KDE mostly now. I use screen constantly so I can switch between my multiple computers without interrupted a task or something. I also love openbox and fluxbox and use them when I feel like it.

I'm usually running my nix distros on pretty old PCs (usually p2/p3s) and just for servers so I'm either using no DE or something lightweight like fluxbox.

for me, Fluxbox has one purpose...to be really, really lightweight...KDE and Gnome are about 400MB each...Fluxbox is about 4-5MB for the whole thing

I use FluxBox no matter how speced out the machine is...

well for my personal preference I would have to say KDE, to me I like the over all feel of it much better then gnome. I would go with fluxbox but the Kubunt/Ubuntu fluxbox is kinda crappy compared to DLS's fluxbox so I guess it just depends on the distro for me. personally if I could right now I would have a windows PC for gaming and run my main box purely on linux.

the DSL and Ubuntu versions of flux are exactly the same...the only added thing DSL's flux has is icons on the desktop and that stats meter in the corner (can't remember the name of it right now, sorry)

hmm didn't know that, I just assumed cause when I tried to get transparency working on kubuntu using fluxbox it didn't work at all the way it should and with DSL its just there. I guess thats where the old saying goes to never assume cause it can make an ass of u or me. :D
any tips on configuring it I wouldn't mind a pm, I like fluxbox it uses the least memory and CPU so would be great. :)

i use gnome because i prefer the menu structure and overall usability. kde is nice and very functional but the menu structure is too long and seems a bit clumsy. fluxbox is just too lightweight for me, if i'm running on an old machine, i'll install it just in case i need a graphical web browser but i would never use it for anything else. fvwm is nice, i just cant quite grasp my fingers around it enough to use it over gnome. enlightenment would be nice if it didn't crash so much. icewm is also very nice for old hardware and its more functional than fluxbox.

I use KDE. Yeah it might be a bit cluttered but I like it that way. Furthermore, it's just so customizable... I've turned my KDE into a sort of KDE/Gnome cross, and I could make it look just like Gnome if I wanted to.

I spend most of my time in e17, a properly setup fvwm (default or crystal don't count as properly set up, and most .fvwmconfig's are just annoying so I roll my own), fluxbox, or e16 (when the first two aren't operational, I flip flop between fluxbox and e16). I also have WindowMaker with GNUStep when in a 32 bit environment, and will use that a lot when working with ObjC.
In either case, I have enough disk space that I pull in KDE and Gnome, I normally set my USE flags to compile stuffs for GTK2 when possible. I like Natilus for file management, Amaraok for audio, and just the general utilities that both entail, and it means that I can occasionally show off w/ compiz (as well as lg3d, croquet, and metisse, all of which are pre-compiz awesome, and I have high hopes for croquet).
I generally hate Desktops (as in icons, integrated file browsers, etc) and opt to just have a rightclick -> program list, and a small dock against one of the edges. I like especially e's (e16 and to a smaller extent e17) widget system (Epplet) and how it's kinda stack up whatever interface you need. E16's draggable virtual desktop thing is also sweet.
Long list eh? I like changing up, part of the fun of linux.

Gnome + Compiz-Fusion. Sometimes if I want something faster, I'll use Xfce.

KDE, but only because I customize the look alot. Most of the time it doesn't even look like KDE.

'E' (16/17) does it all better, but I must admit KDE/Gnome with Compiz-fusion is very nice and reduces resource glut.
I personally would like to see E16 with Compiz-fusion, THAT would be nice.
E17 doesn't need, or use, xgl, and is VERY lightweight, a lot faster and useable than XFCE, IMHO anyway :-)

I find myself testing out linux on a distro basis but I prefer gnome above kde, kde looked too excessive (of course some customizations can fix that ><)
I never even heard of flux box

I haven't seen it mentioned before in this thread, so here it comes: Openbox. With a few parts of KDE. (I actually prefer Konqueror over Firefox for some reason...must be the vi-style browsing capabilities ;) )

I use Gnome with Compiz Fusion on my desktop, Beryl on my laptop. Emerald themes to give the windows OSX styles, and Avant Window Navigator to give me a dock just like in Leopard. I've attached a screenshot. I guess you can say that I love the look of Macs and the functionality of Linux.

I use a combination of them all depending on the situation. low end machines i use icewm or fluxbox. medium machines probably xfce and e??. For higher end machines I use kde(3.5 and 4) and gnome. Kde is out for mswindows now. That might be interesting to try on xp. Time to make a virtual machine........

I was using Avant Windows navigator but I found it slowed down my notebook boot so I turned it off. I like Gnome, I customizes it a little so it only has one bar.
If I ever put Ubuntu on my Desktop I will use AWN

What kind of slowness do you mean? I don't think I've noticed any slowness because of AWN (but I could just be blinded by the way it makes my Linux box look like a Mac ;))

KDE, because I like the look and feel - even on my somewhat older laptop (IBM T20). I have no problem with the menu structure; to me things are grouped logically.
Of course, I can't forget a konsole (terminal window). It's open all the time and is the first app that opens. The best possible combination of user interfaces - command line and GUI.

How'd he make that flaming smiley face in that vid?
KDE on my main machine, with a latest build of KDE4 on a virtual machine. For my recording laptop, I am using UbuntuStudio and gnome. I think it makes a nice brake, but I am KDE fanboy.
Both have Compiz-Fusion on as well as the main Window Manager.
Konsole is lovely, but I prefer Yakuake, always there when I need it, just tap F12 and down it comes :P

Just for future reference, Compiz Fusion isn't a window manager. Emerald is the default window manager when using the Compiz Fusion 3d environment, however you can still use Gnome's default, Metacity, with Compiz Fusion if you don't like the cool looking themes.
And thanks for pointing out yakuake. I just installed it and I love it. Much nicer than constantly having an xterm open and in the way.

I have not tried the latest kde 4. The earliest versions needed to be a bit more robust. I prefer kde3.x, but I gnome, fluxbox, kde, xfce and etc.
