I've been having trouble with time machine. When it was working it just kept running and my imac froze. Now my imac won't recognize my external harddrive. Its an iomega 750gig connected with firewire800. Any suggestions?

Plug the drive in and check the power lights on it. Are they lit? If they light up, does the drive appear on the desktop like normal?
Open Disk Utility and see if the drive appears there. If it does, you can try reformatting it. (That will delete everything on it.) If the drive doesn't appear in Disk Utility, something might be wrong with it physically.
Try swapping the firewire and power cables with known good ones, if you can. Also try it with another computer, again if you can. You can also try contacting the manufacturer and see if the drive is still under warranty.
