Ok you guys seem like a pretty bright bunch. My PS3 is stuck in NAT type 3 and I've opened the ports and then put it in the DMZ, I set up the connection manually on the PS3 and still no joy. Anyone got any ideas? Networking isn't my strong point so I could very easily be missing something. Anything you guys say will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Eden

Where you able to verify that the DMZ was working?

According to my router and modem everything is working. What I think might be wrong is I have a DHCP connection so I don't have fixed IPs. So will I need to set up a static connection? Because I can't seem to do that. I'm nearly sure my ISP only supports dynamic IPs and DNSs. I've told the DHCP to lease out the IPs indefinately so it shouldn't change but I'm not sure.
Sorry if that comes accross as unreadable. It all made sense in my head as I was typing!:P

In the PS3's configure specify what IP address it should have. Preferably give it an address outside of the DHCP range so there is no chance of two devices having the same address. Then point the DMZ at that address.
My point about verifying that the DMZ is working is that some routers are stupid, and will say it's working when it in fact is not. You can test it by assigning another computer the same address as the PS3 (with the PS3 turned off), open some random ports on the firewall and then use some thing like shieldsup (https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2) to see if it can reach your computer. Remember to change the computers address back after testing.

Make sure that your router is assigning local addresses to the ps3 via dhcp.
Your modem may have to be in bridge mode so that the router is assigned the IP address from the ISP.
