View Full Version : Problem with Podtrac?

I've been having problems downloading the Revision 3 content I subscribe to through iTunes for the past couple of months, specifically Diggnation and TRS. Neither one will download and I get a -4 error in iTunes. I've tried Unsubscribing and Resubscribing with no success.
I can connect and download thru iTunes though when I use Hotspot Shield and I noticed in Activity Monitor on the Mac that Hotspot connects to a different, non-Podtrac, site to download the content (I'm in Singapore). I changed to a static IP around the time the downloads stopped working, so maybe Podtrac has a problem with that?
Any assistance you can give would be much appreciated! Thanks

None of our contents actually reside on podtrac.com. It is just a quick redirect. Can you please do the following:
1. provide a tracroute to bitcast-a.bitgravity.com
2. try downloading this file (http://bitcast-a.bitgravity.com/revision3/web/trs/0108/trs--0108--nubbins--large.lame.mp3) directly from bitgravity?
3. try downloading the file (http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/bitcast-a.bitgravity.com/revision3/web/trs/0108/trs--0108--nubbins--large.lame.mp3) from the podtrac.com redirect
What are the results?
Thanks.

Are you able to access http://www.podtrac.com ? If not, can you please do a nslookup for www.podtrac.com and let me know what IP it returns?
If you're on a Mac, could you also check /etc/hosts to see if you have a static entry for www.podtrac.com?
Thanks.

Podtrac.com does not fully resolve - I see the basic text but not the graphics nor the links for Podcasters etc (I can see all these when I check the site from my work PC but that doesn't help me much!).
Using Lookup on the Mac I get the following IP for Podtrac.com 484 IN A 69.16.232.36
I don't have Podtrac listed in my etc\hosts file on the Mac - there's only a handful of lines in the file, none of which seems to relate to a website.
Thanks again.

Hi there,
same problem here.
I can download media files directly.
It's the redirection in podtrac that is not working.
Hope they resolve this quickly. I'm missing out my podcasts.
Thanks.

We have contacted the fine folks at podtrac.com. I am sure that they will get to the bottom of this very quickly. If they need additional information, would it be okay for them to contact you directly via email (please PM me the best email address to use if you don't mind)?

Click on this link here (http://revision3.com/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=38752). Normally you would click on a user name and there will be a dropdown menu.

It appears the problem is now on bitgravity's end. (specifically bitgravity-a) I was able to connect a couple of hours ago, but my connection got dropped after I only got 7MB of the latest diggnation. I'd love to do a traceroute, but for some assinine reason my ISP blocks all ICMP traffic. I can only ping other people via hamachi (which shows the usual pings, ~100ms from my local to Seattle).
(and yes, I did try a direct download after waiting for half an hour for the podtrac link to work)
edit: I just tried bitgravity-b, and so far so good. Its a little slower than I'm used to (~100k/sec), but atleast it works.
edit 2: Bitgravity b and c servers work for a while, then drop me like a stone after about half an hour. This is really irritating! The speeds kept jumping from around 99k/sec down to the teens. They wouldn't happen to have any hosting down close to the Tunica, MS area would they? (A tornado went pretty close to them at around 3 this morning....)

The problem is not with bitgravity. We're to be blame for this. I am in the process of replacing the files. Basically, we made an error in the final edit and left out a segment of the episode.
You can get more details on the issue on this thread (http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=27996).
Sorry for the inconvenience.
