has anyone heard of this or seen it? i was just looking at upcoming DVD releases, and saw this. apparently a prequel to the new Battlestar Galactica series.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0799862/
"Two families, the Graystones and the Adamas, live together on a peaceful planet known as Caprica, where a startling breakthrough in artificial intelligence brings about unforeseen consequences. A spin-off of the Sci Fi Channel series "Battlestar Galactica" set 50 years prior to the events of that show. "
(by the way, if anyone is using Boxee and having trouble getting their BSG episodes to be recognized, let me know. i got it working :) )

It's sure to be more of a soap opera than BSG was, so no doubt I'll love it!

surprised no one has talked about this yet. The DVD came out a few days ago and I finally got around to watching it tonight.
without any spoilers, all I have to say is that it was amazing. It's pretty much what I was hoping it would be. For me, it was right on par for how awesome BSG is, if not better. I can't wait for it to start up on Sci-fi next year.

I saw it and liked it. Was not a huge BSG fan, though I am going to watch at least the first season and see if I want to continue. My father, who is a HUGE Battlestar fan, loved it and, I quote, said "this is exactly what I wanted," he might have been hyperbolic, but I digress. It was pretty heavy for being a pilot movie though; polytheism vs monotheism, mind uploading, immortality, etc. I hope the show will be good. Official premiere date? I know its sometime in 2010. Spring or Fall?

This was on torrentz long before the street date. Good pilot, you actually realize that not only was Admiral Adamas father a corrupt lawyer but that the inventer of the first CYLON (Cybernetic Living Node) stole it from another corporation.
Over all it was a good story telling of how the events began the long road to the fall of the human race but like BSG before it, it could start off with a Bang then end up dull/soap operish. What will be interesting is the BSG "flashback" made for tv movie that James Olmos is doing that according to rumor is hitting this October/November (no not Caprica. that series has a fall 2010 season date don't ask me why its stupid.)

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the release date was early 2010. If it's fall 2010 I will be very angry

So no one had problems with its logic?

Well I didn't buy into "you can be recreated with only video/audio files”. I think humans are a little bit more complex.
But if you put that aside there were three thing that bothered me.
1. I didn't understand why did the father needed the new chip to transfer his daughter to the robot, if she already exists on the chips he created.
2. Back up? Wouldn’t you make a copy of your daughter if you wore running some new experiment?
3. I know they had to make it believable BUT the first cylon test was too much. So basically they couldn’t do something that anyone with a computer, a web cam and some computer skills can do at home. At one moment we should believe he is super smart but something trivial is giving him trouble. They have figure out hot to make a robot move withou any problems, see the object but the aiming.... well that is complicated.

1. if i remember correctly, he need some chip (brain) to have the robot run correctly.
2. yes, major plot hole... ur a topnotch scientist and u don't have some kind of backup system? that the kind of mistake i made in HS and early college.
3. If u mean his daughter making a digital clone of herself, i think they stressed the point that she was a genius. I wouldn't be surprised if they say she was guided "by the one true God."

took the words right out of my mouth.
I think I might watch it again just because I loved it so much. I wish it would come out this year :(
