As the subject says, I'm looking for a good microphone to do podcasts/YouTube videos with (as in directly in front of my computer).
So, 1) Does Tekzilla have an episode on this? 2) What would you recommend? 3) Is the microphone in my Macbook Pro already efficient enough?
I'm looking for something I can directly connect to my MBP and won't set me back any more then $80. I know there are a lot of aspiring podcasters on the forum, so please feel free to tell.

My fave techwriter put up this overview (http://www.suntimes.com/business/1545380,ihnatko-podcasts-audio-recording-042609.article) a few days ago.

I've heard good things about Blue microphones. I almost got their Snowball mic.

Yeah, andy is a huge fan of the new portable snowball with the quality popout camera for when necessary.

Those mics are a bit too hardcore for me. I just need a nice mic with good sound quality that I can set on my desktop. I don't need a mobile mic. Thanks for the link, though!

Really?!? A snowball mic sounded prefect for what you were talking about (it's what it was built for) It's only $20 bux more than the $80 you said brand new from apple and you can find them for ~$60 used... if not try the snowflake, it think it's cheaper.

If you are semi-serious, the minimum is a Shure SM57 or a SM58. They are under $100, and are used everywhere.

I have the original BLUE Snowball mic. LOVE IT! it's well built, sounds like a million bucks and works flawlessly every time. Great product, Highly, Highly recommended.

Yeah, but aren't they analog, XLR terminated mics? I'd also recomend the Blue mics as a starting place. The Snowflake (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/525051-REG/Blue_SNOWFLAKE_Snowflake_Compact_USB_Microphone.ht ml) is a bit cheaper than the Snowball. There are also some cheap USB condenser mics out there - though I haven't used them.
Condensers are great for male voices because they tend to over-emphasize the lower vocal ranges when the mic is positioned close to the speaker - and close is within 6 feet. If you are doing voice-over work, or are looking for some extra support for your voice, there are worse ways to go.
