Resident Evil 5 and Halo Wars bring in Dan "Shoe" Hsu, Patrick Klepek, Anthony Gaellgos and Sterling McGarvey while we at Area 5 try our hand at creating some in-house promos.

I just watched episode 0102 and I don't think that I've ever seen a better episode of the 1up Show/CO-OP. Cant wait for episode 0103!

Also, I may give in and pick up RE5 after hearing some positive things about single player and replay value.

You sir are a traitor... I thought we agreed to rent it or at least wait for it to go down in price!!! haha... just joking. I haven't watched this ep yet but I plan on doing so tomorrow, when I'm not so tired.

lol, I think that I would have gotten it anyways because I'm a graphics whore and RE5 just so happens to have some of the best art, period...

Also, as of this discussion, I'm really getting mixed reviews of the single player, I mean most of what I said in the other post is true and a lot of it is mentioned in the RE5 discussion in episode 0102. It's the different stories in this discussion regarding single player and CO-OP that are getting me pumped and quite frankly, no matter how I sounded in my other post, I've really been waiting to hear from the guys on this one before making the decision to get RE5 or not (if I remember correctly, all I said was that I'm against the sold separately multi-player).

I'm still not supporting the dlc until further notice. I'm not really sure that it would work unless Gears style controls were added for it, although when I was supporting the dlc, I had said that I thought it would bring a whole new meaning to Stop and Pop. This was of course when I thought that there was more that 20 hours of content in RE5. Playing a game more than once doesn't count

Controls for single player are fine because of how the ai is set up. Don't get me wrong, considering that the core gameplay was kept from RE4, I still wish that they had kept the rest of it, including the lv design. But like the guys say, it was all streamlined to make CO-OP work better and from what I can tell, that was a complete success. I'm still going to play single player first.

GREAT EPISODE!

WOAH!!! loved the squarespace ad!

i felt a little weird killing the zombies until after chapter 3, then it does get to e like a "ham-fisted" take on the exploitation.

and TOTALLY saw the thrid take, guys playing with each other, ball grabbing? hahah great laugh though.

@ nazar3ne.... the single player thing is the ONLY thing thats holding me back from not already owning the game. (aside from the prerequisite sometimes very awkward RE controls that ryan said we have learned to appreciate) it reminded me alot of GoW2, but GoW2 felt like it COULD be played COOP, not HAD to. but, i honestly think that if you have a great core group of dudes you can CO OP with, and you dont mind playing a game over again for more replay factor, its a great choice, and is almost a must have.

@ the CO OP dudes, great show. definitely one of my favorite shows to date. partly due to the two huge games you were covering, but mostly due to the new found enthusiasm, the in between sponsors done great, and the skits for the intro of the show were awesome. the last "intro" was hilarious. Use it!

using TRS music for the "guy fun" intro with the wiggling joystick in the background was hilarious, as was Fresh's "grab em by the balls." hilarious.

good call on having Shoe in for Halo Wars, and the way that there were the two contrasting views on RE5 (coop and single), and Ryan, Matt, and Sterling were the only three talking about it, was concise, informative, and fit perfectly for a 'review'.

This episode confirms my weekly viewership, good work guys.

Was it intentional to use the same music that TRS uses in one of their segment intros?

Loved the sponsor segments, now that's how you get folks to pay attention to sponsors!

Haha! Not even! I'm pretty sure that was just an Apple Loop included with Final Cut Pro :) -- oops!

It's good to see that the spirit of the 1UP Show is intact at this new home. I really enjoyed this episode.

I'm liking this new home for the show. Free HD downloads, unintrusive ads, and the same great content as before all make for a great show. Co-op is once again something to look forward to every week!

The intro ads were fine fine. That girl has a very seductive voice.

The Squarespace ad was inventive. Not sure if I want you to take that kind of license every episode, but you did show how easy Squarespace is to use.

Whoever read the Netflix ad, please stop! Just read it in your normal voice. Or have the girl who does the intro do that one also.

Rest of the episode was awesome, but fix the ads please.

Lol are you serious? I actually am watching the ads now, instead of zoning out or skipping them (I try not to, but you can only be reminded of netflix, which I already use, and godaddy so much). Tho I do agree with that dudes voice... corny as hsit.

Anyway as for the actual show. Coming from someone who has never seen the 1up show, I think this is awesome. The production values are very good. And I love the concept (just bullshitting). You get a better feel for a game as opposed to the status quo reviews.

Lovin' this show. We always looked for a gaming podcast on revision3 and after watching this episode, it affirms that they truly have got something good here. Good job guys.

Guys are really comfortable in front of the camera, the ads and introductions are creative, everyone seems to really have a passion for video games, camera work is unique and a real nice change from the typical set a camera up and film technique, set changes are nice, integration with video-game footage is seamless. Professional show right here and it shows. Nice work.

storyline was hilarious. the full version of their first attempt had me l-ing-o-l.

I've got two sections left in RE5 (been playing it co-op with my girlfriend) and definitely love it as a co-op experience. We did the same thing where we carry/upgrade different weapons. I feel like the whole race thing has been over blown from the beginning. It's not like this is Ethnic Cleansing: The Video Game. Look at Sheva, for christ sake. What's the last video game that has featured a strong, African female lead? None ever?

The episode was really great. Just as good or better than any episode of the 1UP Show. It was also funny, I mean funny to the point where I was laughing until I got a headache, now I have a headache though....

@spiceydicey... the single player thing is the ONLY thing that's holding ME back from not already owning the game as well. Sterling has shed some very positive light on single player simply by saying things like Sheva is conservative with ammo... every review that I've checked out has said that she doesn't conserve ammo.

Edit: Also, Replay Factor or Value is something that RE5 has but your still just replaying the same 12 hours of content. RE4 includes more than 30 hours of content and also has high replay value. Big difference. Still, for all of the 9s that RE5 has been getting, I haven't heard anything positive about single player until now. And I trust this source far more than any other.

Great show guys.

Knowing that the music on the last "promo" wasn't spoofing TRS's music actually makes it slightly less funny, but that's OK.

I think you fit in at Revision3 very well.

Dude I just finished watching Steve's farewell video and I was choked up and you guys have to bring that "TRS intro" video with the boys. OMG. I actually spit water all over the screen! I can't believe that is possible. Overall, it's a great show. I like the square space ad, definitely innovative. Glad to see you guys talk abotu the big games again. love to see shoe. Patrick was too funny to be in that group. Keep it up.

Now i learn not to drink anything when I watch the in between segment. I don't want to make a mess all over my computer again.

They've been doing this for 3 years before they got fired. of course they are confortable in front of the camera. but i have never seen them THIS comfortable in front of the camera.

Are you kidding?! Matt putting on the goofy "tv guy" voice at least gives us something to chuckle at during the ad segments!

As far as the show itself goes, I think it may be my favorite episode of Coop/The 1Up Show ever. There may have been maybe one in there, about Q3 2007 where the episode had a segment on The Orange Box and the guys played it on 360 so they were talking about Half Life 2: Episode Two controls on a console pad... It had Ryan O'Donnell and if memory serves me right it also had Matt Leone and Shawn Elliott... at the very least this episode is tied for first place with that 1Up Show in my mind.

The doubleheader of games this week was stellar, as well as the cast of guest players. Camera work was great as always, editing with gameplay was seamless and looked great in 30fps MP4, and the editing in general really cemented the style for people who are perhaps new to Area 5's work since the move to Revision 3 (having a couple seconds of game audio over a black screen before it leads into the visuals, other great little flourishes).

I love TRS, but they could really learn a thing or two from your Squarespace ad. :) I hope you can come up with inventive ways to promote your sponsors like this on a fairly regular basis.

I can't wait to see what other guests you guys get on the show in the future. I'm kinda hoping to see Shawn Elliot again. And if you can get Shane and Nick periodically, that'd be awesome. Not that you guys are lesser, you're not, just suggesting some guests from the good ol' days. :)

I'm so glad you're on Rev3. They needed this. A perfect match.

Um... three guys badly comped on a greenscreen with game footage behind them? One of them saying that was "totally rad"? Using OUR (completely free and open to anyone) Apple loop? Do I smell the beginning of a show war? Is that what you guys are trying to start?

;)

I don't usually like pulling back the curtain all that much, because I feel it's funnier to the audiences if they can pick out the references themselves. We do make nods to a ton of random media in our episodes; It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia gets spoofed/stolen from a lot around these parts. But now I feel somewhat obligated to show you all what inspired the last segment from this episode.

If you're not already a fan of Fred & Sharon's movies, you must have a look:

Another inspiration for this episode was Liam Lynch's Wilkinson's Family Restaurant:

Hope you all enjoy!

But I would love to do some TRS/CO-OP crossover. I'm fairly certain we can work something out, right Jeff? :)

I didn't see that butterfly from ustream!

Awesome episode. Frankly, your vid 1up's Fred and Sharon's (though I would've picked number 2 for using the camera as a gun).

I'm tempted to pick up RE5 yet again after the segment. I just hope that by the time I get it, the online community is still there, or I get it cheap enough that I won't care about the co-op as much. But got other old games to finish up first.

TRS/Co-op crossover has to be done! And in the non-review segment too where you guys duel to the death..in like Street Fighter or something.

Firstly, I just want to say, Welcome back guys! I've been a fan for a while and missed the hilarious shows you all do, glad to see you all are doing well.

As for RE5 I'm enjoying how easy it was to just pick up and play. I tried the single player mode and didn't have any problems with it till I switched from amateur to veteran mode. The AI(Sheva) just can't keep up in veteran, but in any other mode it's quite easy to just run through the lvls. I quickly sent a game invite to a friend and refused to play through the game without him. The experience has been more enjoyable that way.

Everything else from the environments, bosses, and the snakes jumping out of crates was put together really beautifully. So far I'm very satisfied with the outcome of the game.

Hey guys,

Loved the show this week; it made the notion of Halo Wars palatable for me :P

Important thoughts on the segment, though: Was your shooting location one of those 11th hour decisions? Because Anthony almost completely fell into the background/shadow and was damn near impossible to see. I can't imagine you'd let that happen unless there was no way around it. There was some decent fill lighting happening with Patrick, so, I'd have suggested having them swap positions to help bring him out more since his face is naturally obstructed.

RE5 Segment thoughts: Sterling felt like he was right at home with you guys, and I'd love to see him on the show again. The locale didn't feel cramped and last minute, love seeing you guys chat it up on the rough streets of San Fran. I'm glad that you lightly touched on some of the social impacts of the game without delving too deeply into the matter. I'd imagine that part of the discussion actually lasted a bit longer than you'd have expected during filming, but it was cut tastefully since it's the elephant in the living room.

Anyway, awesome guests this week in Klepek and McGarvey.

Oh, yeah, the SquareSpace advertainment at the beginning had me and the woman cracking up :D

Keep rocking over London.

Loved the ending (the complete first skit). That was serious comedy gold and totally reminded me of when I was 13 and writing for those amateur sites.

One request: Can make the spoiler vampire a bit bigger? It's hard to notice on the iPod screen.

So is there any preview/conference/expo/convention/editorial stuff coming soon or more released game discussions? I actually enjoy it the way it is, but variety will probably help and is inevitable so I'm just wondering if it's soon.

Anthony Gallegos is my hero. Please make him sing a song on your show, or talk about something qwerky, like he does on the podcasts.
