggering for them. They're looking for new ways to recoup their losses. It's not a decision that I as a gamer or consumer can really get behind, but I can come to terms with it. I also take solace in knowing that I needn't buy it if it doesn't look appealing to me :)

I'm interested in finding out exactly what the gameplay mechanics are for the new mode, but I'm reserving judgment as to whether or not it will feel necessary. I'd also wager it's also at least 3 months off since Capcom takes their time releasing promised new modes and not in a good way. Slightly OT, but they really dropped the ball on SFIV by not including a full planned DLC pack on retail copies of the discs.

Bummer... I would have really enjoyed that.

I have gone on and on about how I feel when it comes to RE5 but I guess I will reiterate. See, I was supporting both the controls and this dlc when I thought that RE 5 would be a 20+ hour experience. Meaning that I thought it would have more than 20 hours of content.

Sigh... I feel like I've posted this all a billion times, the bottom line is that I only just found out about how short the game is and now I am no longer supporting either the controls nor the dlc. With only 12 hours of content I now feel that Capcom should have nixed the RE4 controls in favor of straight up gears controls and included competitive multi-player, I mean what have they been doing for the past 4 years to end up with only 12 hours of content?

It seems to me like the new director wanted to take a Gears of War approach to the games structure which I think is great even though I really wanted a real sequel to RE4. I would have been behind them all the way if they had gone balls out and just made a Gears competitor like they obviously wanted to. I think it would be cool if the vs includes an updated set of controls that are more like Gears.

RE4 includes more than 30 hours of content and is the Horror Epic of the decade. I'm not saying that it's as scary as silent hill, not by any stretch of the imagination. But RE4 is a horror game. I mean the game starts you off in the frickn woods for crying out loud and right after the first fight (which isn't crazy like the one that's 20 minuted in) it gets quiet again and as you start to progress you begin to hear whimpering up ahead from a dog whose paw is stuck in a bear trap. The feeling you get is something right out of Pet Cemetery. There is nothing like this in RE5. Which is not a bad thing...

Other than Horror, something that makes RE4 epic is that along with the 30+ hour experience, the games structure in more non linear with backtracking which is a good thing when it triggers new content. This adds a sense of place and discovery and some of it is even optional. lol, the first section of RE4 is 12 hours long! That's not to mention the Castle and the Island! Some would argue that RE4 was unnecessarily long, see what happens when you say things like that! LMAO! jk, jk, ok not really. I mean, I thought that when we found out RE5 was more linear that it meant there would be more lv's in it but it just meant that it was short and more like Gears of Wars single player design, short and linear. How many times did I say short and linear right there?

Where are the save stations and attache cases?

Sigh, OH WELL! Bring on Escape from Butcher Bay and QUICK! After waiting 4 years it won't be easy to get over this ATROCITY...

The more I hear about this game the less I like. Maybe I won't even pick this up used... bummer. Maybe I should just go buy part 4 for the Wii since I never got around to playing that one.

Meh...

I would recommend just that, although I'm sure I make RE5 sound worse than it is...

Remember that you can stick in a game cube controller if your not quite getting along with the Wii controls. I found that the new controls would be "perfect" for RE4 with a little tweaking but unfortunately you can't use the mote for aiming a sniper rifle and there is no bound box option like Prime 3 so when your aiming with the mote you still have to move the camera with the nun-chuck (I found this to be royal pain in the ass). Also, the mote changes the laser sight in to a reticule... regardless, I used the mote for the entire first section of the game. Once I got to the Castle I found it necessary to use a high power sniper rifle so I ditched the fancy controls in favor of the Wave Bird.

It's a slippery slope and we're half-way down the hill at this point.

The only power you have (and it is a real one) is your wallet. Don't buy it. It's just going to be a shitty throw away MP experience with a tiny community.

Also, take any shitty feeling you have about Capcom management, and the next time you're thinking about buying some mediocre game from them, don't buy that either.

Money is a vote of confidence, the problem with gaming is that the majority of the market is too young to earn it or respect it enough.

Anyone remember when this series was about horror and single player plus it had clever puzzles to solve?

Can we get back to that please.
Now it's just some mainstream shooter series.

I think the problem is that it wants to be a mainstream shooter but it doesn't want to change from the way it has always controlled.

I'm okay with it changing its style. If it want's to be a shooter it needs to fix its controls. For once I agree with X-play. This is a 3 star game wearing 5 star clothing.

RE4.5 :left 4 GOW?

Guess this is what happens when Mikami left capcom with PG games. He also stated he didn't like RE5 in how they went with it.
