I want to start off by saying that this will be my first Mac purchase. I've been a PC user all of my life. I've never been against Macs, I just never found it necessary to buy one. My laptop isn't going to be my main computer but over the summer I'll be working as a level 2 support tech at a company, so my laptop will be my work computer. I've decided on a Mac laptop because they seem to be of good quality and I feel like it would be useful to learn OS X to better support users who use it. Plus, I can use Bootcamp to run Windows as well. On to my question. I don't quite want to spend the $2k on the new Macbook Pro, but considering my circumstances, would I be better off getting a new unibody Macbook or a refurb, previous generation Macbook Pro. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help!If you are set on an OSX running machine, and can't quite stretch the budget to a new model, then the refurbs are a good deal. If you are attending an educational institution then the educational discounts are pretty good too. Another point to think about is buying off Amazon might save you the sales tax, so thats worth a thought as well.

You can use the edu discounts without any proof - just order online.

Pick a school, order through the schools store and collect your discounted hardware. They will never ask for anything. I've done this for YEARS, I guess I have saved a couple grand this way.

ive heard the same thing dusing said. Just type a school and its cool. I think. Never tried it. But i guess Dusing has;)

I mean, if you can, I would go with the unibody. But im really not a fan of the white plastic macbooks. Thats just me. Its not really any huge differences on the specs i think.

The unibody is lighter, better battery life and the upgraded touch pad. Do it! get the unibody:)
