Sure will miss the Michelob sponsorship, yes Kevin I agree, the Honey Wheat was my fav out of that sampler pack too. Just an FYI, I wasn't really that interested in Michelob until you guys talked it up the way you did, wasn't that keen on wheat beer either, but now, keeping the second fridge stocked with a couple extra sampler packs. I've really enjoyed the beer tasting sessions, learning allot, now I actually have something interesting to say at the bar when it comes to beer :)
The Digg Bar is an awesome idea, I'm liking the Random button too. Cool idea too about being able to type digg.com at the beginning of a URL and being able to digg it that way, just tried it out on Glenn's site.
Incredible site Glenn, great web design too, very well done. dirtsalad.com
When's the tour for the new condo?

There was some good content in this episode. I liked the tangent that was building up right before the sponsers, and then Alex cut it off. Beating a dead horse but, I'll say it once again, must people enjoy the banter and tangents MORE than the actual digg stories!
Also, there was sort of a faux beer presence... but I think kevin being on cold medicine and not being able to pronounce anything helped a bit.
is that dude on the right really the guy responsible for the digg bar? he made it pretty clear he thinks stealing the google juice will happen and stealing google juice is a evil thing, but he still deployed it. that's just not right. he also mentioned that the digg bar benefits digg users. but non-users still get the digg bar. i can see the digg bar being useful for users, but isn't it obvious it's annoying to non users? i truly am shocked that this guy is in charge of these things.

PLEASE don't do that "Coming up on this episode" intro to diggnation. It works on other shows but not diggnation.

Yeah that was a bit weird and kind of threw me off. Nice to see they're trying a few new things, but I'm not sure if I liked that or not.
Also, it was really nice not hearing Kevin's Twhirl sounds constantly. Some of the tangents were funny. More of that, please!

i liked this episode, enjoyed some old school diggnation action, but please, add at least two stories. I miss one hour episodes the most.

Really? The Digg community loves the diggbar? That's not what I'm hearing, in fact I have yet to hear one person say they liked it. Just this morning I was reading someones negative comments about it on a completely unrelated story.

Agreed. I think it was an OK idea, but i really don't think it should have been an opt-out feature, should have been opt-in instead... IMO.

What happened to the mp3 version of the show? I listen to it at work, where I can't really sit down and watch (plus it is two guys on a couch, do you really need video?)

i think this was a great ep! while i do agree with some of the prev threads about the guys being in a funk on some eps, my main "want" is seeing more of the guys "rarely sober". i just think it loosens the guys up alot more. &lends to really great off-topic banter (great recent example: the ep in december @ alex's house where they made that eggnogg was fantastic). the ads & twitter really dont bug me.
on a tangent. its funny that they brought up the tropicana issue because i was a bit curious to know what other consumers thought. when i saw the redesign, i really dug the clean (modern?) look it had (i find product/ad/web design really interesting). i havent read the article, but im sure more than anything else, people were confused or didnt recognize the brand by the packaging. maybe that lead to the drop in sales.
...of course, i almost dropped pepsi products because of their terrible new design. especially the sierra mist products. wtf? lol.
great ep!

It takes 2 seconds to turn it off, right from the digg bar. The numbers don't lie, users are more involved in digging since the bar was added. This latest patch that leaves it off for non-digg users and direct forwards to the proper URL prettymuch gives everyone the best of both worlds.
Also, i've been laughing for like 5 minutes out loud at that tapioca pudding fish.

I just wanna say I love the diggbar for what I use it for. Most people that hate it are people that sit around on the digg homepage; I on the other hand am constantly reading articles off my RSS feeds and whatnot and just click my diggbar bookmarklet to see if it's been dugg, digg it (without even going to digg.com), tweet it, share on facebook, and submit to digg if it's not yet. I've found myself visiting digg.com a lot less though now that the bars been around. I don't really like the random feature, but there's no reason to get rid of it just because I don't like it, I just don't use it.

Weird, I didn't see anything wrong with the original Tropicana design, I thought it was plenty clean. Just an orange with a straw in it and TROPICANA. That's not clean? And I also love the new Pepsi redesign for the cleanliness. I find it weird that you like the cleanliness of the Tropicana design but hate the cleanliness of the new Pepsi designs? The new Sierra Mist is like a billion times cleaner than the old one...

It's interesting to see how the US packaging is also different to other countries, like here in the UK we have the fruit cut in slices (http://designresearchgroup.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/tropicana_uk.jpg), not sure why but the US version feels old fashioned and traditional as a result.

Well, moms are really those most likely to do shopping, and when there are kids in tow, standing there looking for a particular brand might not happen. When one type of packaging is well-known, people can easily spot it and grab it. Change it substantially, and it's easier to overlook. "What's that? No more Tropicana? Okay, I'll grab this other one I'm familiar with." When we shop, it's more likely to be a quick scan for the product we want. And for people without a preference, this new packaging isn't as...inviting.

I really have no opinion on the tropicana design, but I think some of the problem with the new design was that there was hardly any contrast. There was a white carton with very light colors. It sort of blended in. The old/newest design however had a much bolder green for the name and a bolder orange for the orange so it stood out when you glanced over the shelves. You also can't mess with familiarity.
As for the pepsi design, I'm kind of torn. I sort of like the new pepsi logo and can, but hate the rest of the redesigns. Sierra mist looks very cheap compared to the old packaging. Don't even get me started on my beloved MOUNTAIN dew, which, in their infinite wisdom, they renamed to Mtn Dew and gave it a lame new look. Was it really necessary to drop the vowels? I guess the web 2.0 naming conventions made their way to the soft drink industry...

Same thing with Nestle Quik. Nesquik now. It's just a sign of modern laziness, I think.

(Not that they'll read this, buuuut) I'm sorry Kevin. With the way you presented the choice to Alex, I'd have to go with the sex as well. I'm engaged, have a happy relationship, and I know how to keep it... and I'd willingly go to bed for the entire night.
...But don't you think for a MINUTE that while we're cuddling, I won't be thinking about playing the game in the back of my mind. =p

For the second week in a row (maybe more) the crew doesn't actually know what the stories are about. Last week it was the Colbert node (not galaxy), now it's Boxee/Hulu. They have no idea how the framing apps worked and if they removed the in-video adverts.
When the founder of Digg has to ask: "Does anyone use Boxee?", this is a sad event.

Keep doing exactly what you did this week, guys. It was perfect. The perfect amount of laugh out loud moments, with Kevin's speech problems, the Sex or Video Games discussion, the Hippie email, it was all perfect. Best Diggnation in a while! (Not counting the live shows.)

Love it but I have one gripe....too short bring back the longer episodes with a few more stories..

This was a complete shit episode. The stories were old and stale, they didn't know what they were even talking about, the ratio of content to ads was ridiculous, and it just continues to feel like they do Diggnation as a job, and nothing more now.
I'm really on the edge about dropping the show from my weekly podcast list, it's becoming too much of the same old stories, with ads all over the place. C'mon guys, Diggnation used to be so great. If you need a break take one, don't record 3 or 4 episodes at once and expect them to be good. The length and amount of content suffers, as does the quality.
I want Diggnation back, not whatever this is.
