I'm looking for a great bad film to watch this weekend, any recommendations?

For instance, movies like:

Dead Alive
Evil Dead Trilogy
Riki-Oh: The Story of Riki

Looks like you are looking for a Gauntlet film. As soon as I saw this post I was reminded of the "Guide to Gauntlet." You may remember Jonathan London from geekdrome a while back with Dan Trachtenberg. Well...he started his own podcast/community and one of the columns one of the members does over there is titled "Guide to the Gauntlet." It is supposed to be the best of the "worst movies."

Here's the link to the column...

If you haven't seen Heat Vision and Jack (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363668/), you must. It's only 30 minutes, but it is funny.

Intro with Ben Stiller:

So are you talking like bad good or just so bad it's laughable? Because some of those movies are enjoyable just no budget.

Some suggestions:
Bubba-Ho Tep
My Name is Bruce
Super Mario Bros.
Street Fighter
Black Sheep (New Zealand film not Chris Farley)
Airheads
Fido

Lake Placid - funniest movie of its genre ever.

@aerodash84 ... you put Fido on the list?? Hmmm. OK. Awesomely bad it is. It is so bad it is awesome. Redefines the zombie movie.

Just putting it in because it seems to fit the list of movies by OP. I really liked it. I mean if Evil Dead and Dead Alive are listed I'd then have to put Shaun of the Dead up there. I guess I'm not sure what the definition of what the recommendations should be. I go by if you like those movies you gotta see these as well.

Also, I really enjoyed Lake Placid as well. If Fido doesn't belong I'd say we should take Lake Placid down and replace it with anything on Sci-Fi or SyFy. Chupacabra (sp?), Shark Attack, Piranha, Sabretooth, Leprechaun, Jason X, Freddy Vs. Jason. Actually those are some of my recommendations. I've only seen Freddy Vs. Jason, but most of those movies are pretty laughable I'd say.

"Australia" was so bad it was almost good. I recommend you force someone to watch it with you. Make sure it's early enough that you can't fall asleep.

I'm going to go out on a limb and recommend Troll 2.

Also, Riki-Oh is one of the best movies ever made.

One of my favorite bad movies is Cherry 2000, starring Melanie Griffith as a "Tracker" hired by a city slicker to travel into the gang-infested badlands to find an original chassis for his robot wife after his current one goes bad.

Pure gold, people.

When I was a kid my cousin and I watched Troll as one our first horror movies ever. I may just have to watch Troll 2 with him sometime in the future.

Hard Ticket to Hawaii. The amount of insanity contained within this movie is indescribable, you just have to see it.

I take issue with Evil Dead and Dead Alive being labeled bad movies, even with the good descriptor appended to the front. As aero said, they might be low budget but they weren't bad movies.

Two so bad they're good movies are Showgirls and Wicker Man (The Nick Cage remake). Both are unintentionally hysterical, very rewatchable and quotable.

Hell, Showgirls has gotten so popular as a bad movie that they made a box set with supplies for a drinking game packaged in. They keep screening Showgirls here at one of the Drafthouse locations with somebody doing a live commentary over it making fun of it. One of these days I'm going to have to make it to that.

I'll have to second Showgirls. Actually along with those recommendations, has anyone seen Next. Nicolas Cage can see into the future. I haven't personally, but the premise alone. Actually, now I have a few more bad/awesome movies. Punisher (80's) and Captain America. I remember liking Captain America when I was younger, and have never seen Punisher. Just from the sounds of the things in Punisher sound pretty laughable. Then there's also Masters of the Universe, which I also enjoyed way back when.

I love Nicolas Cage movies. They are all awesomely bad - even Ghost Rider. OK one REALLY bad Cage movie people should avoid unless they are doing a gauntlet of sucky remakes ... Bangkok Dangerous. What a steaming pile of crap that one is.

My wife has the same reaction to Steven Seagal movies, equally awesomely bad ... well except for the straight to DVD ones which are downright awful and a waste of plastic (but nowhere near as bad as Bangkok Dangerous).

a knights tale. The whole Chaucer entrance speeches and seeing a mid-evil crowd clapping the beat to Queen's We Will Rock You were so ridiculous, they were awesome.

btw, around the 30 sec mark you can see a couple of the extras in the stands completely off beat. funny, yet painful to watch.

Just to echo what I think I heard on /Filmcast, it's his post Leaving Las Vegas work which increasingly embraces the bad. His earlier career is filled with a ton of legitimate gems.

I'm hoping Knowing will break that trend, but that's more wanting to see Proyas live up to the talent exhibited in The Crow and Dark City.

From all the trailers and stuff it just looks way too bad. Almost reminds me of the Number 23. I couldn't even finish watching it that I disliked it that much.

I'd have to plump for Taxi 2.

For anyone who've not seen it, it's a French movie about a guy with a really fast taxi, who gets caught up with a wierd plot by the Yakuza to kidnapp the French president (as my memory serves me, anyway)

We were treated to it in French class way back in the day, and whilst it's not exactly winning oscars anytime soon, it's funny, and has a massive, massive police car pile up. Seriously, it rivals Blues Brothers in that respect (though I don't think it beats it). It was good enough for me to pick it up on DVD later, and there's not alot of movies we were shown in class that I can say that about.

THE ROOM!!! You haven't lived until you've seen The Room. If you're not familiar, read up about it. Total vanity project gone wrong. Written, directed, and acted by vague mysterious Euro-guy, Tommy Wisseau. It was released as a drama "with the passion of Tennessee Williams," and when it was met with hysterical laughter, the guy totally back-pedaled and said it was a "black comedy." Now it has reached cult status and screens once a month in L.A., complete with rowdy audience. This movie even has a celebrity fan-following. Kristen Bell throws "The Room Parties" at her house. Tim & Eric are also huge fans, and had Wisseau on their show a couple of episodes ago. One of the most unintentionally HILARIOUS movies ever!

You also gotta see the classic GymKata. "The skill of gymnastics. The kill of Karate." Watch as hero, Kurt Thomas, fights bad guys while using objects that mysteriously resemble pummel-horses and gymnastics bars. Totally 80's-tastic, nonsensical martial arts action.

BTW, I also take issue with movies like Evil Dead and Dead-Alive being considered "so bad they're good." They were movies that transcended their low-budget with genuine awesomeness.

Just saw Heat Vision and Jack, and it rocked my world. Of course, being a massive Jack Black fan I am a bit biased.

Still, it comes highly recommended. And again, it's only 30 minutes.
