So I’m a bit bored today and I find myself flicking through comic related web sites just for something to do and I found mycomicshop.com. It’s just like most comic sites but with one cool (well I thought so but then I am bored), you can click on a year and month and see what comics were released then. I choose September 1996 cause I knew that I was reading a bunch of comics at that stage and I seemed to remember the books being a bit rubbish at that time, this may come down to how much people rip apart comics in the 90’s. While some books I bought at the time I wouldn’t touch with a stick now a lot of them where great. Anyway here’s what I picked up:
DC
Aztek 2, Azreal 21, Aquaman 24, Batman Black and White 2, Essential Vertigo Sandman 2, Impulse 17, Hellblazer 105, Hitman 5, Justice League a midsummers nightmare 1, Legion of Superheros 84, Legionaries 40, Flash 117, Flex Mentallo 4, Preacher 17, Preacher saint of Killers 2, Starman 22, Supergirl 1, Swampthing 170, Terminal City 3,
Marvel
GenerationX 19, Incredible Hulk 445, Fantastic Four 416, Cable 35, Avengers 402, Excalibur 101, Elektra Lives again GN, Deathblow Wolverine 1, Iron Man 332, Thor 502, X-Force 58, X-Factor 126, Wolverine 105, Uncanny X-men 336, X-men unlimited 12, X-men 56, X-man 19
Other,
Supreme 42, Lethargic Lad 3, Stormwatch 39, Savage Dragon 31, Whoa Nellie 3, Monkeyman and O’Brien 3, Nexus: Executioner’s song 4, Leave it to Chance 1, Curse of Spawn 1, Body bags 1, Astro City 1
That’s 47 books... I have no idea how I afforded so many books as I was still in school at the time. Looking at it I realise I fell for the whole onslaught thing big time but that I was also starting to follow books for the creators (Leave it to Chance 1 and Supreme 42). I’m also surprised to see how many of these books I would love to see collected, impulse (all of waids run), Aquaman (ditto with Peter David), GenX..
Highlights of the month:
Supreme 42: Alan Moore begins one of his best works. The first issue may be my favourite comic of all time.
Deathblow/Wolverine: I don’t remember the story at all but the art was just beautiful.
Savage Dragon 31: “Don’t F*** with God”
Justice League a midsummer’s night dream: The lead in to Morrison’s JLA
