View Full Version : Xvid and latest mov: bad encoding?

I cannot get the xvid large version to play in either totem-xine or mplayer. The audio works but the video is about 1 frame per second with artifacts remaining from the previous frame.
Also, I cannot get the latest mov version to play in totem-xine or mplayer. The video is completely gray and locks up both players forcing me to kill them. Previous episodes of this format would play.
Is anybody else experiencing these problems? Could this be a problem with the encoding of the videos. Never before have I had xvid files that wouldn't play in either of these players.
PS: I will not install another player such as VLC. Totem and mplayer use completely different backends. The fact that these videos work on neither probably means that there is a problem with the video files.

Hello there
I can also confirm these problems on my gentoo system with totem, mplayer and xine.
I started noticing these problems with some rev3 large .mov releases since diggnation ep75 (also happens with indigital, pixel perfect).
The only player on linux that I got it working with was vlc (different backend I suppose).
If anyone @ rev3 could somehow fix this I'm sure many of us would be thankfull ;)
Cheers
Yuri

I'm glad to hear that it's not just me. There must be a problem with their encoding software if it doesn't work on any of these media players.

I am able to watch both pixelperfect--0011--damen2--large.xvid.avi and pixelperfect--0011--damen2--large.h264.mov with mplayer (1.0rc9). What version of mplayer are you using?

Hello
I'm using MPlayer 1.0rc1-4.1.1 from gentoo portage.
I will try running the latest svn.

Cool. I am quite curious to see if that resolves the issue.

the large .xvid version of ep. 79 won't play at all, and I think other episodes have done the same. I run windows with the latest version (1.1.2-01) of xvid's decoder installed, and neither wmp nor winamp will play diggnation. I'd much rather use an open format than wmv, but that's what I've had to do.
