Pre-roll ad before Flash video of shows

I understand why you have the pre-roll ads before the Flash videos...everyone's gotta make money. That's not what I'm here to complain about. (...although I still think they're the second most annoying ads online, right behind pop-ups. Both make me less likely to return to a site.)

However, there are two issues I have with these ads which need to be fixed soon:

1) No volume control. If we can't fast forward, that's fine...but at least let us be able to adjust the volume so that it's not making me yank my earbuds out. Volume, that's all I ask.

2) The Rev3 show that follows the ad starts playing a few seconds before the ad ends. Stop that.

If it helps debug #2, this is currently happening for me in Firefox on my work PC running XP.

I'm not a fan of pre-rolls and apparently Jim promised a while ago, he wouldn't do them, but oh well, I can leave with that.

Why don't you just make them part of the show, so we could adjust the volume and there'd be no delay.

yea I started a thread about this as soon as it happen

but yea it is a problem when I navigate to the page to download an episode I am watching something on my computer like some other Rev3 show and I have to do some fast mouse moves to get the download started before the show I am watching gets interrupted and I have to pause it - also randomly if I navigate away from the page to fast sometimes the episode gets truncated

but really they have to make money so its OK as long as this is something that will really help Rev3 make money to bring us great shows for FREE IN HD!


someone should make a firefox extension (not flash block that will block the view, blocking the ad revenue) that will mute the audio but leave the video playing so they get the view - it will also be a longer view from people like me who try to get away from the page as fast as possible as to not to get interrupted by the sound

so if you are listening Rev3 its OK with me I would like to see it muteable - I know that is not what the sponsors want, we have to here it as well as see it - but they cant tell if they audio is on or not (I hope not) so it shouldnt matter


oh yea, and the show starts automatically - this is not cool - it did this before the pre-rolls ads were there, I never liked it and it should be stopped - it has to have a problem with bandwith useage for no reason

For me they starting playing the same time, probably my Internet speed means it doesn't takes long enough to load so the show is playing only a few seconds after the advert starts.

This problem will be addressed with the next code release. I am really looking forward to it. I think you all will be very very very happy with what @rylab and @marilee are going to implement.. I know I will be.
