View Full Version : Optimizing my PC to play HD video through ITunes?

Alright so here is the issue:

I don't download much through ITunes in the way of HD TV Shows or Movies but wouldn't mind doing so. (Lets not get into an ITunes debate here.) So I decided to download the first episode of Dollhouse in HD. (I believe ITunes HD is 720p right?) It goes along great, except for when it goes to some expansive outdoor environments. So I thought alright, this could just be a graphical problem with my computer. (I will include my PC specs below) And it very well may be but there's a catch, and something that doesn't add up to me. I can play any 720p movie trailers from the Apple Trailer website without any sort of issues. Recently i've tested it out by playing the trailer for Wolverine, Harry Potter, The Soloist, UP, and Angles & Demons. All of them played fine without any hiccups, unlike when I played an Episode of Dollhouse through ITunes.

So does anyone have any insight as to what could be wrong? Are there steps I should take to optimize my PC to play this content through ITunes? Or is it my graphical prowess that is lacking in my computer and for some reason it runs Trailers fine but not HD shows?

Appreciate any help and thank you in advance! Computer specs are below.

Vista Home Edition (64 Bit)
AMD Phenom 8400 (2.1 Ghz x3)
4 GB of Memory
GeForce 8200

If you need anything else... please just ask! Thanks!

Can someone tell what kind of shirt Patrick is wearing on this week's Tekzilla? It's got double pockets and a half zipper.

Silica: to make a new forum post, click the NEW POST button when you're in a forum, not in an existing post.

Redavi: I suspect that they might be using a different encoding for the Dollhouse eps than they do for the trailers. You should make sure you have the latest versions of Quicktime and iTunes. Maybe update your graphics drivers too.

Don't use iTunes!

Free yourself from the Apple corporate brainwashing that it is the only (or even best) media player out there.
