Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds #4- We have the partial return of Bart (Brainiac explains that) Allen, and the return of a another hero. And the reveal of who the Time Trapper is. The best issue of the series so far! Polar Boy's fight with Prime great, not in the epic way, but in the way, with no chance of beating him, still fights on, type of way.
Justice Society of America #26- Perfect way to say goodbye, especially after all the epic, heavy stuff going on. Loved this story, just a simple fun story showing the other side of the JSA. I'm going to miss Johns and Eaglesham. Bring on Willingham and Sturges though!

MADAME XANDU and that RESURRECTION trade are all I have. I'll browse the racks later when I'm there but I think that's it as far as new stuff goes. :[

Geoff Johns wins comics this week and his highest profile book isn't even out.
I'm going to keep this issue of JSA under my pillow and refer to it whenever I'm feeling down. So much love in this book.
Phonogram blew me away again, I can't imagine anything beating it out as POTW, but JSA sounds like it might have a chance

I dropped JSA, but does this issue mark the return of Conner Kent? If so, I may need to buy this on Saturday when I return to the store.

I dropped JSA, but does this issue mark the return of Conner Kent? If so, I may need to buy this on Saturday when I return to the store.
It happened in Legion of 3 Worlds.
But seriously, pick up JSA. It's Johns' last issue and it's not part of the previous arc. And Ordway never touched it.
Paul's right, JSA was fantastic.
So JSA is a stand alone send off? I'm down for buying it if it's a no strings attached sort of thing.
I did read something interesting tonight. Did anyone else pick up Warlord of Io from Slave Labor? I picked it up on a whim, and it was just fantastic indy comics. It featured a main story with smaller back up stories. Each carried their own distinctive look and story line. I guess I just liked it because it was so different from everything else, and it's always great to see creators doing creative things with comics. If you have it at your shop, I definitely recommend it.

Consider it a JSA special. No strings attached. Great Starman moments (among many, many other high points). But if you don't like zany Starman, you don't have a pulse.

After the second read, it totally rocked my socks. I loved this issue too. POTW.
Ult. Wolverine Vs. Hulk was runner up. Tons of fun and funny, even though TNC promised me a fight...lying bastard :P
Green Lantern is really disappointing. I'm just not digging this arc. Tan's storytelling ability is severally lacking in this arc. I'm just waiting around for Blackest Night to start now.

I was going with Flash Rebirth, but it's one of the two.
I'm going to pick up JSA when I go to the shop on Saturday for FCBD. I hope there's still some copies left.

After reading the latest Thunderbolts issue, I'm pretty glad Andy Diggle didn't get his hands on Deadpool. I mean he wrote some pretty funny scenes, but Daniel Way seems to have all aspects of his charter further down pact, including his rare serious side.
This was a fun crossover, though. I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but Way is a fantastic writer, and I hope he takes Deadpool to further heights!

Ah, right. But GL is the big one. Its the book everyone is watching & waiting for vis-a-vis the book everyone is curious about. IMO.

I got JSA based on Conor's pick. Really sweet/fun book. I doubt I'll go back and catch up on the whole series, but this touched on what I have liked about Johns' run, including the interplay between the generations.
Also, for about 10 years, I convinced myself I didnt' like ice cream. This wasn't TRUE but it kept me from eating too much of it. (This is relevant if you've read the issue).
I don't think I really had a pick this week. I read several books and had fun with them all -- Dark Avengers, Dark Reign Cabal, Uncanny XMen, Phonogram, and JSA -- but none stood head and shoulders above (or below) the others.

the 184 page, 6 buck RESURRECTION: INSURGENT EDITION from Oni Press was simply wonderful and if you didn't get it you are missing out :< Can't wait for the start of the second book in June.
Also picked up In My Lifetime (http://www.terminalpress.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/32/s/in-my-lifetime-encore-edition/category/5/), a collection of autobiographical stories by Tony Fleecs. I was surprised by just how fricking hilarious it was. Very good.
the opening arc of madame Xanadu ended alright, but it wasnt as good as it usually is. I hope Hadley leaving doesnt make me not enjoy the book as much.

So, this week, lots of books, had to have my shop reserve a few, so I could get them later.
UNKOWN SOLDIER #7: Fantastic, probably my favorite issue of the series so far. It seems to have got its legs, and is now done with the origin. Definatly one of the best new series' this year.
PHONOGRAM:THE SINGLES CLUB #2: Also, just incredible. The writing as well as the art blew me the fuck away, and it did have the whole somewhat cleche "different perspective" thing at the end, but it was so well done, it got me a tad weepy. Also, biggest laugh of the week was in the issue notes, when an insedent of McKelvie rediculing a girl with a closer shirt on, and demanding her to name a track. :)
SUPERMAN #687:Good. Not earth shattering like the other two, but still solid and left me wanting more. The whole superman world has been consistantly very good as of late.
GREEN LANTER #4O:Again, good. Not quite as good as I hoped, but still pretty solid. The art just wasn't as good as it was for the last couple of arcs.
DARK AVENGERS #4:Big steaming pile of meh. A lot of the mystical stuff going on it both avengers books right now has me looking at my watch. Liking NA a lot more than this at this point.
THE TANKIES #1:A tad of a let down. Still, a really good book, but I think because of all of the characters, the plot didn't take off in this book the way the other two battlefields titles did in their first issue. Still, looking forward to the next issue.
LEGION OF THREE WORLDS #4 (POW):YES!!! This book is pure, glistning, beautiful DC porn. And I am eating it up with a spoon. The art is beautiful, the charicterisations are perfect, the plot is fantasticly fast paced, and the end reveal was nuts, and terrifying.
I finished GL, Tankies, and Nova yesterday. All of them were fun, but none of them were mind blowing. Solid reads for a solid week. I still need to read Phonogram, which I'm hoping will melt my mind with awesomeness.

Green Lantern #40 - Very fun issue filled with lots of Orange Lantern goodness. Very interesting and creepy to see how the Orange Lanterns add numbers to their ranks, and again poor Hal Jordan is having difficulties with both his rings. Maybe he'll get lucky and pass the blue ring off to Larfleeze!
Dark Avengers #4 - Well at least the Morgan Le Fay stuff is over with. Remind me NOT to screw with both Doom and Osborn at the same time! Now, onwards and upwards with new and exciting adventures! And please, no more delay with a crummy Sentry story next issue.
Justice Society of America #26 - Alas, it's sad to Geoff Johns leave this wonder title, but at least he left on a high note. And as much as I'd like to see Courtney without braces as much as the next guy, I thought it was a nice touch to leave them on. I'll give Buckingham and Willingham a shot and see if I still like it. I was mainly in it for Johns' stories and Ross' cover art.
Dark Reign: Cabal - The only story I really liked out of the five was Doctor Doom's story by Hickman. It was awesome to see him in the Hood's cloak, and both Emma and Loki as his slaves. Him and Namor sure make a dangerous team! The other stories were really 'meh' and uninteresting in my opinion. Nice cover art by Acuna though!
Superman #687 - I liked the villain they were battling against in the begining, but didn't care for the rest of the issue. Mon-El and The Guardian are just very uninteresting characters to me, that I hope Superman returns to his own title as soon as possible and rescue me from this bland series.
Uncanny X-Men #509 - It's official; I can't stand this title anymore. Issue after issue of Land's art is just unbearable to look at. Everyone looks the same, and it's like looking at a porn magazine with all the obvious poses swiped from actual magazines. Get a new artist on this book ASAP Marvel!
Final Crisis: Legion Of 3 Worlds #4 - Hahaha hurray! Final Crisis is almost over! But seriously, I loved this issue, and I could care less about the Legion! That's how good it is. Johns on story and the amazing George Perez on art makes this issue such an action-packed eye-candy of a read. One more issue left, then I can officially do the Final Crisis vs Secret Invasion episode I've been meaning to do.
Battle For The Cowl: The Underground #1 - Cool issue because we get to see a little bit more of the Penguin vs Two-Face beef. Riddler keeps running into old friends, and poor Catwoman can't seem to catch a break. This crossover is well worth your money, and doesn't stray from the main event.
Nova #24 - What a killer issue. You have Nova kicking Shi'ar ass, then to get their asses handed to them by Gladiator and the Shi'ar Imperial Guard!!! Wild stuff, and my prediction anout Robbie Rider is coming closer and closer to coming true. As for Quasar vs Ego next issue? Sign me up! Good War Of Kings crossover!
Battlefields: Tankies #1 - Interesting first issue. Ennis this time around introduces us to a squad of tanks, and how their armor is no match for the Germans tanks firepower! Didn't hook me quite yet, but there still are two issue to go. Definitely keep your eye out for this series.
Ultimate Wolverine Vs Hulk #5 - I love LOST, but please, keep the constant flash-forwards and flash-backs out of my comics! It made the story hard to follow at times. And at least She-Hulk's reputation of being a little-bit of a slut remains true in the Ultimate Universe.
Literals #1 - This was almost picked as a Fast Five. It was entertaining to see Kevin summon the different genres to help him create his new universe, and also to see Snow as being a dangerous driver. And what about Bigby? Can he transform into a Weremonkey now? Can't wait to see what happens next!
RASL #4 - I love Jeff Smith's art, but if it takes him this long on this series, then I'll kindly pass thanks. Wake me when the complete collected edition comes out, and I'll pick it up then. I can barely recall what happened last issue, let alone three issues ago.
Sherlock Homes #1 - Now here's something new and different! I found this issue to be a delightful surprise in a sea of capes. I was excited by the end of the issue, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I've got really high hopes for this series, and hope it can remain a strong contender in the months to come.
GI Joe: Origins #3 - 'Meh'. I'm enjoying the main and Cobra titles more.
Runaways #9 - This series should have stopped when BKV did. This issue was ridiculous, even by kid standards. Can the next creative team please step-up to the plate to keep me from crying? What did this title ever do to you to get this sort of treatment, Marvel?!
Teen Titans #70 - DC needs to get their shit together and stop using Jericho in every other Titans / Teen Titans arc. HE'S NOT COOL! He's goddamn annoying as hell!
Ms Marvel #38 - While I don't know much about Moonstone (apart that she has a gorgeous ass according to Marvel Boy in Dark Avengers #4), I know that I miss Reed writing Carol Danvers in this title. I'm sorry Marvel, but the Dark Avengers should stick to their own title, and stop bleeding into everyone's old solo books.
Avengers / Invaders #10 - Whenever I read this book, it feels like I'm trapped in time, and never moving forward. Remember when this series started? Iron Man was leading the Mighty Avengers and Secret Invasion was about to start. It's been coming out a snails-pace after said snail hit the bars, and is having a hard time getting home. I can see Marvel throwing-up the Mission Accomplished! banner when issue 12 finally comes out.
Astounding Wolf-Man #15 - He's had 3 chances to get out of prison, and yet he's still there. He needs a solid plan if he plans on finding his daughter. But as usual, in Kirkman we trust.
Proof #19 - I have to admit, I haven't read Proof in a while, so when I jumped into this issue I was easily confused on what was happening. I need to catch the last trade and hopefully things will make more sense.
Wonder Woman #31 - Just one more issue left, and we can move on to a brand new arc!
Phonogram: The Singles Club #2 - I don't know jack-shit about hipster Brit-pop music, so this entire issue went over my head. Go ahead and make fun of me because I don't "get it", I'll be over here enjoying my Daft Punk Alive! album followed by The Clash London Calling album.
Superman / Batman #59 - This issue unfortunately hurt my head. I had high hopes when this arc began, but a lot of the dialogue went through one ear and out the other and I had a hard time figuring out what was happening.
War Machine #5 - This title has been pretty mediore since issue one. But then again, I always saw War Machine as a more badass Cyborg.
Muppet Show #2 - If you loved the show, you'll enjoy this book I think. I was always a fan of Fozzie's lame jokes (explains my taste in humor), and had a fun time with this issue.
X-Men Origins Wolverine #1 - This is aimed at those people who just saw the movie this weekend, and need to sink their claws into a Wolverine title. It's the same origin story we've seen a thousand times, so save your money.
Conan The Cimmerian #10 - I enjoyed seeing Conan in his new position of power, and new armor that comes with it. This arc has been tons of fun, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good and bloody barbarian tale. Dark Horse serves you up right.
Fringe #4 - I'm in love with the television show (totally fills in the hole that X-Files left), and this comic is on par with the entertainment factor. A must-buy when it comes out in trade!
Thunderbolts #131 - While it had it's moments, this final issue of the crossover was a bit of a let-down. Lets just have Daniel Way writing it in the future from now on, okay?
Just finished Phonogram. It was outstanding! I thought the interplay between the two characters reminded me a lot of the types of internal conversations you have with yourself when you ruminate about an old flame. The art and coloring was great. Also, the back matter was top notch. This was just a great, great issue. I can't wait for the next one.

Seeing as the only band really featured in this issue is Cansei De Ser Sexy (from Brazil), and even then all you need to know is "this song reminds him of his ex", I don't think your lack of knowledge about hipster Brit-pop would stop you "getting it".

Holy shit, Jamie McKelvie just responded to my post!!!!
Also, they have a whole section in the back of Phonogram explaining all references.
For everyone who cares to read this, when it comes out, I highly recommend that everyone picks up the first unknown soldier trade. It is really quite stupendous.

Fashionably Late
Green Lantern #40: I think Larfleeze is my new favorite villain. Geoff Johns has written a perfect character and I love all the aspects of the Orange Corps. Rest of the issue? Boring as hell. Better art by Tan though
JSA #26: (PICK OF THE WEEK) Fantastic end to a fantastic run by Johns and Eaglesham. Some of the best Starman stuff in a book; and more importantly some really heartwarming moments. That scene in the dentist office makes everyone look crazy though. Still I am going to miss Geoff Johns and Eaglesham on this title.
Nova #24: I am really debating whether to drop this title or not. Let me be clear that this isnt a bad issue or series recently....it's just that I have gotten bored with all the prediciments in this series. Ever since Worldmind has become his own man again it's gotten boring to read. I hope this WoK tie-in ends with Rider/Worldmind back as one whole...if not, I am definitely dropping this.
Thunderbolts #131: People have been giving shit to this issue all week, probably labeling it as the worst comic of the week. I cant see why that is cause honestly; this was pretty good. It isnt terrible, nor is it perfect....it was good. I had some good laughs and I like Dazo's art for the most part. Certainly I wouldnt want Diggle/Dazo as the new creative team on Deadpool as of this moment. But if those two ever did like a mini or one-shot on Wilson....I'll give it a shot.
Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk #5: Okay so the title is false advertisement! But I dont care! Lindelof has certainly proved to be a good comic book writer as I love all of his techniques to tell this story. It's funny, it's action packed, and has some of the best art in a Marvel book. Maybe dont pick this up in issues; but certainly everyone should give this a try when it's in trade.
I have heard so many good things about this book, I will most likely grab the trade.
I thought the book was really good, but I had to thin out my weekly pulls and because it was newer I had to drop it. The praise it gets is very deserving though. This is definitely a great Vertigo book to get in trades.

Green Lantern is really disappointing. I'm just not digging this arc. Tan's storytelling ability is severally lacking in this arc. I'm just waiting around for Blackest Night to start now.
Well, I disagree on the quality of the arc, I enjoy the selfish, hoarding nature of Larfleeze. But I couldn't agree with you more on Phillip Tan's art. In a static sense, just looking at the images, it's actually very pretty, but he can't "story tell" for crap right now. I hope it's a skill he learns to be better at, because I could see him being a pretty impressive artist, but for right now I find myself constantly rereading panels because I just can't tell what's going on.
Last night, I read JSA and Madman, which I bought at my store during FCBD. JSA was really, really fantastic. Probably one of my favorite single issues in a long time. I also really enjoyed Madman. It was the first issue I've ever read, and the story was really, really fun and the art was simply gorgeous.
