ArsTechnica need to read their own analysis (http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/04/apple-holds-the-line-on-mac-and-ipod-sales-grows-via-iphone.ars).
Mac sales dropped 3% compared to overall PC sales dropping 6.5% ... ouch, but to be expected.

Apple is under no pressure to bring in a low cost computer or to drop prices to pander to the masses.

The earnings per share 1Q08 vs 1Q09 is UP.
Margins on sales are UP.

So, as a share holder, I am pretty damn happy with performance. If they can reduce the cost to produce a Mac and sell it at the same price, then I dont care if they have dropped 3% in sales, because they have shown fiscal maturity, anticipated the change, and made sure that shareholder value was maintained.

I don't think they need to lower prices - sales are still growing at an alarming rate year over year. There is no need to compete at walmart. I think it is a different story on the iphone where the key is to get it into as many hands as possible - thus taking over the world.

Yeah, but given tough economic times, people are looking for cheaper solutions which means less people buying Macs.

i actually dont want the apple computers to go down that much in price. I know, many disagree in that Apple should make their macs more for most people. But the more people get the macs, the more attractive its gonna be for the hackers.

Altough most hackers use Linux, where as Apple uses tools of Unix, hacking on a mac would be like chopping of the tree your sitting in. But the more people who gets a mac, the more push its going to be on making viruses against OS X. Thats why Apple hired a super virus geek (cant remember his name. The guy who did the security on "one laptop per chield" thing) so they can meet the problem ahead.

Fuck it, let Microsoft have the lead. I dont care. I understand that they may wanto lower the prices so people dont get to pist, but I like Apple as more of a "small" group in the computer world.
