Insulting the community at Rev3

Haven't heard them for myself but would appreciate if someone posted any links to JV insulting us. Apparently he called us ****ots, dicks and other stuff? JV should clarify for us so we aren't confused.

As for this show...Well I didn't think it was all the great, mostly because the whole argument against MTV and Cribs is irrelevant (who watches MTV?). Rev3 has every right to expand but remember this is a network full of interactivity with fans and insulting the community ain't cool.

From what little I heard before turning it off, he did indeed call those people that did not like his show those names. He went on a diatribe that was racist, sexist, and anti-gay. What he said to the revision 3 community was not only inflammatory but just plain insulting.

I expect an apology from him, and Revision 3. Because he does indeed now represent Revision 3, and the video retort was also tweeted out on the revision3 twitter account. There's no call for this kind of thing. Disagreement is one thing. Resorting to childish actions such as this, was uncalled for.

Look the fact of the matter is this. The guy personally attacked the community and used offensive and hateful language that the majority took offense to.

If JV and Revision3 comes out and apologizes I'll respect that. I would prefer that to happen as I would like to see JV interact with the community.

I don't wish harm on anyone and I don't want JV to fail. I just want to be very clear in saying what he said tonight simply wasn't acceptable. When hateful language like that is used I can't and wont' carry on like it's no big deal. This is the year 2009. We have a black man as president. There may have been a time where this sort of thing wasn't a big deal, but that's no the case now. People don't stand for this sort of thing anymore. But if he's a man and comes forward and apologizes I'll respect that. I think everyone will. From there he can INTERACT with the community and work towards making show improvements.

I'm sure if I were to make a podcast I would probably get lots of negative feedback at first too. But I would interact with the community, and use their suggestions to improve my show. That's what JV needs to do, but this certainly needs to be addressed first.

I'm just disappointed. This was a flaming train wreck of an opener. I don't see how the old rev3 crowd is going to support this show now. I think the damage is already done, and the situation is beyond all remote chances of repair.

But who knows, maybe he has more fans than all the other rev3 shows put together. They most likely will have to carry this show. I guess we will find out how many online fans he has, shortly.

This is true, for instance I don't watch xlr8r or trs, nothing against the shows, they just don't get with me as well as others. I think the issue here is that the content that JVs World features is radically different from that of any other revision 3 show. Patrick Norton saying "f*ck" on the first episode of Tekzilla got a lot of forum buzz.

Personally I don't care for this show or anyone that likes to rant in the way that he does, I understand that some find it entertaining but I do not understand why they do.

I too see why some people would get mad. It seemed to me that his comments were directed toward those who attacked him (not just giving feedback). I'm sure he would appreciate solid feedback, but a lot of the posts were attacking him and he is. Not very constructive. So, he did what he does best, put those on blast the best way he could. I thought his comments about the "tech" culture was pretty funny .

I think some of what he said in that audio clip was too much for those just getting to know him. A lot of rev3 viewers used his first show, this forum, and what they heard on that audio as his interview, and that isn't fair. In all those posts, there were some solid comments about how to make ths show better...but those were very limited. I don't think this is how he envisioned his first day on revision3.

I've listen to him for a long time, met him a few times, and I guess I want everyone just getting to know JV is ...he is honestly a good guy. He is the furthest thing from a racist or bigot. He has a morning show in the BAY AREA!!! One of the biggest Hip hop stations in the country. A racist on wild 94.9??? That wouldn't work...no matter how much a person tried to hide it...Because if you didn't know, the bay area doesn't play that.

I'm guessing this wasn't his plan to connect with the loyal rev3 visitor. I would have defiantly waited a few weeks before I joked around like that. It’s an interesting dynamic. JV and the current Rev3 community... they both probably don't think they need each other, but both could benefit from co-existing. Rev3 needs more visitors; JV needs more outlets for his work. I really hope it works out, and I hope you all give it a few more episodes. I hope you get a chance to dialogue with him, and I hope he is open to all of your constructive feedback

Well...there is nothing else to say beyond that. If revision3 wants someone like that representing them and on their front page...that is their choice. All those who say "with revision3, you can vote with your eyes" are right, I know I will be walking right out of this place if that is what revision3 supports....Mindless, inconsiderate attacks and stereotypes from an arrogant radio jockey. Luckily...I doubt revision3 will side with Mr. JV and this will be dealt with.

If you think insulting your audience is the way to go then he seems to be doing well, bottom line is we watch the shows they get money from advertisers because we use the promo codes and click ads ect. and the sponsors know we watch because they get business, you will see many a show that has failed in the old shows sections that were 100x better than his show so who needing who is kinda a moot point.

I think you can joke with an audience. Poke fun...not everyone in the audience will get it, but many will. I think this show will get better. I’ve looked around rev3, rev3 beta, and some of the old shows. I haven't seen anything amazing, but maybe that’s my taste. I will keep looking, but I will mostly comeback to check out what JV is doing. The new audience JV brings to this site will click ads, sponsors might change too. Sponsors that fit JVs solid audience. As far as who needs who, I was just making a point that JV has a huge morning show following, and no doubt rev3 can use more visitors. Rev3 appears to be an established forum for internet programming, so JVs work could have a solid foundation to grow from.

Would you mind linking me to a show that you think was 100x better? Please don't send me Bottles Blends Brews, someone told me to check that one out and I was pretty disappointed.

I wasn't impressed with episode 1. It needs work, but I'm sure the production value of this show will improve over time. It is simply too early to call right now.

You know, this is exactly what I was thinking. That episode of Diggnation had a massive backlash against Gary Vayernchuk, but Gary is a classy guy. He didn't go on the internet and start insulting, demeaning and disrespecting those who spoke out against him. No, Gary understands "new media" and interacted with the community, part of what makes Rev3 so great, and accepted responsibility for acting over-the-top and rubbing people the wrong way and apologized, personally to nearly everyone who said they disliked what he did.

Well I personally was all about "live and let live" on the guy's show at first. I did not think it was right for this network, but I wasn't about to say that it should be drawn and quartered.

His retorts last night was a huge opportunity for him to garner respect. He could have done witty banter and put us all in our place. A comedian handling hecklers. That would have at least made me respect the guy if not the view.

But he toppled the tower. He failed miserably when he started using slurs and hate speech. He pulled a Michael Richards instead of a George Carlin. Unacceptable in my opinion.

Look, the show I didn't like. But that was not enough for me to wish it be condemned. Everyone has their own views and likes. It just wasn't to my taste. However, if you are in the media business and facing a new market, you MUST have a thick skin. I just don't think this guy reacted anything like he should have. It just astounds me that a professional could act this way.

So do I hate JV? No, of course not. He has the right to say anything he wishes to say. He just has to understand that with that power and freedom, comes responsibility. You can say what you want to. This was a production of his and some people here were so intolerant that they called it the worst podcast, demanded his show be taken off the air and asked for the head of the CEO!!!!

Alright, first of all I watched the show and I thought it was ok. Not amazing, but ok.

Then, I did nothing. I didn't go to the forums and post about what I thought, didn't get caught up in drama, watched fullmetal and went to bed.

Today I get a tweet about shwood's live show and go to check it out, and am linked to a 40 minute diatribe about revision3 fans and their mothers (among other things).

Now if he wants to fight back against negative things said against him, fine. If he wants to be ignorant and homophobic I can't stop him. However when he attacks my sexuality for no reason other than I'm a fan of the site whose members didn't like him all that much, then he's crossed the line. He wasn't insulting those on the forums, he was insulting the entire rev3 fanbase, myself included.

I agree with a number of people (phatlip, I'm looking at you), who believe that rev3 should at least come close to saying "You can't call our fans who didn't even attack you f**s". I know Jay is going through shit, and people are busy, and I don't expect a response right away, or even in the next couple days.

At the end of the day, I want to know that rev3 has my back as a loyal fan. I watch almost every show almost every week, and my netflix, gamefly and godaddy always use rev3 codes.

I think shwood did a good job trying to avoid a flame war, and I don't want a lot of drama. Just a simple statement that rev3 realizes it has a lot of fans who aren't cool with homophobia, and that they aren't cool with it either. Something along the lines of "Revision3 does not condone gay-bashing" would be totally sufficient for me.

Anyway, just my two cents.
